So, my Thomas Auten is a brother to your Adrian and my husband connects to your line through Jan(John) Auten. Your brother could take the DNA test if he chose to, being a direct line Auten. My husband's Auten line married into the Camburn's and then into the Emery's, so we can't take the DNA for Autens. It's been nice chatting with you. Good luck on your research.

Regards,
Chris Emery

Would this be the same Thomas Auten who was married to Elizabeth Van Tuyl? Father to Paul G.? If so, we are in the same line. I did find a lady, I believe her name is Karen, who inherited alot of stuff on the Auten's from a Mamie(?) if I remember right. I have most of the information available from her at this time. Thank your for your response. I too am kind of a baby in genealogy. I've only been doing this seriously for a little over a year. Before that I dabbled in it a little for a couple of years.
I am a beginner in genealogy research, but some nice Aten gals got me started. Look into Adrian Hendrickse Aten of New Amsterdam. New Amsterdam was a Dutch settlement in what later became New York He had three sons, Thomas, John and Paul. I am in the Thomas Aten line. Maybe this is helpful if you haven't already found out information. The ladies who have given me the facts so far, I believe, are descendants of Adrian Aten also.

Hi, I hope to make contact with Auten males who might be interested in tracking their Aten/Auten line back in time to New Amsterdam.

A keen group of amateur genealogists are working on the Aten Project, and an important part of this just now is finding Auten males who will participate in a DNA testing program that will sort out the various Auten/Aten lines.

If you, or anyone you know, might be interested, the testing is at no charge to you, and is a painless cheek swab.

Please let me know if you are interested. Looking forward to hearing from you. nancy

TOWLER-BOYD children adopted out
Hello, I'm helping a friend, Tina locate her half siblings, GUY LYNN TOWLER, b. 11/4/51(we think) in Ada OK, or adopted out there, and DEBRA JEAN TOWLER, b. 7/23/53 in Merced CA., although, because she is younger than Guy, we assume she may have been adopted out of OK. too. The birth parents for the children were CLEBURN SPENCE TOWLER, and HAZEL MARIE (BOYD) TOWLER. I have posted on adoption websites too, so hopefully will find them. I've included some family of the mother, HAZEL BOYD below to see if anyone is related to this family and can shed some light, or atleast let us know what ever happened to HAZEL, as she was divorced from CLEBURN in '54.

HAZEL is related directly to the 4th person on this list, JOHN BOYD and ADELLE YOAKUM, they are her parents. The rest of the people listed are JOHNS' siblings and parents.

Children of MARY KATHERINE WEBB and ALFRED TERRY BOYD are:

1. NEARL EDGAR BOYD was born in Allen, Hughes County, Oklahoma. He married AMY WILICHCO.

2. ALBERT LEE BOYD was born in Allen, Hughes County, Oklahoma. He married FRANCES JACKSON.

3. IDA JANE BOYD was born 16 Dec 1905 in Allen, Hughes County, Oklahoma, and died in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She married CARL FRANCIS KILE.

4. JOHN ELMER BOYD was born 16 Aug 1907 in Allen, Hughes County, Oklahoma, and died 1924 in Allen, Hughes County, Oklahoma. He married ADELLE YOAKUM.

5. BILL BOYD was born 22 Jul 1910 in Allen, Hughes County, Oklahoma, and died 9 Apr 1934 in Gerty, Hughes County, Oklahoma. He married IMOGENE MANUEL 1933 in Gerty, Hughes County, Oklahoma. She was born 3 Sep 1911 in Huff, Arkansas, and died 9 Apr 1934 in Eric, Oklahoma.

6. DELIA ETHEL BOYD was born 17 Jun 1912 in Stuart, Hughes County, Oklahoma, and died 14 Jul 1992 in Allen, Ponotocs County, Oklahoma. She married VICTOR TROY MANUEL 28 Apr 1933 in Round Pairie, Hughes County, Oklahoma, son of DANIEL JESSIE MANUEL and JENNIE CONNOR AUTEN. He was born 15 Jul 1907 in Independence County, Arkansas.

7. CARL JAMES BOYD was born 25 Dec 1914 in Allen, Hughes County, Oklahoma, and died 1991 in Holdenville, Hughes County, Oklahoma. He married MARGARET LOUISE LOFTIS.

8. HUBERT AL BOYD was born 16 Feb 1917 in Allen, Hughes County, Oklahoma, and died Nov 1917 in Allen, Hughes County, Oklahoma.

She married on 1 April, 1813 Philip __________ Lesher (son of John Lesher and Anna Catherine Wohlfahrt). He was born in Tulpehocken Twp., Berks County, Pennsylvania on _____ __________, 1791 and died on 12 February, 1844. They were the parents of the following children:

a.	Frances ___________ Lesher was born on _____ __________, 1814 and died on 7 May, 1853. She married on _____ __________, _____ Jeptha __________ Auten. He was born on _____ __________, _____ and died on _____ __________, _____.

I think Jeptha is the same as John J. but I'm not positive. I also have a Philip Lesher and an Andrew Lesher marrying Billmeyer women.

