As a boy and a youth, James McMahon attended the public schools, in the meantime being well drilled in the various branches of general farming. Beginning life as a wage-earner, he worked in the lumber camps and in saw mills for a while, afterwards becoming a fireman on the Pere Marquette Railroad, and later being employed in rafting logs down the Saginaw river. In 1884 he came to Baraga county, and for a year was in the employ of the Nester estate. Embarking then in business on his own account, Mr. McMahon opened a dispensary, and also engaged in the lumber business, continuing in both lines of industry until elected judge of probate, a position which he still holds.

Mr. McMahon married, in 1886, Annie Auge, who was born in Baraga, a daughter of John and Elizabeth Auge, natives, respectively, of France and England. Eight children have blessed the union of Mr. and Mrs. McMahon, namely: James F., Thomas C, William, Helen, Frank, Charles, Elizabeth, and Martha. Mrs. McMahon passed to the life beyond June 17, 1904.

Mr. McMahon is an unswerving Republican in polities, and has served as judge of probate since 1902, having been re-elected in 1904, and in 1908. He is now clerk of the village of Baraga; has been secretary of the Baraga Board of Education the past fifteen years: and has served as postmaster of Baraga for seven years.

Hello, I have a Wilhelm Auge in my family. He was an athiest not a minister, and a not very happy man, but I think all the Prussia Auge families are connected somehow. My father once traced the Auge family back about 500 years in Germany and before that they probably migrated from France...The problem is , He never wrote down what he discovered when he went to Germany after WWII. I am still trying to find my great grandfather Karl Auge's family. He was born in Riemke, Germany around 1840,possibly earlier, but I don't have an exact birth date. He was married to a Marie Schneider.I have their place of marriage. I have contact with a man in Germany who has a mother who married into the Auge family. We are connected but still trying to find the exact links. I will add your Wilhelm Auge to the search too. Everywhere I have searched so far I have hit brick walls...I find lots of Auge records, but no way to connect them to my Karl.My tree is a public tree so you can see what I have so far....I will gladly email you any other Auge records I have found in case it helps you with your search. I wish my Auge had been the minister.... my great Grandfather Karl was married in a Catholic church. I got those records from the LDS Family Search site. The earliest record I have found for an Auge in France was a man known as Holy Auge. There were lots of French Auges. some were even knights...We have an Auge who was Mayor of Recklinghausen, Germany, who was the grandson of my Karl.

I am seeking information regarding the family of my great-grandfather, the Reverend Wilhelm Auge, (probably b. 1845 Lithuania, East Prussia, Margrabowa). His parents may have been Gottfried Auge and Lotta Alexi. His children definitely were Maria (b. 1904), Emma, Augusta, and Anna and perhaps others. I have no information on his spouse. He was an Evangelical minister from a German family that had settled a few generations before him in Lithuania (then known as OstPreussen or East Prussia). thank you.

I am looking for members of these families who lived in Tuper Lake New York. The graves of the LaPrades are in the same plot as David Oshier. Oral family history says that Rose L Laprade
was Native American but we aren't sure of her maiden name. Only that she was born in Canada and married Napoleon LaPrade.
Any help would be appreciated.
Not sure if we are related, but, I have great-grandpa Alfred (Fred) Mingo and Marie (Mary) Celine Picard Mingo buried in Little Canada, Minnesota.
She was born April 21, 1872 in Fort Dodge, Iowa and was a Blackfoot Indian. (I've been told) She died February 15, 1952.

Marie (Mary) Celine Picard's mother's name was Lucille Auge.
I have found Marie's brother and sister's names, David, Emily, and Agnus. Maybe your Agnus was my Marie's sister?

Would sure like to see any more information on this family!
You may email me at rakosterman@yahoo.com.
Thanks!

Re: Little Crow--Hayoka

Little Crow's lineage is in Anderson's book and also available on the internet. I believe I found it on Ancestry.com.

Isabelle Wakeman (b.1830; m.1840), was the wife of Little Crow, mother of Emma (b.@1844), mother of Jane Williams (b.1849), mother of "daughter of Little Crow" who married Heyoka (Clown). It is possible that "daughter of Little Crow" shared the name "Heyoka" but the years do not appear to align with the person you mentioned.

Isabelle's father's name, I believe was Tasagye and his father's name was Inyangmani (Running Water). I think that her brothers were Peter Tapetanka and Henok Appearing Cloud and therefore are connected to Wa-pa-Sa (Wabasha).
They had son, Frank McMahon (b 9/9/1896).

On Annie's death record (6/16/1904, age 35, 10 m, 6 days) it has her parents listed as:
Elizabeth Daniels
John Auge.

Do you have any dates for this generation or do you have Elizabeth or John in your listing anywhere?

