Mark,
Thank you for replying so promptly.

I have just discovered the Ashcroft family tree and that there is an error on my part of the tree. The error is at 48 ii and is as follows-

LOUISA JANE GRUNDY, b. Abt. 1874, Molong, New South Wales, Australia; d. Unknown; m. GEORGE
STERINS, Abt. 1895, Picton, New South Wales,Australia; d. Unknown.
More About GEORGE STERINS and LOUISA GRUNDY:
Marriage: Abt. 1895, Picton, New South Wales,Australia
165. iii. SELINA ADA M GRUNDY, b. Abt. 1876, Molong, New South Wales, Australia; d. Abt. 1935, Tamworth,
New South Wales, Australia.

George Sterins is incorrect and should be George Stevens who is my Great Grand Father.

Can you please advise as to whom I can contact to fix this error. This is also incorrect on the Taber family tree.

Awaiting your reply.

Best regards
Ross Tynan
I am a descendant of Ernest Ashcroft (1888-1974). He is my great great grandfather. I am looking for information about him and his family.

I know he married Nancy Wimbush and had 2 children Mary and Thomas. He then married again and had a daughter. Does anyone know him?

I think his father was Willaim Ashcroft and his mother was Jane Morgan. Can anyone help me with information about this family? Also any photos people may have of this family would be fantastic!

Thanks

Emma

Hi Barbara, thank you for your reply. don't remember meeting you. My mother did have other kids, Sandra, Jimmy and Susan who were all coloured. Butch was called Robert by name in reality.I never knew my father or mother properly, but when I did meet my mother it was very disappointing. As for leaving it alone, I only wanted to find out about any relatives, I found Doreen and went to visit her, it was a disaster, for some reason she turned to hating me.I knew of you from her.I am still digging into my past , I have a right to know, Doreen knows more than she is willing to admit, but I am moving on without her.Anyway at least you gave me a little bit of info, no hard feelings,Barry.

Hi Sue,

Thanks for the reply. I must say you could be a twin of my brother Ron, born Randolph Alexander Ashcroft , the same name as his fathers.I have heard stories about him burning himself on purpose to claim insurance money, and it was supposed to have been in all the papers. If he was married to your mum in 1969/1970 I would have been 19. My mother never told us about him, she came on the scene when Ron had just started work.I have no info in relation to our fathers side at all. I do have info on my mothers side, but it only proves to me how much I was badly let down by both of them. As for grandparents I don't know any of them. Remember I went into care with Manchester city council when I was one year old after being abandoned by both my parents. I don't know any family history on the Ashcroft side. After looking into my family tree on my mothers side and finding certain relatives I have given up as it has only bought me more strife. I don't even talk to my brother now. to me I think family trees are a waste of time now, because when you do find someone, they more often or not don't want to know, and as in my case , they didn't want to know when I was placed in care. I was excited when I met your sister Yvonne, I knew her for such a small time, but I just clicked with her, then the tragedy happened, and I lost even her. Your mother was very off with me at the time , so that ended another part of my family life. anyway I hope you get what you are looking for, but as in my experience, I doubt it.

Barry

GGgrandfather, James Ashcroft b. @1850 in "Asper Moor, Lancashire, England". Census record must be spelled incorrectly. Possibly Ashen, Ashton, Aspull, Ashes Moor.
James married Sarah in 1868 and had two children, Robert b. 1869, and James b. 1873. Sarah died, and James second wife was Jane Bowe. They had 4 children: Thomas b. 1876; William b. 1882; Albert b.1886; and Mary J. b. 1890. Both marriages for James, and all children, events took place in Durham England. James was a coal miner who probably could not read or write. His father may also have been 'James'. My line descends thru Thomas b. 1876. Thomas came to the U.S. in 1911 with wife Hannah, daughter Edith and son Arthur. Is anyone researching this line?

A few other dates for you Deanna. I assume Reg must have been Mr Ashcroft's 'middle' name or something as Ellen Johnson's marriage was in 1907 at St Mary the Virgin Church, Eccleston (about 2 to 3 miles from Sanderson Lane), and the spouse is shown as James Ashcroft, rather than Reg.

I cannot find any references to birth's of a Dora or Flora, but I did find three other possible children of the couple. All the births were registered at Croston (which would be the nearest place to register from Heskin/Eccleston), and all with the mothers maiden name as Johnson. They are:-
Enolia Marcel Ashcroft, born 1908
Doris Ashcroft, born 1910
Thurston Ashcroft, born 1913

A strange coincidence that you mentioned a Thurston McCloud and a Thurston Ashcroft appears! Also, could the Dora actually be the above mentioned Doris?

That 'Doris' question was answered when I looked through the marriage records and found a Doris Ashcroft marrying a Reginald McLeod in Wrightington in 1939. Your spelling of McCloud is how its pronounced. I cannot find any children of the couple which makes me wonder if the Thurston McCloud you mentioned was being confused with the Thurston Ashcroft.

