My Dear Cousin Janet,

I understand your curiosity, and I would give you all of the support that I can... however, I suggest that you speak about this website with Julie first. She and I were communicating for a short while, before she decided to end our relationship abruptly. All of the information that I have been able to find about our ancestors has been provided to her.

I will keep you and yours in my prayers, dear Cousin.

Suzanna (First born child of your Uncle Bob)

I haven't seen Alfons Helfrich's book, but I knew some of what he discovered, such as the origin in Picardie of the Raquet and Augustin families, If you have the book, do you know what other families of Fehrbach came from Picardie?
Thank you
Jerry

Ross,

I'm sorry that this took so long for me to answer you. I never knew that you posted here until now (I found this one post by accident).

I use the "e" at the end of Augustin because our earliest immigrant ancestor, George Augustine, spelled his name that way. The "E" has been dropped (for unknown reasons) from the family name over the years since then. But when George Augustine married Geneviva Wagener, he spelled his name with an "e" at the end. This suggests that it was spelled this way in Germany before he came to Illinois.

My father is your father's brother. I have had some limited corrospondence with Julie but she abruptly (and without explaination) stopped responding to my emails some time ago. She indicated to me that none of my cousins ever knew of my existence.

Although I am shaking my head in dismay, I cannot say that I am surprised. You and your siblings were the lucky ones... you got the responsible brother for your father. I am not surprised that my father never told you about me or his marriage to my mother. I am confident that he never told my little brother, Alex, about me either (although he told me about Alex when I was 13 yrs. old and Alex was a new baby).

I have no doubt that Julie has listened to the wise counsel of her mother and chosen to continue the family tradition of shunning me. I advise you to do the same. If you continue to try to contact me then you run the risk of your family shunning you as well! Although as a child I did feel a strong kinship to you and your siblings (as my cousins and paternal family) I am an adult now. Julie and her mother no longer have the power to make me cry.

Take care of yourself, dear Ross. And if you have the chance, please tell Amy that I love her.

Suzanna

Augustin(e) brothers from Sweden to St Paul

I am looking for descendants of three brothers of my gg-grandmother who came to America from Sweden. I believe they settled in St Paul, Minnesota, and at least one or two of them took the name Augustine or Augustin. They were Nels Åkesson Augustine, b. Nov 5, 1855, Trued (Frank?) Åkesson (Augustine?) b. Nov 9, 1847 and Måns Åkesson Pearson b.March 13, 1851.

Nels Augustine married Johanna Eriksson (Jennie) b. 1869, and had at least three children: Nellie* Paulina b. June 3, 1887, Hildegard* Eugenia b. Sep 2, 1890 and Frans Mauritz* b. Oct 4, 1893. In 1900 the family lived in St Paul, MN, but in 1920 Jennie, Hildegard and Mauritz lived in California.

I know Hildegard married Carl Friberg b. 1887 and that she died Feb 26, 1962 in Oakland CA. They had a son, Carl Friberg b. May 2, 1912 in Alameda Co, CA.

Nels Augustine's brother Trued Åkesson MIGHT be Frank Augustine, who married Anna Charlotta b. 1856. They had the following children: Frederick L b. 1883 in MN, George A b. 1884 in MN, and Elna or Ellenor b. Jan 1891.

Elna or Ellenor married Allen Metcalf b. ca 1895 in North Carolina. The family lived in St Paul, MN. One son was Ralph Leonard Metcalf, b. Feb 19, 1910, d. Sep 28,1980 in Hennepin Co.

Other children were Janelle or Jeanette b. ca 1912, Ferman b. ca 1917, Rosalie b. ca 1924, Lillian b. ca 1926 and Allen b. ca 1930.

The third brother may have taken the name Pearson after his father, and was living with his brother Nels Augustine. He was unmarried at that time.