I just started at ancestry.com. I had a very detailed family tree from my father, Bob Brown, chairman of the mendota dakota mdewakanton community. He died in in Aug 2003. anyway. I can trace back to Little Crow's sister Mary who married Joseph Renville, their daughter married Hypolite Dupuis. Both Joseph and his daughter Angelique (Agelica) signed the Treaty with the Traverse Des Sioux in 1841. I will have to get that book. A friend, P. Ironnecklace who is Lakota but shares many ancestors with me through the sisseton. She told me of a new book being released.
Help me find out who this woman is. We are trying to find if we are native ancestory or not

I am hoping some one will be able to help me. Last year my uncle was able to recieve his native status. However, due to him using the privacy act, he will not tell any of us how he obtained his information, so my cousin and I have been searching trying to find information. But now we have exhausted all our search engines.
I have two names here hoping someone could give me a background on these two ladies, and hopefully will know more about them, since their is not much on this website.
The first one is a woman by the name of eloise auge(r). She was married to a man by the name of Jules Cailler. This man is my great great grandfather. All we know about her is that she and Jules were married on Jan 9 1866 in St Liguori Quebec and she would die in St. Melanie Quebec.
The second one is a woman named Amanda Blais. She would marry my great grandfather Phileas Oscar Cailler on Sept 8 1897 in St Jean Baptiste in Lowell Mass, and then they would move back to Canada. This is all the information we have one her. Please if anyone who would know anything please email me at janinecaillier@hotmail.com.
I purchased the book Lone Oak Years from the City of Eagan (MN) several years ago. I don't think it's on line. You may try to get the address/telephone number of Eagan's municpal building from Dakota Couny's web site or maybe Eagan has its own web site.

Dosite Sr. had no children named Eugene. His 5 sons were:

Dosite, Jr.(b. 1828), Treffle (b. 1828), George (b. 1834), Joseph (b. 1836), James (b. 1838), and daughter Camille

The book has no sons named Eugene for:
Dosite Jr. (Omer, Louis, Alphonse, Edmund and 2 daughters)
George (George Edward, Joseph S. and 5 daughters (2 sets of twins)
Treffle (Bruno, Emil, James, Alfred and 4 daughters (1 set of twins)
James. (Henry, Oliver, Ernest and 4 daughters)
No children are listed for Joseph who had 10 children.

Treffle had a daughter named Eugenia (b. 1857) who was my father's godmother. Eugene is a name in my family for 3 generations.

It's possible that your ancestor (more likely a grandson of Dosite Sr considering the birth dates) is either the son of James or one of Joseph's children or Eugene could be a middle name.

VA

According to "Lone Oak Years, A History of Eagan, Minnesota" (please see my previous e-mail with more of this book's information on this familyl)

Joseph was the 4th son of Dosite Auge and Julie Beaudet

"Joseph married Louise Dupuis, born January 10, 1841. She was the daughter of Hypolite and Angelique Dupuis and a niece of the Indian Chief Little Crow. They had ten children. Joseph died Oct. 10, 1910; Louise died Feb. 7 1918. Both are buried in St. Peter's Cemetery" Mendota Heights, MN (my addition).

Hope this helps. Joseph is my great uncle in-law as his brother Treffle married my g grandmother's sister, Dulisse Cinq-Mars Guillet. I believe all the Auges of this generation (except daugther Camille who died in Winnepeg, Canada) are buried on the Auge plot at St. Peter's

Thanks so much for posting this much of the Minnesota Auge history. I believe my great-grandfather was a son of one of Dosite/Dosithe/Dominique(?) Auge, Sr.'s sons. Could you post the rest of the listing of two pages? My great grandfather, Eugene Auge b. Oct 1859 MN married about 1883 MN to Mary Elizabeth Josephine Labay/Labbe/Labey b. Mar 1864 MN, daughter of Thomas and Elenore/Ellinora/Eleonore Lemay/Lamay. I have searched for the Lone Oak Years because it probably has much more info on my family branches. Is it posted on the web?
Hope to hear from you soon.

Re: Joseph Dosithe Auger

The following information is from a history of Eagan, Minnesota, entitled "Lone Oak Years."

"Auge

The Auge family originally came from Lotbiniere County, Quebec. This branch is decended from Jean Auger dit LeBaron and Louise Grisard, both born in 1623.

Dosite Auge, son of Joseph Auge and Marie-Francoise (nee Auger) was born near Lotbiniere. On January 10, 1826, he married Julie, daughter of Joseph Beaudet and Barbe Belanger. They had six children:

Dosite Jr b. 1828
Treffle b. 1828 d. August 13, 1922 (married my great aunt)
George b. Dec. 14 1834 d. 1917
Joseph b. Oct. 11, 1836 d Oct. 10, 1910
James b. July 25, 1838 d. May 15, 1918
Camille d. Winnepeg, Canada

Following Julie death (pre 1843), Dosite, Sr. married Marie-Elizabeth, daughter of Francois Houde and Francoise Boucher, on Feb. 20, 1843 at Lothbiniere.

In 1850, the Auges were commercial fishermen in Sheboygan, WI. In 1852 they moved to Mendota, MN. In spring 1853, Dosite, Sr. claimed land on the south side of section 4 of Eagan Twonship. He remained there until his death on Dec. 22, 1871; he is buried in St. Peter Cemetery, Mendota, MN." It's possible that he died in Dakota County, the county for Mendota, rather than in St. Paul, MN which is located in Ramsey County.

There are two more genealogy pages listing the wives and children of Dosite Sr. and Julie Beaudet. Also has pictures of the 6 children and Treffle's stone 2 story house.

Hope this information helps. I have the ancestry of my great aunt Dulisse Cinq-Mars Guillet Auge (wife of Treffle Auge) back to Pierre Guillet if anyone is interested.

VA
