I dug out my book on the Aunes but didn't find a reference to Ralph. It's pretty thorough, though one or two branches of the family have fallen by the wayside. There is a reference to an Olaf Aune but he was born in the 1860s.

There are a lot of Aunes in Norway, particularly in the area south of Trondheim I think. It's possible we're related but people took the name of the farm they worked on so there's no way of knowing.

Good luck in your search.

I have a book <John Alvson Aune and His Descendants in America 1794 to 1976> by Kenneth L. Pederson. It traces the descendants of John Alvson Aune's son, Ole Johnson Aune, whose 10 children emigrated from Rindal in the later 19th century. 7 settled near Underwood, Minnesota, another in Watham, Mass, and one in Washington state.

By 1907, there wer 140 descendants and the book lists all those born up to 1976.

If you want to know if you belong to this group of Aunes, just email me your name or your parents' names and I can look. If you turn out to be a relative, I'll send you more information.

The emigration register for the port of Trondheim in Norway lists the brothers leaving that date for Minnesota. It also lists that their previous residence in Norway had been 'Beistaden' which would seem to indicate the parish of Beitstad in Nord-Trøndelag, Norway.
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbas...
With Peder listed as born about 1885 and Thorvald born about 1888 the 1900 Norwegian census would appear to be the next database to check.
Yup - with parents and other siblings -
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbas...

Peder or Thorwald Petersen Aune

Peder and Thorwald were brothers from Norway. Peder's boarding pass that I have(written in danish so I don't understand it) lists him as 22 as of 3-13-1907. I was told that they emmigrated to Canada. They were loggers and ended up in Northern Wisconsin. Don't think Peder (later called Peter) had any children. Thorwald married Steffi Sislo(Gleson? maybe) and had Thorwald "Junior", Peter, Ivar, Ann, Doris, Karen, Mattie, Patrica, Andrew "Pee Wee" and the oldest girl who I'm forgetting her name. I was told that the older children used the last name Aune and the younger ones Peterson(sen?). Am trying to find any info on them here in US or in Norway.

I am trying to find information on Mikal Aune, my great-Grandfather, who changed his name from Mikalsen (spelling?) when he moved to the farm "Aunet" in Sparbu, Nor-Trondelag. Mikal's wife was Peternella. His son, Marius, emigrated to the U.S. in 1890 and homesteaded in Mohall, North Dakota, after living for a time in Minneapolis. He married Nellie (Mikkelson?) from Wisconsin, while in Minneapolis. After her death, he married Carrie Larsen, and they moved to Mohall, N.D.

I am interested in any additional information about Mikal and his family, before the name change. Also, I'd be interested in communicating with my Aune family in Norway, via e-mail.

I think your Aune family is a different one than mine. None of my family was in the US before 1895, and only 2 brothers emigrated to the US: Marius and Anton, both ending up in Minnesota and then later, Marius in North Dakota, approximately in 1902. Apparently in Norway, many farms contain "aunet" and families took the name of the farms, so there would be a lot of Aunes.

My Gr.Grandfather was born Christian ? in Trondhjem Norway 13 Aug. 1889. Changed his surname to Aune upon entry in USA. Was a sea captain and finished his career and life in the Seattle WA area; died in early 1960s. Had a son Harold E. Aune born 25 Nov 1910 (died Sept.1986), a daughter Ester (sp?). Am just beginning research. Any assistance is much appreciated.
