Sorry, I believe that would be the same person. I know it was St. Louis and that one of the Aufderheide was a minister. I heard through my mother that Susan lived with them but we have no details as to why she was. I did not know that Otto was a doctor. Thanks for that detail. I'll continue my research.

A little more information would be helpful. When you are speaking of the residence on E Grand, in what locality are you speaking—what city and state? In checking the 1910 Census, I find an Otto Aufderheide, age 32, a physician living in St. Louis, Missouri with his wife Florence, age 25, living on John Avenue. If this is the city you are referring to, my guess is that he was the attending physician.

Hi, My name is Linda Lawson. My Great-great Grandmother, Susan Sutherland lived with or worked for the Aufderheide family. Otto Aufderheide signed her death certificate 11 Aug 1911. Wondering if anyone has details about that situation, wondering if she was adopted by the Aufderheide family. I have addresses of 1578 and 1518 E. Grand as residences of Aufderheide's that signed the death certificate. Any light you can shed on this would be greatly appreciated.

I am always curious to see the locations of villages on a map, so I looked up both Rahden and Sharnbeckstobel in my German atlas. There are no place names in Germany that start with "Sh", so I checked out other possible names in Meyers Gazetteer of the German Empire, available free online at ancestry.com, and found that the correct spelling should be Scharmbeckstotel, located in Kreis Osterholz in Hannover. I have attempted to attach a map with further explanations, which shows its location as well as Rahden and church records that are available for these two locations through the Family History Library in Salt Lake City. If you can not open this attachment, contact me at gdboock@pressenter.com and I will forward the map to you.

Adolph/Rudolph Aufderheide in the line that I have traced, settled in Cincinnati, but did not have any sons; only three daughters who survived to adulthood. His half-brothers went to New Ulm, MN. I am not a member of ancestry.com, so can not access your family tree database.

I have done a great deal of research on the surname Johann auf der Heide in Westphalia and in particular in Lengerich - Ringel, Lienen-Kattenvenne. In the Middle Ages three brothers settled in Kattenvenne, one being Johann settled on the Heide (heather) and when surnames came into use, his name became Johann auf der Heide or Johannaufderheide. There are at least three families in Germany, who descend from this early family who still use the Johann as part of their surname. When descendants of this early family immigrated to the US, the surname became Aufderheide. Some settled in Cincinnati and others in Indiana and some left Cincinnati and removed to New Ulm, Minnesota. If this sounds like your family, I have a great deal of information.

Hey, that's great! I am a direct descendant of auf der Heide. My foremother was Magdalena Catherina Auf Der Heide. My grandfather used to tell me that his mother used to write letter to cousins in Germany but had to be cut off due to WW1. All our contact with German Auf Der Heide has been lost.

By the way there was an AFL player by that name playing for local team Central Districts from South Australia.

For many years I have been trying to find out more about my German root.

Thank you for posting this on and keep on adding more info.

Proud to be a German Australian from South Australia.

My Aufderheides were in New Jersey. I have been researching them for years and now believe that Charles Frederick Aufderheide was from the Bielefeld area of Westfalen. He was born about 1840, parents and siblings not known, and arrived in the US prior to 1870. He lived in Manhatten until 1888 and died in Hudson Co., NJ in 1899. He married Caroline Phillipia Luise (Louise)Zangeberg Dieckhaus whose first husband was Wilhelm Dieckhaus. Charles Frederick (also called Carl) was a watchmaker.

Please keep me in the loop on any Aufderheide discoveries!

She married my great-grandfather, Claus Heim. I don't know much about her, but I do have pictures. Please keep me in mind when you correspond with the researchers who are working on the Aufderheide families. Thanks very much.

He came to Cleveland, OH in 1856 with children Louisa,(who married H H Benhoff) Casper H. Aufderheide Jr.,b.1835, and Elizabeth, b.1843(married Christian Walker). I believe the dentists in Cleveland are des. of Casper Jr. He was married to Mary Clara Bente and had 8 children. Several of his sons were dentists. I have more info on children if you are interested.

Was son Thomas married to Mary Brennan or Eliza Fleet?? Or both as I suspect as Mary died before marriage to Eliza?

What other info do you have on Thomas Augustus Cutting?? Birth, marriages, death dates etc?

And yes please, what have you got on John Theodore Cutting and his family. I only have his marriage and children, but nothing else. Also when did John become St.?

Feel free to email me at diaspinall@hotmail.com

Many thanks, Di

The name of my gr gr grandfather is Bernard Aufderheide. He married my gr gr grandmother Minnie (last name unknown maybe Damden)

I have that Bernard was born in June 1852 from the 1900 census with my gr gr grandmother Minnie. The census was hard to read however so I could be wrong on the month. It says he was born in Ohio in 1852 but it also says he imigrated to the US in 1880? Someone was confused I think. It also says my gggrandmother Minnie immigrated in 1881. They were married in 1886 but I am not sure where.

Does your Bernard have a wife named Minnie or do you know?
