Hi,
My maternal great-grandfather was Constant Charles Aubert, born about 1865 in Neuchatel, Switzerland. He married Edith Ellwood and they resided in Pierce and Knox, Nebraska. He was a baker and a railroad conductor. Their daughter, Gladys Foerster Bals, was my maternal grandmother. I would love to see what you have about the Aubert's entry into the US from Switzerland. Thanks ahead of time.
Re: Philippe Aubert

My mother is an Aubert descended from Oren>Charles W. Aubert>George W. Aubert>Philippe Aubert.
Unfortunately, beyond George W. who according to census entries was born in WashDC or MD, we've never been able to find anything. George settled in Licking Co, OH, then moved to Sullivan Co., IL. His son Charles married in IL shortly after the CW and came here to Iowa. His son and daughter remained here - the other four children moved on to Washington state and Alaska.
Several of us have been searching for years for information on both George W. and Philippe.
My great-great Aunt Effie Aubert Irish (daughter of Charles W. Aubert) whom I knew until she died in 1952, was virtually the only source of information about the Aubert family. She's the one who mentioned the name Philippe and that he was supposedly from Alsace - possibly a mercenary in the Revolution. He seems to have disappeared in Ohio in Coshocton - however, no records exist that I've been able to uncover. My mother said that at one time Aunt Effie had a map marked with the village from which the Auberts originated. Well, that's disappeared!
Thanks so much.
Hi,

The best advice I can give you is to contact your local Family History Center. Type Family History Center in the "search the web" box at the top of this page, this will pull up a listing of similar topics - click on the one for Family History Centers and, hopefully, it show a listing of states, select yours and get the address of the center near you. Or else you can go to their websight at FamilySearch.org (type that in the "search the web" box), or look them up in the phone book. Anyway you do it, once you contact them, they will be able to help you get started much better than I can. The people at the center near me were great, but their hours and my hours stopped being the same and I don't live that close so I had to stop using their resources.
Let me know if can be of anymore help.
Tammy

Hi Pearl,

I might have a connection to your Joseph Aubert. My gr-grandmother was Mary (Aubert) Schreiner and she had younger siblings: Joseph, Peter, Katherine, Nicholas, and Anton. (She also had an older brother and sister, John and Margaret). All eight children were born in Chicago (1866 - 1887).
According to the 1920 census, Joseph (44) is living with Tillie (26), Joseph Jr. (16), Mary (15), Josephine (4 11/12), and George (3 2/12).
My gr-grandmother, Peter, Kate and Nicholas are all buried at St Joseph's Catholic cemetary in River Grove, Il.
I hope this is a connection and not pure coincidence.

Tammy

The Peter Aubert I mentioned was married to a woman named Julia (?). I got this information from the 1920 census and also from Peter's death record (he died in 1926, age 47 from a ruptured ulcer). They lived at 1819 Dayton St. in Chicago and he was a checker at the American Express Co.. I don't know if they had any children.
You might try getting the A163 Soundex for Illinois and see if any Aubert names ring a bell. That's how I did it - I focused on those in Cook County (most turned out to live in the same area around Dayton St. from 1880 to 1920.
Looking through my notes, I wrote down a Peter Aubert in enumeration district 162 in Chicago (1880 Census Index for Illinois). That might be a lead for you (unfortunately, I didn't write down any particulars).
Tammy

I will look at the records I have for Condrieu. I made copies of several microfilms when I was in Salt Lake City at the Family History Library. Condrieu is just south of Lyon in the Rhone district, if you are researching in France. There are some good web pages with lists of surnames being researched in the Rhone area. :http://www.chez.com/acrhone/cgw69/fc69somr.htm
http://www.chez.com/acrhone/
http://www.visit-rhone-alpes.com/
