Thank u for your reply. Need to pull the files but somehow think u may have the right family as a few cousins and I remember a Cordelia -at first thought she belonged to the DesForges side and eventually found she was an Aubry.
Had the wrong b.d. for Anna. Illinois Marriage Cert. lists her as Hannah - Death Cert. as Anna. Anna born in Canada, married Geo. Desforges in Chgo. Ill. had 16 children. One was my father.
Are u a Aubry relative? On the marriage cert. found a Ferdinand Fortier - not related to the DesForges and think to Anna.
Did great tracing my Grandfather's father and mother Tharsile (Phaneuf) but hit a birck wall traacing Gramps wife Anna. ------ Thank you again for your reply.
Maureen DesForges/Rossi

In your message of Nov 2008 you stated:
Do however have a copy of a baptisem of Abraham born Sept. 28th, 1862 his parents were Abraham and mother is Marie Loyer. St. Scholastique. My cousin found this in our Aunt's papers.
In this message you stated: mother's maiden name could have been Vallneuf

I do not know anything for sure. However, I did some looking using those two facts.
Abraham Aubry married to Marie Loyer had an earlier marriage to Arthemise Beauchamp in 1836. The couple had a son, Joseph, who married Josephine Villeneuve 28 Jan 1862 St-Jerome, Terrebonne. Joseph and Josephine had a daughter, Anna, born 1873 according to the census:
1881 CENSUS:
Joseph AUBRY M Male French Canadian 42 Quebec Hotellier Catholique
Josephine AUBRY M Female French Canadian 37 Quebec Catholique
Ernestine AUBRY Female French Canadian 18 Quebec Catholique
Romuald AUBRY Male French Canadian 16 Quebec Catholique
Anna AUBRY Female French Canadian 8 Quebec Catholique
Cordelia AUBRY Female French Canadian 6 Quebec Catholique
Ivonne AUBRY Female French Canadian 3 Quebec Catholique
Eugenie AUBRY Female French Canadian 1 Quebec Catholique
Source Information:
Census Place Ste-Jerome, Terrebonne, Quebec
Family History Library Film 1375859
NA Film Number C-13223
District 94
Sub-district K
Page Number 16
Household Number 70

You said that your Anna was born about 1877. But she would have been a bit young to marry in 1891, although it did happen. That is all I was able to find.

Chris
My grandmother was Hannah or Anna Aubry from Canada who married Geo. Desforges in 1890 in Chicago. Had a brother -do not know his first name - he had a wife that was killed in a train wreck in Chicago and the papers only gave her name as Mrs. Aubry. Living in Blue Island, Ill. Next town to the So. Side of Chicago - Know for certain she was our Anna/Hannah sister in law.
Maureen DesForges/Rossi

Hope we can help each other. Looking for the parents of Hannah or Anna Aubry. Born in canada - married George Desforges 1890 in Chicago, Illinois. Had 16 children - died in 1923 buried in Mt. Olivet Cementary - Chicago. On her death cert. gave only the last names of her parents -
Aubry, father and her mother's maiden name could have been Vallneuf or whatever - hard to make out the writing. Thought I could find her Birt Cert. Drouin - no luck
Maureen
Julia, wife of Derrick Lynch, was nee Juliana Johanna Stockman - married 6 Feb 1820 at Trinity Episcopal Church, Newark - born 1795 Albany Co. NY. Her mother, Carolina (Reiche) Stockman later lived with the Lynch family in Newark after the father, Justus Christian Stockman, died in 1827 in Newark. She was not related to the Aubrys as far as I know.

Dear John:
Wow!! Pardon me while I use both hands to close my mouth! To say that I got more of a response than I ever hoped for is an understatement of gigantic proportions. THANK YOU! The little bit of information I have on Rosalie I got from her death record; father, Samuel and mother; ? McDonald and a daughter-in-law. I do not know who provided the information at her death. Moses was already dead, so I assume it was one of her children. I don't know why they were so misinformed, unless it had something to do with a relationshipe she might have had with those people. In his later years one of her sons, Moses, hired a professional to research the Bassett name, perhaps he should have included the Aubreys in that search. (I never saw that research; it is in the hands of a daughter, whereabouts unknown to me) I learned a LONG time ago that the records sometimes aren't very accurate; different records on one individual will vary considerably and I have been lead astray more than once. Unfortunately, it is all I have. She died in 1941 and the few people I talked to about her didn't seem to know much of the facts, or they weren't forthcoming. I have one very poor snapshot of her in her later years. Thanks again, John. Someone did a lot of work researching this and I appreciate your willingness to share it.
Sincerely,
Barbara J. Bassett

Dear Will:
Thanks for your inquiry. I would respond no matter what; I like people to pay attention to my inquiries. I agree that it sounds like this is the same family. Save the information. I do not know how to contact John, except through this board. If you respond to HIS message, he will be notified and hopefully you can ask him for an address or something. I have done that with others in the past. From the information John gave me I gleaned 6 generations and about 7 family groups, however sketchy they are it gives me a place to start. I am disappointed in the record keeping; lots of errors, mostly because people didn't know the facts about their families; spelling, etc.
Good luck in your searching.
Sincerely,
Barbara J.
Aubry or maybe Ony, or onery or auvry?

Noe Cazalet, a Huguenot refugee, and his wife, Elizabeth Ony, had five children baptised in the French Church in New York. Recently, someone suggested two other spellings: Onery and Auvry. Could this be the same Aubry family? The children were born between 1711 and 1717. Other members of the church with similar names were Esaye (Isaiah?) Onery and Frederique Auvry. There was also a Frederica Ony, a godmother at a baptism in the French church in 1759.
Can you help me

Well you never know. I know that I am related to a Charles Phillippe Aubry who under Napoleon was sent here and he was the last French acting Governor of Louisiana and at the time of the signing of the Louisiana purchase he was on his way back to Beaudreaux France and got in a ship wreck and died. Also, there are Aubrys who did art work for Napoleon and their work is in the Louvre in France. Most likely your mom is related to me distantly. Would you mine sharing your info? Send it to aaubry@scoe.org. Thanks, Angela

Do you know who Esther Veler's parents were? My gg grandparents were Francis and Louise Veler (nee Bodi) of Toledo. French Canadians, b. in old Mominee cemetery in Oregon twp. (no markers now exist) Had ll children. I would like to learn the parents and siblings of Francis Veler b. about 1830, MI. I think name may have been anglicized from Villers dit St. Louis. One of their children was named Dominic Villers. Would like to share information if you know anything about Esther Velers family. Thanks

Well, I don't know about the Aubrys you talked about, but I am related to some Aubrys in France (in the 1500s) on my mother's side, and it just so happens that my mom is from New Orleans! I don't know if that's relevant, but I thought that was interesting.

There are many differant forms of the Aubry name, and most of it is becouse when people migrated to this country, they were asked there names. the names were written in the books by people that usually couldn't spell good, so they sounded out the names and wrote it as it sounded to them. Once your papers had that name on them you were stuck with it from then on. My family comes from Tecle Cornelious Aubrenan who migrated to Canada from france, and to france from Ireland (O'brennan) So you can see there are many variations just in my liniage.
