I don't know whether these would match up with the Jane Ashford I'm researching.

Somewhere in the past I located what I think is her birth date of May 2, 1829 in Charlton Adam, Somerset. It is possible that she married Edmund Board in 1848 in Langport, Somerset. It is possible that she is the one on the 1841 census.

She died September 9, 1915 in Stewarttown, Ontario.

I have a Jane Ashford b:1838 ?Horsington? Somerset daughter of Thomas Ashford b:1805 Holton Somerset and Sarah ? b:1806 Hosington.

have got jane on the 1841 census living with her parents, but by 1851 I have "lost" her. Her father was a butcher and lived in Horsington and North Cheriton. (villages very near to each other) not looked for Thomas further than the 1851 census but Jane not living with her parents at their address.

My Ashfords came from Holton in Somerset (near Wincanton) furthest back I have got is Joseph Ashford b: c1768. holton church records missing from that time, but could have been born in Bruton somerset. some of his decendants went to Suffolk, some to Birmingham.

there are a bunch of ashfords in texas (grimes county). my ggg grandparents are ephraim and laura ashford born around 1817. some of the census records say they were from carolina and some say mississippi their children were mimi, robert, jane, julia & mandy.

I'm looking for information about the children of Joseph Ashford, filemaker, who died 1830. Caroline b 1821 became a teacher and married John Parsons in Greenwich 1854, they lived in Bordesley 1861 as teacher and hosier(!) and then appear to vanish.
Joseph b 1811 was a filecutter, and lived in Aylesbury, Cambridge, Oxford, Norwich and Sheffield before returning to Aston. Married Ann Maria Watts in Norwich.
Other siblings were Sarah, Frederick and MAry Ann. All info welcome.

Were your Harborne Ashfords descended from frederick (1814) (gun engraver) and Ellen?
F is a ggg uncle of mine - my branch ended up in Sheffield, but I'm trying to trace those who stayed around Birmingham including Caroline (1821) who married john Parsons, and Frederick's siblings John (1817), Mary Ann (1815) and Sarah (1811).
Are any of these in your tree?

I have Mary Ann Ashford in my tree - bit later than yours but her mother was named Ellen Ashford - born 02-04-1856. Have a possible trace to an Elizabeth as being mother but not sure?

You can find this book by visiting HeritageQuest Online. Click on Books, next click on People, then enter the name Ashford. You will find this book under the Title James and George Ashford, Jr. of Fairfield SC, by Charles Rabb Ashford, Sr, printed in 1956. You can read the entire contents online. If you are not already aware of this book I hope it will be of help in your search. All 128 pages of it :-)
P.S. The book may also be found on this site, I am not sure but it is well worth the effort.

Jack Ashford, 79, Green Bay, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007, at home following a battle with cancer.

Jack will be celebrating his 80th birthday on March 26, 2007, with his wife, Maxine and his daughter, Lois Wielgus. What a reunion that will be.

Jack was known to many as "Grandpa Jack." He met and married his wife, Maxine, in Cincinnati, Ohio, where they spent many years before moving to Green Bay. After living in Green Bay for a while, they moved to Detroit, Mich., where Grandpa Jack became "The Candy Man." He got a job working with a candy distributor. One of the memories that we have of "Grandpa Jack" is going to Detroit, opening all his cupboards and finding candy EVERYWHERE!!!!! The grandkids were in heaven! After living in Detroit for a few years, they moved back to Green Bay to be closer to family.

In Green Bay, Jack began working for Twirl Company, a family owned business, where he stayed until his retirement. Grandpa Jack had a love for Harley-Davidson motorcycles. In his early years, he took many road trips all around the country.

One of the things that Grandpa Jack lived for was his boat. He and his grandsons, Danny, Dave and Dennis, would ride down the river to Wrightstown to grab a burger and a beer. Everyone was welcome to come, and most of Grandpa Jack's friends went two or three times per summer. We will all miss those trips with him. He was also an avid camper and fisherman. He spent last summer going to Montana Lake camping with his son-in-law, Ed Wielgus.

Grandpa Jack, you truly had your moments in life that so many of us were a part of. We are all proud of you and will miss you tremendously. Your kindness, courage and strength will get us through these hard times. His good friend, Chris "Sweetie" would say, "NOW THAT'S SOMETHING TO HANG YOUR HAT ON!"

Along with his parents, brothers, and sisters, Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Ashford; daughter, Lois Wielgus; and grandson, Timothy Wielgus. Also, one of his friends, Howard.

Jack is survived by his son-in-law, Edward Wielgus and his children, Dennis Wielgus and his son, Cameron; Carrie Wielgus and her daughter, Morgan; David and Stacy Wielgus and their daughters, Alexis and Madison; Daniel Wielgus and Christina; his daughter, Grace and Christina's children, Tiffany and Branden. Grandpa Jack had many special friends who loved him dearly, Christina, Shannon and Brad Pearson; Todd and Tracy Buth, Jerry and Carol Burkel, Tami Knopp, and Bill Van Heckie.

Special thanks to Unity Hospice, who were angels here on earth. Grandpa Jack really appreciated all the love and care given to him in his final days. Thank you Linda, Molly, Patty, and Grandpa's favorite helper, Miriah.

In accordance with Jack's wishes, no services will be held.

