I have traditionally recommended the mtDNAPlus test (HVR1 & HVR2) for genealogical research for one’s direct female line (your mother, your mother’s mother, etc.). However, since mtDNA mutates so very slowly, if you are in a major Haplogroup such as ‘H’, you may find you have way too many matches; most of which are probably false positives. In these cases, you need the mtDNA Full Sequence test (FGS). A couple of years ago the FGS was priced at almost $1,000. The new prices make the FGS very attractive for the needs of genealogists.

Remember, 50 to 100 years from now, your descendants will find your genealogy charts, your birth certificate, marriage license, census entries, etc., but they will be very disappointed if they do NOT find your DNA test results.

The Altman/Aultman DNA Project is up and running with one entry. Need you to get your kit ordered and entered. I am excited that Terry Barton set it up for us. To order your kit go to this site. Terry suggests the 25 or 37 marker kit. If you got the 12 marker you may have to up-grade later. He said it takes about 6-8 weeks for the results. This is a mouth scraping of a Altman/Aultman male.

I am not related to the Aultman families. But I have letters from our family in which David Aultman is mentioned. He would have been born in 1825, so this may very well be the same person.

C.C. Powell was known as "Lum" to all in Worth County. C.C.'s father was Dennis Powell who was married to Catherine Elizabeth Bozeman.
