Jessica, I corresponded with your Grandmother Pauline for many years and also visited her when we went to Maryland. My father was Pauline's cousin. His name was Lacy Ashmead. Your Grandmother's sibblings were Ina, Lillian, and Carroll. He was the only one I knew. He was very well liked by my Dad. He worked on the railroad. Your grandmother wrote me many letters about family history. We go back to James R. Ashmead and Mary Minson of Va. The stow-a-way story may be about him. He came from Ireland. His son was Joseph who married Nancy Evans of Smith Island. His children were, Sarah John, your great-grandfather, Recbecca, Noah, my grandfather, Saardelia, Joseph, Laban, Lewis, Mary, and George. E-mail me if you would like other information. My e-mail is dgibbs@stny.rr.com
Your grandmother loved coming to California to see all of you when you were growing up. She was so proud of all her grand-children and great grandchildren. She was a wonderful lady in the true sense of the word. I deep in touch with your Aunt Nancy. I visited you all in California many years ago when you lived in China Lake. Hope all is well with your family. Joan Ashmead Gibbs
