Re: Robert Bakewell Atterbury

Hello,
At last, some one that knows what is going on, it was the letter that my cousin John has or had, he found it when they had to empty grandmothers house, he sent me the card, it has Julia's picture on it. as for the letter , I was told the name of granddads mother, Julia Atterbury, so I sent for the death certificate, that is what it said. she was b. Apr 15, 1842
d Jan 15, 1923, b NY. father Geo Davis, mother Schellinger
husband Frederick Atterbury,
Now she married Frederick in June of 1865, (from Atterbury records) Is this for a fact? my William Henry Bryant was b.
Nov 3, 1868, I thought he changed it when he was given away. he m Edith Margaret Clawson Aug. 25, 1895
5 boys, and 1 girl.
All the card says is she was canning, and for him to write, 1919, I think was the date. In the letter John said she had been looking for him for a very long time, also William's brother, he had never said he had sisters. But he was so closed mouth about his past and none of my uncles said one word, one of my aunts said his mothers name was Julia Elizabeth,
I looked for a Julia for a very long time.
Why did they put William Henry Atterbury instead of Hodges?
I was almost called Ella, but for some reason was changed to Eleanor.
Do you have a picture anyplace of Julia?
I can understand how you might feel about giving out your address but if you could go to my e- mail I will exchange addresses so I can send a copy of the post card, both sides.
Eleanor.
ellie@iwvisp.com
I also adopted two girls, mine might as well be blood.

Hi
There seem to be a lot of Roger Smee's and I can't tell which is which !

I think the following is correct, but let me know if it is wrong.

Roger Smee played for Reading before moving to Ostend, he then moved back to Reading and took over the club following the infamous boardroom battle with Rupert Murdoch.

He may also be the father of Alistair Smee who rowed across the Atlantic last year.

I have several other possible roles which may or may not be him !

PLease Let me know of any updates you receive

Pete Smee
(still trying to work out if I am a descendant of a Captain Hook's Mate)

Wanda,

Thanks for your imput but you have confused two of the five Thomas Attebery/.../Attebury's who were in Kentucky at this time.

My ancestor is the Thomas b c 1755 who died in Howard Co MO. He was married to Luraney and later to Ruth Reynolds (Tharp). I have documentation on him. I also have information on his death and estate in 1840 Howard Co MO.

The Thomas who was a minister and married Mary Browder is completely different. I am seeking information on his parentage to determine if he was a member of the larger Atterberry family or if he was related to the so-called "Job" line.

Feel free to contact me with additional questions and clarifications and proofs.

Marguerite

Job line et al

Wanda,

1) The "Job" line is a different but probably related line of Attebury's (that's the spelling most of the descendants use). Job's son Lewis came to America about 1803 and this family is mainly in the northeat. Have you heard of "Atterbury Glass?" That's a company that was run by members of that line. Several others were officers in the Civil War and one, Grosvenor, was an architect of some renown.

2) As for Moses, that line is probably from Nathan (15) one of the 9 probable sons of William Atterbury. The 9 sons are often but not always listed thus:
Michael 11
William 12
Charles 13
Richard 14
Nathan 15
John 16
Edward 17
Thomas 18
James 19

I think we corresponded long ago. Please contact me privately if you wish further information and explanations.

Marguerite

Dear Eleanor, Wow! You have presented a real mystery to me. First of all, my mother was adopted by Clara Atterbury and Rev. R.A. MacMullen. So the Atterbury's are not blood kin to me, although I am interested in them. Clara was the daughter of Julia Davis Atterbury and Frederick Atterbury. I have their family Bible. It lists Frederick's parents and their children, as well as the children of Frederick and Julia. There was indeed a son William, but he was William Hodgins Atterbury, b. 21 Mar 1870, d. 12 Feb 1902. There is no mystery about him at all. He was a Dr. in Litchfield, MI. He had two sisters, Clara and Ella.
Are you sure that Julia was his mother? The William I know about married, but had no children. I really can't figure out where the extra William came from. If you could tell me what Julia said on the card I might find a clue for you. Judy
Thomas Atterbury md. Mary Browder

Marguerite, I have a little information on your Thomas Atterbury at this point. I have just begun to research him because of a Thomas Atterbury in my husband's family. Although I am not positive about any of this at this point, I find that Thomas Atterbury b. ca 1755 was born in Prince George, Maryland. He died in Howard, Missouri, in 1840. His father is said to have been William Atterbury. I have found that they had at least two children (1) Kinchlow Atterbury, b. ca. 1824 in either Christian, Ky., or Fayette, Howard Co., MO. 2. Emily Atterbury, b. ca. 1826, in either Christian Co., Ky, or Fayette, Howard Co., Mo. There is a large group of people who are researching the Atterbury family. And because I have two Thomas Atterburys in my husband's family, I found this one interesting because one line of my husband's family came from Missouri and I found an Emily Atterbury who married a Johnathan Taylor Turpin on 5 June 1845. I have not much more than this. However, if I locate more, I will post it here. Wanda Cole

Thomas Atteberry Job line

Hi, Marguerite,
I hope you are prepared for all my questions.
First, what is the "Job" line?
Second, are you familiar with the gene pool project?
I found a William Attebury or Atteberry who had about
nine sons. He was born in England and his sons moved
to various places including Missouri. HE had a son
named James who also died in Missouri.
Which Thomas Atteberry in Missouri is listed
in the gene pool project as the son of William
Atteberry, Attebury, etc. who died in Maryland?
Thanks for answering my questions.

Third: which of these Thomases had a son named
Moses, or how many of them had a son named
Moses. My husband's line is from a Moses
Attebury, or Atteberry who named a son Thomas?

Wanda Cole