If you know of any descendants, and if you are interested in their ancestry, please write!
Cecilia

Thanks for your message, Malcolm. My own Raquet ancestors originated in Picardie, near Amiens, in the northeast of France. They migrated with several other
families from there to a part of Germany just east of
the Saar region, in the late 17th Century. The region to
which they migrated had been depopulated by the
Thirty Years' War, (1618-48), and the French under Louis
XIV occupied it in 1673. The first Raquet ancestor that I
know of was Jacques, whose name became "Jacob" in Germany, and who lived at Fehrbach, south of Kaisers-
lautern, in 1680.
In 1970 I visited parts of Germany, Alsace and Lorraine.
My French ancestors, including Raquet, Augustin and
Charron, were Catholic, but I know that some Raquets
were Huguenots. Please tell me more about your family.
Jerry Baker e-mail: glbaker50613@yahoo.com

I appreciate very much the information about the Augustin and Raquet families of Fehrbach, since one of my paternal great-great-grandmothers was Catherine Raquet. Also, I think I am related to the Augustin family of Lakota, Iowa, in Kossuth County. (That village, originally named "Germania," had its name changed during WWI.) One of my classmates at Iowa State University had the surname "Augustin," too, although at that time I didn't realize we might be related.
I'm also related to the Helfrich family, and am interested in that book by Alfons Helfrich, too.

I wonder where in the Saarland. My Baker ancestors, (named "Becker" in Germany), came from south of Kaiserslautern in the Rhein-Pfalz, around Kreis Pirmasens. In 1680, 2 of the 6 families that lived in the village of Leimen were Beckers. Leimen is east of the Saarland.
Near Leimen, was Fehrbach,a Catholic village of people with French names, one of which, Raquet, is an ancestral one of mine. Another name of one family there was "Augustin."
Around 1920, when one of my relatives in Cresco, Iowa died, one person who attended the funeral was an Augustin, from a village named "Germania," in Kossuth County, Iowa. (The name of that village was changed to "Lakota" in WWI.) I don''t know how I am related to that Augustin, but more important I wonder where the Augustines of Fehrbach came from. Jerry Baker. e-mail: glbaker50613@yahoo.com

Augustin ancestry from Baden, Germany

I am researching the following AUGUSTIN line:

Mathias & Appollonia AUGUSTIN from Schiffeldinger(?), Bavaria about 1650. Their son, Melchior was born ca. 1673. He married Anna Christina RAUTENBUSCH in 1705 Obrigheim, Baden, GERMANY. Melchior died 10 Mar 1738 in Obrigheim.

Melchior & Anna Christina AUGUSTIN had a son, Johan Peter who was born 14 Sep 1714 in Obrigheim. He married 14 Jul 1739 in Obrigheim, to Maria Eva REGENSBURGER and he died 16 Sep 1796 in Obrigheim.

Johan Peter & Maria Eva AUGUSTIN had a daughter, Eva Barbara who was born 5 Jan 1750 in Obrigheim. She was married 24 Sep 1776 in Obrigheim to Johan Georg BANSCHENBACH.

The AUGUSTIN line ends there. If you can tie into this line or add to it, I would be happy to exchange information.

Thanks
Vince Miller.
http://www.recordranch.com/genealogy/ahnentaf.htm#151

I am in the same boat with you! MY dad bailed out on us when I was just a baby, and I never got to know him, or his family. I sent so many letters, and cards, just begging them to acknowledge me. (sigh) Now my grandparents are dead... how do I know? I found out thru the Social Security Department.

If you have a birth record that proves that he is your father, you can find out SOME information from the military. Go to this link: http://www.nara.gov/regional/stlouis.html
You will have to fill out a form, and I included a copy of my birth record, just in case. I bet they can tell you a few things, like where he was born, what his parents names were, what his religion is, stuff like that. You never know where that kind of information might take you. It's a start, anyway.

Good Luck, Suzanna

Wisconsin Augustin(e)s

I am trying to trace back a Paul Ignatius Augustin(e) to Wisconsin in the early 1800s. He lived in St. Croix County around 1850 and Grant County in 1860. In this time period there were many Augustin(e)s in Wisconsin. Does anyone know the major families that immigrated into Wisconsin and their makeup? I figure Paul was a relative of someone. Anyone know if Augustus was the original name of any of these Augustin(e)s?
