Donald G. Auerbach, 86,
of East Springfield, Pa., died peacefully Tuesday evening, January 11, 2011 at Fairview Manor. Don was born in Wesleyville, Pa. on November 22, 1924, the son of the late William and Mildred (Sherman) Auerbach. Don retired from the G.E. Base Plant in Conneaut, Ohio and decided that retirement was boring, so he went to work for NAPA in Girard as a Parts Delivery person, where he worked there for another 15 years. He had also worked at the Model Works in Girard. In his spare time, Don enjoyed playing his guitar and singing. He took up fishing after he retired and also always enjoyed mowing his lawn. He liked to play cards and in his earlier years, he played baseball in the County Baseball League for many years.
Besides his parents, Don was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce Auerbach; and three sisters, Maxine Lindner, Evelyn Holton, and Madora Mason. Don is survived by his wife, Betty J. (Gruzoski) Auerbach; and a daughter, Janice L. Auerbach, and her companion, Kerry Kondrit, of Fairview, Pa. Don is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Family and friends may call at the Jean Evans Thompson Funeral Home at 11883 Main St., East Springfield, Pa. on Friday, January 14, 2011 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Life Celebration Services on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Ed Glover, officiating of the Urban Impact Pittsburgh Foundation. Burial will be at Springfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Memory of Don to the Springfield Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 76, East Springfield, PA 16411, or to the Urban Impact Foundation, 801 Union Place, 4th Floor, Pittsburgh, PA 15212.