Enolia Marcel Ashcroft married a James Woodcock in 1932, also in Wrightington. Thurston Ashcroft, I believe, married at St Georges Church, Chorley in 1938 to a Phyllis Hargreaves Waterhouse, and there are two possible children from this marriage.

I only live about five miles away from Horrock Hill.

Paul

The address of Sanderson Lane, Harrock Hill, Heskin, Chorley, Lancashire, England is where my grandmother, Ellen's sister, would send posts around the time of WWII.

Ellen was born to John Johnson & Barbara Valentine on
01 Jun 1879. No other dates are known to me.

Ellen and Reg had, to my knowledge, two daughters, Dora and
Flora. Nothing else about Flora is known by me. Dora married a fellow by the surname MCCLOUD and had a son named Thurston McCloud.

Dee

I believe that John's parents were John Ashcroft born about 1746 at Deane by Bolton, Lancashire, England and Margaret Rigby born about 1750 at Westhoughton, Wigan, Lancashire, England.

Their children were Robert b.1772, Mary b 1776, William b1778, John our convict and Ruth b.1782.

I would be happy to share additional information about the Ashcrofts if you are interested.

Best wishes

Patricia White

Hello again Brad, Ive just picked up your message, thanks for that. Im not quite sure of your connection to the Ashcroft family, I presume it is on your mothers side as your surname is different. I get a lot of my information from the census records. On the 1851 census, it ahows John Ashcroft as a shoemaker, born in Burtonwood, but now residing in Newton le Willows Lancashire He was then 52 years old and his wife Margaret 45, address "Newton common". I remember as a small child visiting my Grandmother in that very area of Newton le Willows. Sadly I didnt know my Grandfather Richard[Johns Grandson] as he died of pneumonia aged 45 in 1930.I no longer live in that part of the world but my eldest son does, so I visit regularly. There is an excellent website."The history of Earlestown and Newton le Willows" where you can gain a lot of insight into the area your ancestors have come from. I do hope that this has been a help, but please let me know if I can help you further Sincerely Judith

Hi Judith, thanks for your messages. At this point I'm not sure if our families are connected, only because I know so little about the Ashcroft side. I just recently received a copy of a marriage record for Margaret Ashcroft, but was disappointed as to what little information it contained: it only listed "full age" for her age, and only her father's name -- not her mother's. So what I hoped would give me some direction has turned out to be a dud. The only thing it did provide are the names of the witnesses, Thomas Ashcroft and Alice Sharples, however I don't know what relation the are to the couple. Perhaps John's brother and Margaret's sister? Anyway, not much help, but I'll keep researching and hopefully with come up with something. By the way, I believe my Ashcroft family is listed here (but again, not 100% sure): http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/igi/family_group_reco...

I sent you some information yesterday about my family "Ashcroft". I wondered whether a little more information may establish whether we are indeed part of the same family. My Grandmother Lilian Mabel Ashcroft was born in Newton le Willows, her maiden name Partington. She married my Grandfather Richard Ashcroft b,1884 [son of James]onthe14th August 1909. Richard died in 1930, so I never knew him, but I have somewhere in my possesion letters from Canada and photograph of my late father Richard Stanley Ashcroft b. 14/11/1911 dressed as a young boy in warm woollen clothes sent from relatives in Canada I wonder whether this is the link between us? I would be interested to hear what you think Judith

Hello Brad. I am the great great Granddaughter of John Ashcoft b. in Burtonwood 1799 married to Margaret b. 1806[my record shows p.o.b. Newton].In the 1881 census it shows him as a widower living with his son James b 1846,daughter in law Mary b.1846 their children are listed as Ada[2] Ellen[5]Emily[13]James[11] I dont know whether this is the same branch of the "Ashcroft" family you refer to, But I do know that my father,Richard Stanley Ashcroft b. 14/11/1911 had relatives in Canada who would send parcels and correspond with my Grandmother Lilian Mabel Ashcroft b.26/2/1890 in Blackrod Lancashire. I have not yet gone back any further than John, but am keen to try to find out as much imformation as I can. Please let me know if you think that we are part of the same family. My married name is Southern and I am now widowed, living in Yorkshire. Thanks Judith.

Death notice for Leslie Ashcroft - Oklahoma

Article from "The Wapanucka Press" 11 July 1907 Johnston County, Oklahoma

CONDUCTOR LOOSES LIFE

Crushed Between Cars at Randloph

Leslie Ashcroft conductor on a Rock Island freight, was run over and killed at Randolph Monday morning.

It appears that the train stopped at Randolph to do some switching Monday morning, shortly after midnight, and shifted a couple of cars to the siding. When backing to the main line the train “cornered” a car that had not cleared and it was overturned, Ashfcroft standing on top of one of the cars, and as it started to go over jumped, but was pinned beneath the car and horribly crushed.
