Sorry, again we're not related (although probably distant cousins) It might help if you gave some location and possibly birth dates if you have them. Sometimes you can backtrack with some of this information. My Aslin changed the name from Asselin and they were from Aurora, Kansas.
Good luck in your search.

I only met my Father when I turned 23 in 2003, and he was everything my Mother had said he was, not much, so life goes on right? What he did let me know is that I have a half sister out there somewhere, and before I get married and change my last name from Asselin to Evans, I'd like to find her. All I know is my father married a woman who's father owned a skydiving business, and saw pictures of him at his skydiving wedding, and that his second marriage went as well as the first did. He failed to tell me a name, and said he has no idea where they are. My father's name is Joe Asselin and I hope I find my half sister, my name is Robyn Mary Asselin, soon to be Robyn Mary Evans. If I don't find you out there sis, have a great life!

I have found the connection all the way back to Rene as well. Joseph and Ellen were my GGGG Grandparents. Their son Michel was my GGG Grandfather. Which makes me related to your husband, although very distantly :) I am now looking for a possible native connection that has been talked about in amongst my family, but never specifically put to one person. I believe they said it was a "Metis" connection. Have you found anything like that in the line?

Joseph Asselin

I'm looking for more info on my great grandfather, Joseph Asselin - and there are a lot of them! He was born in July 1861 in Canada (I believe there were 3 or 4 Joseph Asselins born in Canada in that year alone), and I don't know where or what his parents' names were. He moved to Norway, Michigan in 1882 with his first wife (don't know her name) and their son Maxime who was born shortly before they moved. In 1888 they had a daughter, Mary, and I believe the wife died in childbirth or shortly after.

Sometime after this, Joseph and his kids moved to Calumet, Michigan. Then Joseph married a Cordelia around 1889, and they had three kids: Donalus, Albert, and Emil. I believe Cordelia may have had a child from an earlier marriage, an Annie? She shows up on a census with the family but I don't believe she's Joseph's. It might be a mistake, because Mary is missing, but I am not sure. I don't know Cordelia's maiden name, and she died in 1905. Sometime after that, he married Claudia Caron, daughter of Charles Caron and Margaret Morin, who was born in Michigan in 1878. Joseph and Claudia had 4 children: Leonard (my grandfather), Francis, Paul, and Joseph E. They lived in Calumet for many years, with Joseph becoming president of the town. He died in Ironwood, Michigan. I have a lot of documentation on him from the years in Calumet. I don't know when or where Claudia died.

I'd love to know more about any of these people, but especially if anyone has any information on this Joseph Asselin. Family stories have it that his parents died when he was very young, and he became a wagon driver and then juggler for the circus - my dad has his wooden juggling pins. I don't know how much of that is true or even how to verify it. Any help is much appreciated!

Hi Steve, I have no records that I received notice of your previous reply of of 29 May 2006 or that I replied to your e-mail address. I had a computer breakdown just about then and lost much computer activity for late May 2006.

You are correct in identifying Francois Asselin, b. 1720, as I last common ancestor. I am descended from Angelique Marie Ange Asselin, born 1759 in St. Vallier, of Francois' wife Marie Anne Gautron dit LaRochelle. You are descended from her brother Jacques, b.1761.

Angelique Marie Ange Asselin married Francois Bruneau in 1779 and they had four sons in St. Gervais and those four sons married and had children in St. Gervais. Francois died in St. Gervais in 1807 but I have been unable to find a death/burial date for Angelique or Ange.

In your 2006 posting you proved an e-mail address of kathleen_loranger@yahoo.com. If that address is still correct and you want to pursue more connections, let me know at bethanddonb@aol.com.

Researching our upcoming trip to Isle D'Orleans, I tripped on this message board. My ancestry starts Jacques Asselin & Cecile Olivier also. My records show that they had four children - David(my lineage)born abt 1627, Jacques abt 1629, Noelle - unknown until your thread - abt 1621, and Guillaume - unknown - abt 1623. Because of the unknown dates I assumed David was firstborn, interesting. I had no record of Rene - abt 1631. David marries Catherine Boudart on 8-28-1655 in France then we have Pierre (born abt 1659 Ste. Famille, Ile d'Orleans,Quebec - Francois - Francois - Francois - Abraham - Abriam - Joseph (my great grandfather) - Albert Ashland (name change and move to Maine) and my Dad - Llewellyn! Please contact me if you want further information. April samnae@verizon.net

Immediate members of my Asselin family (12) were issues of Jean Baptiste Asselin with Marie Josephte Chamberland, all born in the St. Michel, Bellechasse, Quebec area. With the exception of one, all reached audulthood in their native Canada. Two remained in Canada (Montreal and Quebec City), 8 came to the U.S between 1865-90, settling on French Island in the La Crosse, WI area, and one settled in Fall River, MA.

Hi Sarah,

I believe the Joseph Asselin that you are searching for is also in my family tree. A number of years after Ellen Barry died, he married Angelique Martin, the widow of Joseph Pilon in 1876 in Lafontaine, ON. They were both 55 at the time. The information that I have is as follows.

Joseph's parents were:
Albert Asselin and Marie Lortie Married Feb 15, 1819, Les Cedres, Quebec

Albert's parents:
Pierre Asselin and Angelique Lalonde Married Aug 17, 1788, Les Cedres

Pierre's parents:
Phillipe Asselin and Marie Genevieve Toussaint married 1747, St Roch-des-Aulnaies, Quebec

Phillipe's parents:
Phillipe Asselin and Marie Madeleine Dessaint St. Pierre married 1701 Riviere Ouelle, Quebec

Phillipe was born Aug 30, 1676, St Famille, Ile D'Orleans
Phillipe's parents were: Rene Asselin (Ancelin)and Marie Jouin

Hi Reggie,

I think the Joseph with no info might be the connection I am looking for. I think he might be my G.G.G.G. grandfather. The information I have doesn't go back after him, although I have been told that we are descendents from Rene Ancelin. Is there any chance that you have found out more information about him since this was posted. My G.G.G.G. grandfather Joseph Asselin was married to Ellen Barrie. They had my G.G.G. Grandfather Thomas Asselin who married Exilda Daoust (I can go up three or four generations here) on August 10, 1880. They had six children I do have names and marriage dates for them. Do you think that this might be the same Joseph? Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Sarah
