Trying to get further with the Aulds in Northumberland, got as far as James born Wallsend 1778 - his death certificate 1859 puts him at 80. I think his parents might be Thomas Auld and Isabel Waddle, married at Newburn in 1770. If anyone has info on this line it would be great - can share what info I've got.

Re: Auld family in Morpeth Northumberland UK

James Auld of Morpeth, Northumberland, a yeoman, married Mary Sayer, a spinter of Crossgate in the chapelry of St.Margaret, Durham City, by licence in 1818. Surety was offered by William Scales, gentleman of Durham City. Both were aged 21 (or over) The marriage was witnessed by Hannah Perry, William Peele.

Is this the James Auld, Ostler of Darlington, who died in 1849 - there is the prerog of a James Auld of darlington dated March 1851 believed to relate to this man though I have not seen the documentation, held at the Borthwick. Also, is this the same couple who settled in Darlington and had several children. That James was described there as an Ostler before his death in 1849.

The 1861 census finds the widowed Mary Auld with her grown family - Elizth Auld 42, Thos Auld 32, Mary Auld 29, James Auld 24, Sarah Auld 21, and a visitor, Margt Howe 24. This is likely to be the Mary Auld whose death was registered the following year.

My interest is in Mary Sayer, though I am not certain who she is yet. Can you provide any further information to verify the above?

Kind regards

laurel Sayer

Hi everyone.

Please help! Does anyone recognise the man in the below photo? *If I had my way, he'd be John. Husband of Amelia/Emily. But I doubt it. You tell me..

I already know, he's NOT my Grandad, "Archibald Stewart Auld" b.1923 (Scotland) d.2000 (New Zealand) but I swear, he is the spitting image of him.
How are they related if they are??
I found this photo randomly on the net somehow (goodness knows how) a while back, and simply saved a copy due to the striking resemblance! It gave no details though..

Also, can anyone confirm WHO "Archibald Stewart Auld" parents were?
(my mum thinks John & Amelia/Emily are his parents.. however, it can't be possible, quite simply, NEITHER John OR Amelia/Emily were alive still in 1923! aarrgghh)

* I know that Amelia died (along with a lot of the 12 kids!) in 1889, and then John remarried in 1894 to Margaret Wright d.1928 which would make her a more probable fit..!! However, suprise suprise NO Archibald kids mentioned anywhere.

Help!

*Archibald m. Helen Yeaman b. 1923, 6-7 children: Anne, Christine, Heather, John, Trudi, Sandra/Lynn, Linda..

*My mum is Anne b.1947 was born in Dundee, Scotland..

*We all live in New Zealand or were living in New Zealand..

GO THE ALL BLACKS!! xx

I have been reading fairly old (2005) postings re Grizel Stewart and John Auld who are in my family tree. There is nothing about Grizel's parents. I have found information (also passed down by family history lore) that Grizel was the granddaughter of King James V of Scotland. Does anyone have any information on that? She was married and died in County Down Ireland, but she had to have been born in Scotland if this is true. Their son William was the father of my relative Grace Auld (1803), wife of James Wilson (1803), my gggrandparents from Deersville, OH.
Thanks! Carole W.

http://www.defense.gov/releases/release.aspx?releaseid=13674

IMMEDIATE RELEASE	No. 571-10
July 02, 2010
Seven Missing WWII Airmen Identified

The Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office announced today that the remains of seven servicemen, missing in action from World War II, have been identified and will be returned to their families for burial with full military honors.

(See Link for Complete Release)

1st Lt. Joseph J. Auld, Floral Park, N.Y.;

were identified and all are to be interred July 15 in Arlington National Cemetery.

On May 23, 1944, the men were aboard a C-47A Skytrain that departed Dinjan, India, on an airdrop mission to resupply Allied forces near Myitkyina, Burma. When the crew failed to return, air and ground searches found no evidence of the aircraft along the intended flight path.

In late 2002, a missionary provided U.S. officials a data plate from a C-47 crash site approximately 31 miles northwest of Myitkyina. In 2003, a Burmese citizen turned over human remains and identification tags for three of the crew members.

A Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command team excavated the crash site in 2003 and 2004, recovering additional remains and crew-related equipment—including an identification tag for Dawson.

Among other forensic identification tools and circumstantial evidence, scientists from JPAC and the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory also used mitochondrial DNA – which matched that of some of the crewmembers' families – as well as dental comparisons in the identification of the remains.

For additional information on the Defense Department's mission to account for missing Americans, visit the DPMO Web site at http://www.dtic.mil/dpmo or call 703-699-1169.

U.S. Department of Defense
Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Public Affairs)

********
Not related.
Hi,
do you have any further info? I have John Auld s/o John Auld s/o John Auld. Your John Auld father of Elizabeth could be any of these as I don't have a lot of information on siblings as yet. She could even be the sister of my g.g. grandfather John Auld b. 1828, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland, m. 1845 Amelia Young Parish of Glasgow, Kilmarnock, Scotland, immigrated to Australia in 1853, d. 1913 in Australia. I have his parents but no siblings that I know of. It's always a possibility!!!

Karen

I came across a reference in a 1930 article about a Seceder Presbyterian Church in East Finley or Morris Township of Washington County, PA indicating:

"In 1788 a group of Aulds, fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces and other relatives, a hundred or more together with a similar group of McKinleys, some of whom were bound by marriage to members of the Auld group, all from County Antrim, Ireland, chartered a ship and set sail for America. After a tumultuous voyage of seven months, they landed at the port of Philadelphia."

I firmly believe my Carroll clan and the Aulds were at least associated with each other and probably were from the same town in County Antrim.

Can anyone expound on this?

Does anyone out there share this story in their family history?

Thanks,

Lou
Thanks for the reply.

Just to be clear, I personally am not directly related to Aulds. My grandfather's sister married one. Within a few years, they seem to have parted and lived separate lives, so I suspected that if there was a descendent of that pair, they might not know much about their Carey line. So, I posted the message to give them a contact who could fill them in, if they exist and are interested.

There seem to have been Aulds all along that part of the Ayrshire coast for more quite a while but Tom Auld's family only moved there around the 1880s I believe.

Hi ,
My gggg grandfather, John Auld was born on February 8, 1776 in Androssan , Scotland. That is near Stevenston because the birth was registered in both places. My ancestors also went to Quebec Canada and then down to New York. John's father was James Auld who married Margaret Stevenson on April 11, 1763. Maybe the town was named for her family. Anyway I don't know if we are related. I am living in New York which is where the Aulds settled.

Their parents were Magnus Auld and Elizabeth Sutherland. I am still trying to build the family tree very slowly and there are a number of mysteries still to be solved. I am happy to share what I have found so far, but have only just gone back on Ancestry - a fuller tree is on Genes Reunited.
Best wishes Maureen Groom

Her name was Agnes (1859-1945). Her father was Archibald Auld(1835-1885), the first Auld in my direct line to come to Australia from Scotland. He had a brother James (1926-1906) he was born in Scotland and came here as well and i have it that he died in Ipswich QLD on the 5th of August. Would that be your James. Would love to hear from either of you if we can link our trees :) thanks.

James Auld b1778? of Wallsend, NE UK

Does anybody please have information on James Auld who was born about 1778, Wallsend, North East England? He married Isabella Gray and they had several children including Thomas, my ggg granddad. James is the earliest ancestor of mine that I know of and I would like to know his parents/siblings so I could get further back. I could share the info I have if anyone needs any more info themselves.
Thanks,
Chris

Pamela, this book is a lengthy genealogy of the descendants of David Auld. I will have time a bit later to see if the names you mention are in the book. Also you mention McKinney notebooks- could you tell me a bit more about that source. I ask because we were told that the Aulds and the McKinleys came on one ship from County Antrim-and I am wondering if were the McKinneys ???? although the David Auld book which is pretty well done says McKinley

Keep in touch S

Reconnecting David. I have you emails in my file form a few years ago--I do have the hard copy of David Auld of Antrim county.
