This is very interesting to me as I have no real knowledge of this side of my family. I have no pictures of my grandfather. If what you're saying is correct, then this makes you a distant cousin of mine. Possibly we could be in contact and actually talk...?

I recently retired and am now getting back in genealogy.
My husband is Glenn Aulds who is the great grandson of James H Aulds and Savannah McGough. What I have found out James H's father was James W Aulds from Sumter, Alabama. I have traced the family back to Ayshire, Scotland.

I would love to know if this is correct; and I would love any information on the Aulds family.

Thank you, Lanora Aulds

Yes, I sent V.L. some information on my Auld Line a few years ago. He was working on the second book at that time. I believe I have the information on Sarah's family, but I can't PROVE anything. It is all speculation at this point, but I keep trying, can't give up yet.

Here is what I believe:

Sarah's parents were Isham/Isom Johnston and his wife Mahaley Moderset/Morriset. Sarah and J.H. Auld named a Son Isham johnston Auld and the next child, a daughter, was named Mahaley Catherine Auld. I believe J.H. and Sarah Johnston married around 1860 or so.

I believe Sarah had a brother named John W. Johnston. He lived next door to J.H. and Sarah in Van Zandt Co TX in 1870. Both he and Sarah were born in GA. He also named 2 of his kids Mahaley and Isom. All the kids for both John and Sarah were born in LA until each had a child born in TX. John's was born in 1869 and Sarah's in 1870. I feel that they came to TX together in 1867 or 1868. Also 2 of John Auld's Nephews were in Anderson Co TX which is 2 Counties away from Van Zandt Co.

J.H. Auld sold land in Claiborne Parish to T.A. Glass in 1853. In the 1860 census, T.A. Glass is living next door to I. and M. Johnston in Claiborne Parish.

I realize this is not proof, but it seems to me to be just TOO MUCH to be all coincidence.

I hope some day, to tie all this together.

Thanks for your reply, Jo Cox

My husband, V. L. Auld, was the descendant of Thomas Reed Auld, born in 1852 in Louisiana and died in 1931 in Oklahoma. Thomas was the son of John Henry Auld.

John's first wife was Rebecca Ann Martin; his second wife, Sarah (last name unknown); third wife, Mrs. Martha A. M. Howell. Sarah's maiden name may have been Johnston; but he could not find documents for proof.

John Henry Auld descended from James Auld ((1665-1721). James was born in Ayr, Scotland, and died in Talbot County, Maryland.

My husband compiled two books on the Auld family, and copies are in several libraries in Oklahoma, Louisiana, North Carolina, and Maryland.

I ran across your post about John Henry Auld. I am searching for the same information, When first wife Rebecca died and when and where he married Sarah/Sallie. I believe Sarah's surname to be Johnston. Your post is from 2000, if you are still researching I would love to hear from you. How do you connect to John? His Son Isham Johnston was my Husband's Great Grandfather.

Jo

I am looking for living descendants of either of the above men. I am also trying to learn more about their father, Leonidas A. Aulds, b. 1870 and their step-father, Virgil A. Aulds, b.1873. I believe that Leonidas A. Aulds is my grandfather, Lonnie Aulds, b. abt 1870. Have not been able to firmly establish that they are one and the same. I have researched an extensive family tree predicated on them being the same person. Would be happy to share it with a responder.

Todd,
There is a slight possibility that I am related to your family. My Maternal grandfather was Lonnie Aulds, born in La. in 1871. I have been talking to Tim Hudson and he says that there is a reference to a Lonnie Aulds as the son of John Wyatt Aulds but I have been unable to confirm it. Would you happen to have any information on him? If he is from your family, I can probably fill in some blanks for you about his descendants. Pls respond to jadoakb@pine-net.com. I did a search for all "Aulds" in Louisiana and one of the names that surfaced was Elijah F. Aulds, (b 1848) and he was in Union, La. at the time of the census.

Hope this helps.

Jerry

The person who listed the children missed one other girl, my mother, Lillian Armstrong (Travis O.), who is the only remaining child and resides in Rocky Branch, LA (Union Parish). One of the boys, Lonnie Odell, served in the LA House of Reps from Shreveport, another, Henry L. Jr. has a library named after him in Bossier City due to his public work. If you are still interested in this lineage you can write me and I will have Mother trace them back as far as she can and return to you.
Fred Armstrong
335 Rocky Branch Rd
Farmerville, LA 71241

Hi,

I'm not sure about how we are related, but I can tell you some things about your lineage. The Auld(s) family moved into Louisiana in the mid 1800's. Their name changed from Auld to Aulds. The Auld family came from Ayrshire, Scotland in 1665 with the arrival of John Auld. I will ask some people to see about your grandfather, the name sounds familiar. The Aulds are of Scottish descent, so I hope that this helps for now, but I will look into your grandfather.

Todd Aulds
