Charles, I have a PDF file of the Wellington T. Ashbridge book that you mention above and there is a brief reference in the intro, to my Ashbridge family living in East Palestine, Ohio. Are you familiar with the Ashbridge families of East Palestine? Do you know if they connect to the families of Chester Co. or Philadelphia, PA. I will gladly share my information & photos with anyone interested in the Ashbridges of East Palestine, Ohio.

Hello All,

I am confused about the wife of Timothy Ellwood b1770 Caldbeck who is either Margaret or Elizabeth Ashbridge, or maybe he married both!!

I have Timothy Ellwood mar Elizabeth Ashbridge 30/07/1803 Caldbeck, baptism Elizabeth 6/7/1776 Caldbeck. Did she die 1805??

I have Margaret Ashbridge born 1781 Hesket Newmarket Caldbeck, died 4/5/1815 Hesket Newmarket Caldbeck.

Children of Timothy are: John b1807, Thomas b1808 & Robert b1810 all Caldbeck. I have never been able to find all their baptisms except:

John Ellwood bap 9/6/1807 son Timothy & Margaret
Robert bap 21/7/1810 son Timothy & Margaret

Are Elizabeth and Margaret the same person?

There is a will of John Ashbridge, uncle to Thomas Ellwood (son of Timothy) linking the two families. I was told that John was the brother of Margaret but I have no further details about this.

Is anyone researching Margaret/Elizabeth Ashbridge?

Best regards,

Gillian
Another Mary Ashbridge of PA but farther back. Mary Ashbridge B: 1766, dau of Jonathan B: 1734, (Quakers) and Sarah James (Willistown Twp, Chester Co, PA) Ashbridge, married William Mc Clure, had son James, who married Delilah Barton. Mary married second, Parker MILLS, son of John and Rebecca SMITH MILLS. They are listed on the SMITH.ged as from Sussex Co, NJ when he applied to the government for relief for land in 1792/93. He was a loyalist, did not support colonists and the new country before war of 1812.
On gencircles.com Kathy Winfield has info that Parker and Mary Ashbridge MILLS and her son, James McClure, with her mother and her children, went to Ontario, Canada. Does this help anyone?
She married William McClure, and with him had a child, James, who married Delilah Barton, had at least 14 children.
Does the book show any information about Mary Ashbridge's second husband, Parker MILLS? and their family. Who his parents/grandparents might have been? Thank you
pat
cw
To everyone how has seen Gary Edgar's information on paying for a copy of the Asbrigg/Ashbridge/Asbridge tree on cd. I am very sad to tell you that what I believe is being sold is in fact the work of myself and the many people that have helped me over the years. I cannot be 100% sure but the information on the type of media required the name variations and the number of individuals on the tree make me very sure.
I have to tell you that is also an old version of the tree and is incorrect in many places and totally wrong for the early part of the tree. If you are searching your roots from what ever part of the world which link back to England and especially the Cumberland area please contact me and I will try to help you with out any need for payment. Of course if I find out this is not my work I shall withdraw these comments.

Hi,
I have a Sarah Catherine Ashbridge (mother's maiden name Kate STOKES) of Philadelphia, PA who was married in 1904 to Albert M. Leon in Camden, NJ...I am not certain whether or not Sarah had siblings, but since our Ashbridge's are about the same age, I'm curious if that name is at all familiar to you.
Please get back to me if this sounds familiar.
Thanks.

I think they were all cotton weavers. Jacob was a cotton weaver, so were the McAhaffy's who lived with Margaret. John Ashbridge who was Jacob's father-in-law was also a cotton weaver. Philadelphia was big industry back then. They seemed to have settled and worked in an area in Philadelphia known as Frankford. The factory were the worked was in Frankford. Margaret is the name of a Street in Frankford. Back in the 1880's many of these areas were their own entity, however, overtime they became part of the City of Philadelphia. Frankford (or Frankford Town) is considered a neighborhood today. Why were you looking under Ashbridge?

The 1880 census lists Margaret Wheatley (69) living next door (or across the street) from Jacob (39). I was just guessing that she might be Jacob's mother. But I'm confused about the mother-in-law part. She was living with an Edward and Martha McAhaffy. I think we should talk on the phone. I will email you with my phone number.

