I am looking for information concerning Ambrose Asher. He was taken captive by the Lakota tribe on August 7, 1864. His grandfather and uncles were killed in the Indian raid, but he and a cousin, Lucinda Eubanks survived. They were released in Denver in September of 1864 through the intercession of Chief Black Kettle.
Ambrose has been mistakenly identified in the past as "Connie" Eubanks. Why is unknown. He may have been thought to have been a Eubanks because he was living with his mother's family at the time of his capture. The name "Connie" may have been a nickname, or a diminuitive for Conrad.
The date and place of his birth is unknown as is his father's name. However, his mother Mary Eubanks was known to have later married a mna by the name of Dye. Ambrose married and begat five children: Samuel, Jane, James, Bess and Tennesee. The family had strong roots in the Sedalia and California, Missouri area before settling in Little Rock, Arkansas.
If you have information concerning Ambrose Asher please respond.
