Family Tree DNA Group Discount!!! 11/1 – 12/31, 2009

Hello Folks,
The Genetic Genealogy Holiday Season promotion by FamilyTreeDNA (FTDNA) has just been announced. This would be a great time to invite your cousins or other family members to be tested for the first time, or for you to upgrade your test results. A Christmas gift of a DNA test may be just the thing for your family member who has everything.

FTDNA is bringing back the discount that was offered this past summer for the Y-DNA-37 test, the most popular test and the test most requested by the Project Administrators.

The Holiday Sale prices are:
DNA from father to son
* Y-DNA-37 - Holiday Price $119  (Reg. Price $149)
* Y-DNA-67 - Holiday Price $209  (Reg. Price $239)

DNA from mother to daughter
* mtDNAPlus - Holiday Price $139  (Reg. Price $149)
* SuperDNA - Holiday Price $488  (Reg. Price $665)

Orders for the above tests need to be placed and paid for by December 31, 2009, to receive the sale price.
IMPORTANT: since this Holiday Promotion will run through the months of November and December, you are encouraged to spread the word starting now, as the natural tendency is for people to order at the last minute, and FTDNA will not extend this sale beyond December 31, 2009.

Go to this page to order your test & see what has been done so far. You can click on Patriarchs to see the trees I have collected.
Altman
http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/altman/results

In addition, here are the newly released permanent prices for the Full Mitochondria Sequence (FGS) test:

* New Kit [for mtDNA Full Sequence Test (FGS)] ... $279 (Originally $495)
* Upgrade from HVR1 to FGS ........................ $229 (Originally $460)
* Upgrade from HVR2 to FGS ........................ $209 (Originally $450)
* FGS after testing Y-DNA (any) .................... $249 (Originally ($475)

I have traditionally recommended the mtDNAPlus test (HVR1 & HVR2) for genealogical research for one’s direct female line (your mother, your mother’s mother, etc.). However, since mtDNA mutates so very slowly, if you are in a major Haplogroup such as ‘H’, you may find you have way too many matches; most of which are probably false positives. In these cases, you need the mtDNA Full Sequence test (FGS). A couple of years ago the FGS was priced at almost $1,000. The new prices make the FGS very attractive for the needs of genealogists.

Remember, 50 to 100 years from now, your descendants will find your genealogy charts, your birth certificate, marriage license, census entries, etc., but they will be very disappointed if they do NOT find your DNA test results.

My efforts as the Project Administrator for Genetic Genealogy Projects include: recruiting new members for the Project, explaining the benefits of genetic genealogy to participants and potential participants, as well as helping participants understand their test results in conjunction with their genealogy.

I'm a volunteer administrator for Genetic Genealogy Projects. I do not work for FTDNA, nor am I compensated by FTDNA in any way. I do not publish participant genealogies in any way (except for the direct line as seen on the genetic results Web pages *); the genealogies provided to me are only for Y-DNA and mtDNA evaluations for the participant and the Project.* Living individuals are NOT listed by name, or dates.

Let me know if you have any questions.
Diane Aultman Lafferty   dlaffert@netdoor.com
Administrator FTDNA Alt – Altman & Lafferty
Family Tree DNA Group Discount!!! 6/9-6/24, 2009

Family Tree DNA Group Discount!!!!!! 37 markers!!!

Offer summary:

• Y-DNA37+mtDNA for $119. (The regular project price is $248 – a reduction of more than 50%!!)

• The promotion will begin on June 9, 2009 and will end on June 24, 2009

• Kits ordered in this sale must be paid for by June 30, 2009

This is a great deal!!!! This gives a good number of markers and also adds the DNA the male got from his mother. Which I don't know yet. More DNA markers can be added later when they have a promotion if need be. For the Altman/Aultman study we need 67 markers but this is a great start for a great price.