I think we have the same Jacob Wheatley. First, I thought he was born in Maryland because on the 1880 census the abbreviation in birthplace looked like MD. Anyway, since then I received Civil War military and pension records which indicate that he was born in Montgomery Co. (suburb of Phila.) Then, a letter from a friend of his states "I have known the said gent since 1859. We were living in Springfield Del. Co. Penna. when he moved there....". So, he was in Delaware County. They moved around alot - I don't know why. He was married in Laurelton, PA in August of 1865. He had at least one daughter born in Johnstown, PA in 1875. But was not there when the flood occurred, they were in Phila. Also, in the 1880 census, Jacob lived at 102 West End Street, and a Margaret Wheatley, Edward and Martha McAhaffy lived at 101 West End Street. At the time, Margaret is listed as being 69 and the Mother-in-law. Do you think Leonard's wife, Margaret would have been 69 at this time?

Dear Kathryn:

I think we may be close. My Great-Great Grandmother was Hannah Ashbridge, daughter of John,I'm not sure of a middle initial. Anyway, I have proof the Hannah's daughter, Peurmelia (not sure of the spelling, but it was shortened to Pearl) was born in Johnstown in 1875. I got the chills when I read your letter. I was just doing a family tree for my son's school project, and there is great uncle named William. I was wondering who he was named after (back then it seemed they named you after someone). What I was wondering is if your Mother-In-Law would have approximate years of birth for John M. and William G. Ashbridge. John M. and Hannah could have been brother and sister or cousins. My Great, great, great Grandfather John Ashbridge, I'm guessing was born around 1815. In 1880, at age 65, he was living in Philadelphia with Hannah Ashbridge-Wheatley. I will go back and find out where Pearl's three older sisters were born. My answers may be in Johnstown, PA. Thank you and your Mother-In-Law so much. Kathy O'Donnell

Do you have any info on Ezra?
There is a street in West Chester named after the Ashbridges. Do you live in PA? I always enjoy visiting the Historical Society in West Chester. You can almost visualize "days gone by" in that city when you drive through the main street. It is lined with sycamore trees that date back a very long time. I understand the Ashbridge bible is on display somewhere in Phila. Have you ever seen it or know where it is on display?
Linda Bivenour

Re: Ashbridge/Sampson/Sullivan - Location Correction

After re-reading Elizabeth Ashbridge's journal, "Some Account of the Fore Part of the Life of Elizabeth Ashbridge" [which covers her life from birth to just after the death of her second husband John Sullivan], I realize that her relations were in Pennsylvania, not in New Jersey. From internal evidence in the journal, it appears that Elizabeth attended Chester Monthly Meeting at about the time William Hammans was a public Friend whose ministry in the 1730s was one of the influencing factors in Elizabeth's seeking membereship in the Society of Friends. Ashbridge gives her father's name as Thomas Sampson, a ship's surgeon, but only mentions her mother's first name, Mary, who was a widow with a son an daughter when she married Thomas. The family were Anglicans in the city of Middlewich, Cheshire, England.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Karen Greim Mullian
booboopies@aol.com

ASHBRIDGE of Caldbeck

Looking for info about my GGrandmother, Elizabeth Asbridge/Ashbridge, b. 1856,57,58? in Caldbeck, Cumberland, England. She is listed on the British Census 1881 in the household of my GGrandfather, Isaac HEADS, b. 1838, in Dalston, Cumberland, England. They were living in North Bedburn, Durham, England with my then, 2 yr. old grandfather....Robert Ashbridge HEADS, b. 1878 in Howden-le-Wear, England. There were two other children, John Joseph HEADS, b. 1883 and Isaac Jr., b. 1889. Elizabeth, Robert and Isaac Jr came to the USA (date unknown to me) and John ("Jack") came later in 1908....went back....and came again to stay in 1914. They resided in East Palestine, Ohio. Robert married Sarah Ann Leake of EP and they had two children: Pauline Leake HEADS and Geneva Helen HEADS (my mother)......no boys to pass on the name of HEADS. In Elizabeth Ashbridge's obit of 1918, names of Pinkerton, Davidson, Chaplow were mentioned as family and friends from Pa. and Oh. Any info, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated
