My husband's grandmother's maiden name was Aust. We, with the help of two others interested in the Aust name in the UK, have traced our branch of the Aust family back to the late 1500s in Corsham, Wiltshire. The name seems to be highly concentrated in Wiltshire. Our branch of the family moved to the Ilsminster area and then the Yeovil area of Somerset in the 19th century, finally settling in Reading, Berkshire in the early 20th century. My husband's great grandfather Alfred Thomas and 2 x great grandfather Thomas both worked on the Great Western Railway.