Cherrie - I am not sure why this old message popped into my email box recently. It's been a long time since we last touched base. Perhaps you know by now but the little boy didn't come from Ireland but from England. The little boy stowed away in his big brothers cabin and was caught by the Captain while at sea. Of course it's possible they set sail from London but were from Ireland. However, when I search Ireland I don't find any Tomerlins ever. When I search England and Scotland I find them as far back as 1200. The farther back the farther north they were. I suspect we were originally Scottish. There is a standing family tradition among the Rogers family of Chickasha OK that Sarah Doshie Caroline Edwards the child of Richard Carroll Edwards and Mary Ann Ashford (daughter of John B. Ashford and Polly Jane (Jinsey) King was a direct descendent of Mingo Moshalatubbee.

It is possible they were mistaken and the grandmother of interest is the other side of the marriage between Richard Carroll Edwards and Caroline Miller (also a common Choctaw name). Her father was Manning Miller but that line goes back to SC via LA. Her mother was Mary Elkins who appears in MS in 1818. That would place her the correct age and place to be a Choctaw born during King Moshulatubbee's life.

Speculation, but this is a real mystery.

Her and her sisters were born in Old Eagle Town, in his district and attended Wheelock Academy.

This Indian school was east of Millerton, west of Broken Bow, which was close to Old Eagle Town, which seems to be nowhere on the maps anymore. It is in the heart of McCurtain County, which was Choctaw country.

The girls were very dark and clearly Amerind, which led noone to disbelieve her heritage.

What the line backwards to the Choctaw is very uncertain, but the girls say their grandmother was the daughter of the King, from whence the daughters and sons took their name.

I too am interested in this line. I agree that the Jane King born in South Carolina is necessarily the right person.

James Ashford of Fairfield South Carolina

I am looking for information about the slaves owned by James and Mary (Rabb) Ashford of Fairfield, South Carolina. In James Ashford's Will he willed some 20 slaves to his wife and children two being my GGGG Grandparents Jacob and Silvy. His son John R. Ashford (1808-1856)moved to Winston County, Mississippi and bought many slaves from South Carolina with him. After John died his brother James R. Ashford took over. Most of the slaves settled in the surrounding areas of Choctaw, Wintson, and Attala.

My name is Evan Ashford. My Ashford family were slaves in South Carolina before coming to Winston County, Mississippi. They spread into many areas of Mississippi. My GGGG Grandparents were Jacob and Sylvia Ashford. My GG Grandfather was William W. Ashford b. 1852 and died in Oklahoma in the 1920s. Ashford is not a name heard too often so there may be a connection.

Elijah M. Ashford was my 2nd great grandfather. I have his father as Aaron and his mother as Rebecca Nutt. I show his parents as having 9 children, George, Susannah, Jonathan, Elijah, Lydia, Sarah, Mary, Elderkin, and Aaron. Do you have any other information on this family. I only have birthdates on some of these children marriages of 7 of the nine. I will be happy to share any of the information I have with you. So happy to find someone else who is related to this line. Aaron is a dead end of this line for me so would love to extend it if possible.

I am looking for relatives of this family - my grandmother stated she is one of the grandaughters of chief mushulatubbee. She indicated that Jane King was the daughter of Thomas King, son of the chief. I had posted a few days ago, and the post has been deleted. I am not sure how that happened, but I did not delete. I would appreciate any information that would lead me to the parents of Jane King.

You are right. John Ashford b. 4-Jul-1846 was my g. grandfather. I also have a relationship to the Kiddies. Isabel Wallace married to Robert Kiddie-1830 Married-1855 was the sister of Mary Ann Wallace who was married to John Ashford1846. I have death clipping for Robina Kiddie(1889) who I believe was the daughter of Helen Ashford and Robert Kiddie. How do I get your e- mail?

Oklahoma Ashford Family History

I am searching for my great-grandparents. Clyde or Clydy Preston Ashford and Caroline Ashford. I know that my grandfather, Jack Walton Ashford was born in Durant, Oklahoma in Dec. 1922. Someone said that they believe that my gg-grandfather lived in Oklahoma until he died and is also buried there...I don't know where or when.

Lucille Ashford obit lookup, please!

Can someone please help me? I found my great-grandfather's niece, Lucille Bingen, married Glenn Ashford and lived in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

She had two children that I'm aware of: Robert (killed in WWII) and Marguerite Mary, born in 1926. Then the information I have dies out.

I am aware that Lucille died on November 23, 1983 and am hoping that someone could please look up her obituary for me. I'll be happy to reimburse. Thank you!!

I have info on Wallaces to around 1740 if this is of help.

Kiddies are back to around 1778.

Ashfords back to around 1810 but awaiting copy of parish records for Benholm. I have death register entry for John Ashford (he died 2 Jan 1879 age 68) - no details shown for father and I am not quite able to make out mothers surname (looks like Wyllie or Wilkie???)

John Ashford was born around 1810 in parish of Benholm, Kincardineshire (d 1879) and married Mary Clark (1820 - 1902) at Glenbervie parish, Kincardinshire on 11 Dec 1841.

They had 7 children (born between 1842 and 1861) - last of whom is Helen Ashord (my great grandmother.

My Helen Ashford was born 12 March 1861 and married a Robert Kiddie on 15 December 1883 in Dundee.

It would appear that although both coincidentally had a father called John Ashford (mine was born around 1810).

The Ashford name was not very common in Scotland, so
I think your John Ashford could have been a brother to my Helen (if he was born 14 Jul 1845 at Glenbervie, Kincardine).

However I have not researched children to other brothers and sisters to my Helen (yet!).
