My Great Great grandfather was Nathan Powhatan Downing Auberry born in 1859. He married Mary Rosellan Bryan from Illinois. I am having a hard time finding any Indian information after the names were switched to Christian last names.

Hi, I don't know if you are still looking for information on this post since it's kind of old, but I have a little to add. Martha Collins who married John Auberry as Martha J "Mattie" Collins b. abt 1866 in Washington County. She was the daughter of James Collins (b. 1848 TN, my ggg grandfather) and his wife Sarah Ellen Wall (b. 1851, NC). Martha and John Auberry were married 3 Dec 1884 in Washington Co. I am having trouble tracking them through the censuses, but from what I have found they had children Treasy (abt 1889), Ida (abt 1898 I think she married Charles Wilson), Wesley (abt 1901), Parmer (abt 1904), and William (abt 1907).

After more research, Theresa Auberry's parents may have been John and Martha Auberry. On the 1900 Nelson Co. KY census, they are listed as the Abbery family and there is a child named Tarasey (Theresa?) born in 1886. Please post any information you may have about Theresa Auberry.

When looking through the Kentucky death records (1852-1953) for Auberry, there was a match for Thomas Auberry, but said female. I checked it out and it wasn't Thomas at all, it was Theresa Auberry. My heart went out after I read the death certificate--she was from Nelson Co. and died in Central State Mental Hospital in Louisville in 1920. She was 34 years old. They had no record of any family listed for her, and it looks like she may have been buried there where the hospital was located (?). She is not in any of my Auberry names for Washington or Nelson County, KY, and was wondering if anyone has any information about who her parents/siblings were? She was born about 1886. Also, I sent an email today asking ancestry.com to correct the name in the search from Thomas to Theresa. I have looked on census records and cannot find her listed anywhere with any Auberry family (unless I overlooked it).

I don't have Francis Auberry in any of my records, but if he was in Washington Co. KY with the same last name, I'm sure he was related to Wesley Auberry somehow. Sorry!

I am looking for information on Francis Auberry/Aubrey and Elizabeth Kendrick (widow of George Humphrey) of Washington County, KY. Elizabeth's father was William Kendrick (d. 1824). I know that Francis & Elizabeth had a son named Gabriel. Is Wesley Auberry that you listed, related to Francis and Elizabeth?

Does anyone have information on this family? Wesley Auberry b. 1805 in VA to Samuel Auberry ?. They moved to Washington Co. KY and settled there. The name Auberry was changed to Avery in some parts of the family, not sure why. I am stuck on Samuel. Thanks!

I am interested in finding out the parents of Thomas Auberry of LaClede County, Missouri. He was married to Lora Bryan. One of his children was Lottie Maude (or Maude Lottier, possibly) Auberry who married Tucker Munro Philips. Tuck also had two other wives and was half Cherokee, I believe. There may have been a "boarder" living with the Auberry family named Veda Wrinkle who may or may not have been from la Clede County, MO. She may have been of mixed ancestry although she was listed as "white" and ten years old in a census.

If any of these names ring a bell, let me know and I will provide what little I know, dates and sources etc. I am writing from memory as I don't have access to records at the moment.

Hi Cereta - My name is Jake Sanderson and my great-great grandfather was Elijah Auberry. I am 11 years old and live in Montgomery, Alabama. My Dad is in the army.

My grandfather was James Sanderson and my grandmother is Dorothy Frances Auberry Sanderson, daughter of Andrew and Lillie Auberry. Andrew was the son of Elijah.

I don't really know much about Elijah but I have heard that he was shot and killed on the Auberry property in Sweetwater (near Hayesville) in the early 1900's. Elijah divided his property among his 7 children and my great grandfather, Andrew, lived on the property all his life. He died in the 1970's.

My grandmother, Frances, lives in Waynesville, NC. She is 81. My grandmother remembers John Lance, her first cousin, who married Ruth Rogers. My aunt, Judy Sanderson Smith, may be able to tell you more. You can reach her at jsjcsmith@bellsouth.net.

Relation of North Carolina and Indiana Auberrys

Can anyone connect the Indiana Auberry family back to North Carolina? This is a rare name, perhaps a respelling of Aubrey, O'Berry, or something similar. We should be able to follow it back to the origin, if we pool resources.

I wrote the article on NC/GA Auberrys you referenced in 1970 Blue Ridge Summit Post . I'm afraid I can not list all I have on the family in this posting, but will happily exchange information.

