Did you ever find the information you were looking for on Jacob Aument? I have some info on him and his line back to Germany (1565).

According to my father's data, Jacob was born ca 1802 and died 1877. His parents were John George Ament (6 May 1780 - 1866) and Catherine Maurer (ca. 1788-1851).
