My gr-gr-grandfather was Charles G. Kunert who married Augusta W. Aurich on 7/22/1859 in Lake County, Indiana. She was born 2/20/1842 in Saxony and was the daughter of Wilhelm C. Aurich and Emily B. Richter. Augusta emigrated with her parents and brother in 1850. Is it possible that she and her family are part of the lineage that you are researching? I will eagerly await your reply.
Regards,
Karla

My great uncle is William Charles Reece who married Mildred Grace Aurich april 12, 1924. I have her death as Nov 11, 2001. I have two different dates of death for William Charles...either 1967 or 1968. The social security index give 1967. Do you know which is correct?
I just nioticed tge name Aurich. That was my mother's name, Mildred Grace Aurich, and Herman Aurich was my Grand-Father. My mother passed away a few years ago in Muskegon MI. I will be 70 this year, and I still have an older brother who is 85 living in Mears, MI His name is Howard Russell Reece. There are many stories I can tell regarding my visit to the original farm. I can also recall the time that when my Aunt Jessie used to live in the 3rd story of the orginal farm house, this was built my grand-father, then latter he rebuilt the chichen coop across the road into living quarters. Send me an e-mail address along with your phone number, and I will fill you in with many stories.

Thanks,

Ron Reece

Do you know from where in Germany your Aurich family came?
My Grandmother Anna Marie Wendel who married Charles Edward Aurich came from Shoenau bei Heidelberg to New York in 1884 when she was about 26. But the Wendel family originated in the Odenwald, outside of Frankfurt am Main and there is still Wendel family there--intermarried for centuries with other Odenwald families.
My Edward Bertrand Aurich, father of Charles Edward, was naturalized about 1855 in New York having settled in Brooklyn, Kings County, NY where Charles Edward was born. His mother was Swiss. Feel that Edward (Eduard) Bertrand Aurich married after he got to US, can't be sure. His mother, Elizabeth Webber was Swiss but Charles said they were from Alsace Lorraine--and he looked French. All I know is that Edward Bertrand Aurich came from Saxony, but Saxony was a lot bigger in the early 19th century than it is now. To do genealogy in Germany and Switzerland, it is essential to have the town where they came from or you get zilch. That is my brick wall. The naturalization papers gave nothing. Edward Bertrand Aurich moved his family around-- was in Orange Co.,NY, Indiana, Michigan and finally settled in Nashville, TN where he had greenhouses because he was gardener for the homes in Nashville here gardening was a big thing. I couldn't find any more in Nashville, and while in Dresden email Chemnitz where there are lots of Aurich names--but they did not have his name in their database. Then I was in touch with descendants of his sister Caroline whom we didn't know anything about--but their e-mail doesn't work now.
Please let me know what you have found. Regards, Kay Somerville, Chillicothe, MO

Do you know where your Aurich's came from in Germany. My Edward Bertrand came from Saxony according to the US Census. In the early 1800's Saxony was much bigger than it is today and while in Dresden I went to the Hdqtrs of the Lutheran Church and they said I would have to write each separate church! You have to know the town they came from. Wish I could find out. They settled first in Williamsburg, NY (Brooklyn) King's Co. He married a Swiss. Where? Edward was briefly in MI about 1867 or 1870. Went to TN. Kay Somerville ksomrvle@greenhills.net

Re: spelling Aurich, aurik, etc.

Kenneth,

With respect to the Dutch version I can be brief. Aurich and Aurik mean the same. Both relate to the City Aurich, situated in East Friesland (Germany) or a little village in the south of Germany.

Different way of writting my surname, were: aurik, aurick, ouwerick, etc. etc. Sometime I had the feeling that the clerc had problems written and mist a vital letter. or added his interpretation of what was said to him.

Au: in germany means water
Rich: comes from reich and means ritch
Combined: land with lots of water around, logical if you find out were aurich is situated.

found the meaning on Aurick/Aurik at "namebendersite":
English: brave valor or Germany: brave leader

Ouwerick: means somebody very old

Hence, my feeling is that the origin of Irish have to be found in the brave valor explaination there were the germany names variants originate from places.

gr.

Hi, it seems a little overwhelming to sort out the Aurick/Aurick/Orick variants. There appear to be Dutch, German, Irish, and even English variants of this name. Does nayone know if the Dutch entered Ireland in any great numbers. We are trying to trace Sarah Aurick who married Frances Cheney of New Kent Va. If anyone is searching this line, please indicate if you have had any luck on Aurick. Thanks
