My great grandfather was William J. Althiser. He was listed in the 1880 Federal Census in Red Hook, Dutchess County, New York along with parents Samuel & Helen Althiser and siblings Charles,Frederick, Mary, Carrie and Maud. Adjacent to this family the the 1880 census were Samuel's three brothers (George,John and Henry) along with their mother Helen.
In the 1850 Federal census in Red Hook, Dutchess County, New York, Hellen Althiser was listed with her four sons (George,Henry,John & Samuel) but no husband.
In the 1840 Federal Census in Red Hook, Dutchess County, New York there was a Zachariah Althiser listed with 2 boys in the 10-15 age group, 2 boys in the 15-20 age group, 1 male in the 40-50 age group and one female in the 40-50 age group. The ages were right as well as the number and sex of the children so I thought that perhaps Zachariah my great grandfather's grandfather.
I am trying to find where this family fits in. Was Zachariah married more than once? Was there more than one Zachariah?