To get the discount and results on the right site you need to order under the surname page.

http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=altman
Altman/Aultman DNA site up

The Altman/Aultman DNA Project is up and running with one entry. Need you to get your kit ordered and entered. I am excited that Terry Barton set it up for us. To order your kit go to this site. Terry suggests the 25 or 37 marker kit. If you got the 12 marker you may have to up-grade later. He said it takes about 6-8 weeks for the results. This is a mouth scraping of a Altman/Aultman male.

http://www.familytreedna.com/DNAList.asp?Group=Altman

Go to this site and click on results to see the one entry. He is from the Thomas & Lydia Altman [Group A] in GA line

http://worldfamilies.net/surnames/a/altman/

Go to this page and read Freq. Asked Questions if you need answers to anything. I don’t know much yet. He would have been born in 1825, so this may very well be the same person.

I am not researching this family myself, I only offered to help someone else researching this family. But I thank you for your kind offer to help. Reaffirms my long-held belief that genealogists are the most helpful people in the world, except only for the Coast Guard and the Salvation Army!

Elijah & Mary Beck Altman are said to have had five children; three of those children are William (b. 1847?), B. F. (b. 6 Sep 1847 in Holmes Co, Oh.) and Josiah Sylvester Altman (b.
Would your David Aultman have been born 25 Jan. 1825 (probably in Pa.) To Johann Christian & Barbara Sholl Altman? And, did he die 22 Oct. 1903 in Westmoreland Co., Pa. after a marriage to Lyida Ann Stough 4 Apr. 1849? If so, I have a bit on his descendants.

First, let me say that I don't have proof of the Altman/Aultman lineage of your Ruth Aultman. However, using "The Pioneering Altmans" by James Sherlock and various online postings, I have your mother-in-law placed as a descendant of Hans Wilhelm Altman as follows:

1) Hans Wilhelm Altman md Anna Demoth/Demuth
2) Johannes Altman md Eva Waggman/Wagmann
3) Johann Jacob Altman md Anna Maria Eisenmann
4) Johann Wilhelm Altman md Maria B. Stahl/Scholl
5) John Aultman md Anna E. Pershing
6) Isaac Aultman md Nancy Wallick
7) George R. Aultman md Margaret Conrad
8) John W. Aultman md Lucy A. Conkle
9) George A. Aultman md Ida J. Carpenter
10) Ruth Aultman md Harry Drennan

I only show Harry & Ruth Aultman Drennan as having one son, Allen Drennan--would he be your husband? Or did Harry & Ruth have more children that I am not aware of? Would you be willing to share inforamtion on the Altman/Aultman family tree?

Sincerely,
William (Bill) H. Ream, Jr.

I have quite a bit on the Altman/Aultman descendants. You may view some of it at <www.familytreemaker.com/users/r/e/a/William-Henry-Ream-jr>. I would be interested in sharing any information you might have on the descendants of Hans Wilhelm Altman--my eighth great-grandfather.

I just got a discount on the DNA Projects. We can get 4 Y-DNA discounts for a few dollars off. It has to be done by the end of the month.

"We would also like to take this opportunity to give each Surname Project a $130 gift in the form of 6 Gift Certificates - 2 $30 for Y-DNA37 or 67, 2 $20 for Y-DNA25 and 2 $15 for mtDNA - that will be valid according to the following terms:
c) Kits must be ordered and paid for by December 31st, 2006
2) If you order the test under the "Credit Card" method, please contact Julie@familytreedna.com with the kit number and have her refund the value of the Gift Certificate to the credit card used in the purchase."

So - go to this site and order your kit.

http://www.familytreedna.com/DNAList.asp?Group=Altman

Let me know when you order your kit so I can look for it. I am supposed to be administrator. Not doing a good job yet. I am letting Terry do most of it. I may have to turn in you gift certificate. So let me know if you did not order & I will try to find some else to do it.

Diane
Re: AULTMAN'S IN OHIO

Joseph Aultman was my adopted Gr.x6- grandfather. His grandson, Joseph, married Lucia Daniker and adopted my Gr. grandfather, Clarence Yax. Clarence and my Gr grandmother Fern had 2 children, Joyce around 1930 I think and my grampa Floyd Raymond around 1931. In the early 1940's Clarence disappeared, never to be heard of again. My family has tried for years to learn about him or any of his family. My grampa is now almost 74 and given up on finding any info. I know the whole family was from Dayton,OH and was born there myself. Any info anyone has would be greatly appreciated. I can be contacted at nacomab@netscape.net

Betty Hawks
