I am Nig Atteberry's granddaughter. He was quite a character, so I can only imagine what that letter must contain! His given name was Lonzie Atteberry, and Nig was his nickname that everyone knew him by.

I see your post was from 2005, so I hope you get this. I imagine the dog in the picture was likely a greyhound, as they used them to hunt coyotes.

Teresa Commerford

David N. Atteberry Obituary

D. N. Attebery was born in Illinois on June 24, 1849 and died March 16, 1922 at the home of his son, S. H. Attebery in Elk City at the age of 72 years, 8 months and 17 days. He was married three times; the first time in Illinois on Nov. 17 1869. No children were born to this union. His second marriage was in Illinois to Miss Melvina C. Robinson on September 4, 1871. To this union was born one son, Wm. H. Attebery, who lives near Elk City. The third marriage was in Illinois to Miss Fanny S. Rosenbarger on July 15, 1873. To this union were born six children; Elizabeth Jane and Fannie Bell, who passed on in infancy, and Mary Ellen Rosendale, living near Elk City, John Edward, who died at the age of 31 years, Samuel Harvey of Elk City and Laura May Jefferson living near Elgin, Kans. The five living children are the only survivors. Mr. Attebery moved from Illinois to Kansas in the Fall of 1879 and settled in Elk County near Howard, living there until about two years ago, when he moved to Elk City and has since made his home with his son, S. H. Attebery. Funeral services were held at the home of the latter at 2:30 p.m. Saturday by Rev. B. F. Tilley, pastor of the Baptist church. Burial was made in Oak Hill cemetery.
\--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am sorry that I cannot document which paper this came from. My cousin recently sent me this copy which she found in her mothers trunk.

Fannie Rosenbarger was also known as "Fannie Rosenberger". One member of the Rosenberger family was told by another cousin that it was pronounced Rosenbarger but spelled Rosenberger. That information may be of interest to other researchers.
I have two small tintype photos from my Aunt Laura, daughter of David Noah Attebery. I suspect they are from an Attebery in Illinois or Kansas. She also has some Porter pictures in her collection. Aunt Laura was David Noah Attebery and Fanny Susan Rosenberger's daughter. I will e-mail them to anyone who would like to see them. There are no names but would love to identify them.

My mother's family name is Atteberry and I have traced them back to about 1480 in England. After reading your original post I pulled up my Atteberry family tree on my computer and only found one Marion Atteberry. His name was Marion Francis Atteberry born in 1910 in McIntosh, OK, number two of ten children, son of Nathaniel Winfield Scott Atteberry. Feel free to contact me if you think this is the same Marion Atteberry. I will be more than happy to help. atteberry_family@yahoo.com

Atteberry Reunion Hosts in Texas??

Does anyone know Atteberrys who have hosted Atteberry reunions in Texas--Dallas to east TX area? They used to have a family tree chart they would post when I was a kid, that traced us all the way back to England. My grandmother had a copy of it, but unfortunately, I was told when she died, they found it was destroyed by water or bugs. I remember sometime before 2000, we got an invitation to a reunion hosted on someone's farm, but I cannot remember their names. Can't remember if it was the man or his wife that was the Atteberry. I think one of them may have been a pentecostal-type preacher, but not sure about that. Does any of this sound familiar? Thanks.