The father of Jarrett Auberry was apparently the Thomas Auberry, who lived at the Virginia line in Surry Co., NC.

does anyone have info on Clara Auberry of Hardin Co Ky marrying a John Monin. their daughter was Daisy and married Sam Flowers. Daisy had a daughter Geraldine and son Jack. Geraldine married John P Rucker from Carter Co Ky around early "40's late 30's.John P is son of Grace Rucker,McDavid of Carter Co.

Thanks for your reply. I am the grandson of Andrew Auberry of Hayesville. My parents, Horace and Carolyn Auberry, are now living on the old Hayesville property. I can be reached at kent.auberry@smithmoorelaw.com.

As far as the living members of the NC branch of the Auberrys are concerned, the trail runs out at Jarrett or Thomas, and even the "home country" nationality of the Auberrys is unknown.

I have information that Mary Auberry, possibly a sister of your Rose Auberry, married into my ONeill/ONeil line.

Mary(Mollie) Auberry married Julian ONeill, son of James B. and Mary Louisa ONeil on January 9, 1899 in Daviess County, Indiana. They had a child Cleophus, born October 24, 1899. James B. ONeills parents were James ONeill and Johanna Fitzgerald

In the 1880 census, there are two Daviess County Auberry families that have a Mary Auberry and both families are candidates for your Rose Auberry.

In Barr Twsp. there is Charles Auberry, 26, born in Kentucky, wife Rosann Auberry, 24, born in Indiana, daughter Mary A. Auberry, age 2 and daughter Rosann Auberry age 4 months.

In Reeve Township, there is Wesley Auberry, 33, born in Kentucky, wife Armina, 25, born Kentucky, daughter Mary A., 8, born Indiana, daughter Kattie, 6, James, 5, William, 2, and Rosa, age 1.
Charles and Wesley are possibly brothers, so it should be possible to determine their parents in the 1860 census.
I do not have a birthdate for Mary so I am not sure which family is correct. Do you have an age for Rose?
Mary Auberry apparently did not have an easy life, her husband

Julian, a brakeman with the railroad, died in a railroad accident in Mitchell, Indiana, September 10, 1905. He fell off the top of the railroad car, where the brakeman rode and turned a wheel to apply brake pressure.
According to the newspaper article, the Railroad brought Julians wife and child to Mitchell, but he was already dead.

Joseph Auberry born in Virginia. Married Mary Prewitt of Kentucky in Kentucky in 1823. They Had Octavia, William, Charlot, Sarah, John, Thomas, Irvine, and Polly. They moved to Missouri where all but Octavia were born. Irvine's name was changed when he came to Oregon to Aubrey.

Just read your message today, I too am descendended from Samuel Awbrey, Awbry, Aubrey, Aubrerry, etc., through his son Craven; whose daughter Marriah married my gggrandfather George Washington Tetrick. Jarrett Auberry of Surry Co., NC, thought to be s/o Thomas Auberry (who lived just across state line in VA), m Susanna Cockerham, and had children: Elijah (m 1825 Polly Burrus); Elizabeth (m 1819 John Smith); William (m ca 1840 Martha Smith); Nancy (m 1834 William Cole Smith). Jarrett had sister, Micki who mar a Hodge. Other siblings not identified, but a Winnie Auberry/Aulsberry of Wilkes Co., NC (thought to be d/o Thomas or John Aulsberry) mar. Abraham Wiles about 1818.

William Palmer Auberry b 1891 md to Mary Walker
John Aubury md to Martha Collins
Margaret Melissa Auberry md to Floyd Walker
Ralph Aubury md to Mary F. Gootee

I'm not certain of the exact last name spellings as there seems to be several variations. They would have lived and died in the Washington, Marion, Nelson County areas.

I have nothing definite beyond Jarrett, I previously noted Micki as a sister, but she was more likely a daughter. A Thomas Auberry married Mary Hart in 1786 in Southampton Co., VA. Dates fit for this to be the Thomas Auberry living at the Surry Co., NC- Virginia state line in 1797. I have suspected Jarrett was from Virginia, but haven't been able to prove it. The Smiths came from Orange County, VA. The two Smith-Auberry, and the Auberry-Smith lines moved to Cherokee Co., NC/Fannin Co., GA area. I will happily exchange information.

Charles Milholland & Rose Auberry were married Dec. 7, 1909 Wells county, Indiana. They were living in Daviess County in 1910. In 1920 & 1930 they were living in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana with children; Bernard, Paul, Leo, Margaret, and Gertrude born Dec 1930. Charles died 1942 and is buried in St. Joseph Cemetery, Indianapolis. Rose is buried with him, but do not have a death date for her. Would like to find parents of Charles. Will be glad to share information!
