Yes. My brother, Lloyd Folger Athearn, has been living in Boulder and Golden since 1995. We are also descended from Simon Athearn, and more recently from Fred Goodrich Athearn of San Francisco, through his son Folger Athearn, Sr. (died Dec. 1992) and grandson Folger Athearn, Jr. (1934 - 2000). Lloyd is married to the younger daughter of Colorado author Sandra Dallas.

Some Athearn Deaths in Maine

I have no connection to this family. I am just posting info. I have come across while volunteering at the historical society. I have discovered the hard way that within a certain span of time, if you don’t have the date and place of death, it’s hard to track someone down.

Some of the names that appear to be maiden names may very well be married names and the other name given be the maiden name – at least it tells you a date and place of death – a good starting point. This is all the info. I have on these people although I do have a number of vital record books for the Knox County (Maine) area and would be willing to do a quick lookup or two. I am typing in literally hundreds of these entries so please be as specific as possible if you need a lookup.

Benjamin H. Athearn died Nov. 18, 1917 in Rockland. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias. He is buried in the Acorn Cemetery (9th Ave.).

Catherine N. Lang Athearn died Aug. 30, 1906 in Rockland. She is buried in the Achorn Cemetery in Rockland.

Mabel W. Burns Athearn died Aug. 8, 1930 in Rockland. He is buried at the Achorn Cemetery in Rockland.
I think I have a connection for you. A first cousin of my father, Marie Kochenderfer, married Elmer Athearn in Columbus, Ohio in 1903. Elmer's parents were Frank Athearn b. 1878 and Emma Bader. Frank's parents were Levi S. Athearn, b. 1848, and Sarah Elizabeth Rhea. Levi's parents were James F. Athearn, b. 1810, and Lydia Starbuck of the Nantucket, MA whaling ships Starbucks.
James F. Athearn's parents were James Athearn, b. 1784
and Lydia Carey. And the father of this James was George Athearn, b. 1754, George's father was James Athearn, b. 1725. The father of this James was Jethro Athearn, b. 1692 and HIS father was the well-known Simon Athearn, b. 1643.
His tombstone is still standing in West Tisbury on Martha's Vineyard. Let me know whether this connects with you.
Hi.
I stumbled upon this link during a google search. I'm always interested in the Athearn line! I am a 10th generation Athearn from Martha's Vineyard, MA. My father is James Athearn, grandfather Elmer (Mike) Athearn b. 9-15-1916. My brothers are Simon Athearn (27- named after THE Simon who we believe to be the first Athearn in the US), and Daniel Athearn (25)- I am 31. Both my brothers are back on the island with pretty much my entire extended family except some cousins. I currently live in Boulder, Colorado, and would love to hear if any Athearns are living out here!

Hello Prudence! I am only too happy to hear from you! My grandfather was Carl Francis Athearn who was the grandson of Levi Starbuck Athearn, son of James Frederick Athearn who left MA in 1859 (long interesting story there). My grandfather has passed away, as well as my mother and many of her siblings (I am 39) but I do know of a grand uncle still living in TN as well as many Athearns in Florida. I have amassed quite a bit of information about the Athearns, largely in part to the help of Susan Fox and Jack Thompson, both on this forum and both wonderful people. I am living in a small OR town and would love to hear from you and talk family. I can be reached at islandzoo@centurytel.net
~Kathy Downie
P.S. I think it's wonderful that you and your brothers carry family names (especially SIMON!!). If I had gotten into our family history earlier, my children would definitely had different names.....

They say that Farmingdale library may have some records. I am working on this. I don't think that New Vineyard records are at the Maine state archives since they didn't have any to send .
I am also researching this line. My grandfather was Frederick Folger Athearn b. 8-8-1891, son on Levi Starbuck Athearn and Sarah Rhea. I went to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket this summer to dig up information, and also visited relatives in Georgia and got their files. I am working on putting it all together and posting it online. In the meantime, if you wish to contact me write to susanf0x@msn.com
