North Carolina Auberry Branch
Following info gathered by Judy Smith, grandaughter of Andrew Auberry of Hayesville. Would appreciate any additional info on Jarrett Auberry's ancestry
The Auberrys
The Auberry family of Fannin County, Georgia, is descended from Jarrett Auberry (b. 1775 d. 1838) of Surry County, NC. The first record of him is the 1800 census in that county and no earlier records of Auberrys are found in Surry. It is believed that he came from another state as a young man rather than from Europe. He married Susanna Cockerham and they reared seven children.
Second Generation
There of the children of Jarrett and Susanna were:
Elijah (b. 1793 d. 1876) m. Polly Burress. He is described as 5’10†tall, black hair, grey eyes and fair complexion. He served in the War of 1812.
Nancy (b. 1815 d. 1880) m. William C. Smith
*William (b. 1802 d. 1859) m. Martha Smith (b. 1810 dod unknown)
Third Generation
William and Martha moved in 1842 or 43 to Cherokee County, NC (later became Clay) where eight of their nine children were born. After the death of William, Martha had to care for the family and the oldest son, Mark, took the role of “man of the house.†The children of William and Martha were:

Elizabeth (b. 1843) m. Julius Deal
Mickey (b. 1847) m. Joe Sanderson

Fourth Generation
Elijah (b. 1847 d. 1909) m. Louise Robinson (b. 1861 d. 1942) continued to live in Clay County. Elijah was killed in a hunting accident where he was mistaken for a wild turkey. He was a member of both the Mason and the Old Fellows Organizations.
