Classification: Query
Surnames: Askey, Erskine
My mother is a direct descendent of Capt. Thomas Akey through his daughter Ann and then through the Lucas Line then down through Crossmeyer. I found a website of the Scotland government that allowed me to search through all parish records for Capt. Askey's father's birth record around 1690 in Scotland. A search for church recorded births in the years 1670 through 1712 comes up with five Thomas Erskines. The first result in the search is Thomas Erskine born 1687 of the Stow Parish(church) whose father's name was Johne Erskine. There are four other people born from 1691-1706 and their father's name Henry, Alexander, Alexander, and John. I purchased the two records where his father's name is John because Capt. Askey named a son John and not Henry or Alexander. One of those with a father named John was the Earl of Marr and I don't think it was him because an Earl's son probably wouldn't have given up his inheritance to go to Scotland. I also need to check and see which of these parishes was Presbyterian because that would narrow it down further.
I am looking for the current e-mail address of Scott Goodyear who has posted the most info about the ancestors of Capt. Askey. I want to ask him and everyone searching on this line whether or not anyone has searched the Presbyterian parish records for Antrim County, Ireland in 1727 .
Thankyou,
Jennifer Pulsipher