Harold

If you have, I'd love to discuss them with a view to adding them into a 'national Aten/Auten data base'. We are particularly interested in your line as their positioning in the Northumberland, Montour PA area is key to the research work now being done.
Hi Barbara,

thanks for putting your line 'out there' - I've added the line to my collection - hope I've got the connection on back correct...next to Paul and Maria Van Duyne... next to Thomas and Hillitje Van Arsdalen... next to Jan and Eliz Schillman.... etc.

I am very much enjoying playing the 'fill in the blanks' game with the Aten/Autens. Of course I hope one day to complete my own line with some assurance. For now the controversy over who John J Auten was and who Mary Burns was leaves an interesting hole in that line. But, in the mean time I hope to make the rest of the family lines as complete as I can - just for fun.

If there is anything I can send you from our line (I can certainly do the line from 1809 on... and can 'guess' at the line going back to New Amsterdam) I'd be pleased to do so.

By the way, what is your stand on the story of the origins of the family? With your work in the business, perhaps you have satisfied yourself as to the most likely origin??? Hope your business is going well. I'd also love to hear about that if you have the time or inclination to share tales about what you do and who you work with. I'm curious to know where and with whom (which lines) the most active research is going on.

All the best, nancy

Can you supply the names of your grandparents Auten with some vitals (b, d, m dates & places)?

There are alot of Autens out here; a little more info would be very helpful - particularly on your grandparents..

Colleen

Fulcard Auten/Auton - b. 1760 Sussex Co., NJ to Lincoln Co., NC

Hello,

I am seeking information on the family of Fulcard Auton/Auten and his wife Elizabeth Bonham.

According to his Rev. War pension application, Fulcard was b. 10 Mar. 1760 in Sussex Co., NJ. He enlisted in 1775 in Morristown and fought 7 years in a company commanded by his uncle Fulkard Seaborn. A few years "after peace was made" he moved from NJ to Lincoln Co., NC. There he married Eliza/Elizabeth Bonham in 1788. They lived in Lincoln Co., NC for 22 years and then moved to neighboring county of Mecklenburg. Fulcard died at the age of 101.

Wife Elizabeth Bonham was born ca. 1771 in NJ and died after 1850.

I descend from the Bonham family who removed from NJ to Lincoln Co., NC. My ancestor, Absalom, is the only Bonham we have found in the early Lincoln Co., NC records - other than this Elizabeth Bonham who married Fulcard Auton. I am trying to determine how (and if) she is related to my Absalom.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Catherine

Hi...That sounds familiar but I am not sure. My grandmother's name was Alice Marie Auten (maiden name Clouse) both of my grandparents died I believe in the 70's so it was way before I was even born but my father never spoke about his parents or grandparents so I have no idea. I know there is his sisters left... Sarah Emily Ashlock, Rosie Hussein, Lois Virginia Mikkola, and Betty Auten. I don't know if that helps but my fathers name was James Frederick Auten and his brother was Charles Auten ( I don't remember his middle initial though) I would like to find out more about my background and maybe I could help you out. My email has changed its stephaniecruz@comcast.net. Thanks so much!

Stephanie Cruz

I think your Westley Auten is the brother of my great grandmother, Anna Auten. Also spelled Auton. They are found in the 1880 Census (with their parents, J. Thomas and Sara Watts (b. abt 1841).This Census was for Long Creek township, Mecklenburg Co.,NC.

I don't know the parents of J. Thomas Auten but I do know the father of Sarah Watts was Enoch Watts. I found this on the death certificate for Sarah.

Sarah and Thomas were married about 1863.

I tried contacting your email address with no success.

Anyone.....please contact me if you have additional information for the parents of Enoch Watts and Thomas Auten (Auton).

epotts@computertree.com
epott4@triad.rr.com

gg grandmother Martha Ann AUTEN, b. 1840 in TN, + Thomas Benton HOOKER, b. 1840 in AL. These two moved from Tescumbia AL with twin daughters Hester Ann & Rebecca Ann to raise a large family in McNairy Co., TN including serveral sets of twins.

I believe my Martha Ann to be the grandaughter of Josiah J. AUTEN + Margaret J. Berryhill through their son John AUTEN, b. 1805 in NC + Nancy TODD, b. 1809 in GA.

I have information on this AUTEN family if you would like to share.

John Auten/Florence Baugh in Missouri and Iowa

I am looking for anyone who may have a John Auten in their research who married Florence Baugh. Both were born in the 1870's and lived in Putnam county, Mo. and Appanoose and Monroe counties in Iowa. I am actually researching the Baugh line, but cannot find this couple in the 1920 censuses anywhere. Thanks, Cheryl in Oregon

Bernie is also interested in auten genealogy and would be interested in your story. let me know if you want to connect. all the best, nancy

Re: Aten/Auten reunion

Hi- I know your reunion is over, but since you organized it, I thought you might help me or at least refer me to someone knowledable who could help me with my elusive Autens. My Wynea (nee Langstraet) Goyon DeMott wrote a will in 1792 (witnessed by Peter Schamp May 6, 1794), Hunterdon Co, NJ in which she mentions her daughter Stintje Decker (wife of Peter Decker) and two grandchildren- William and Jacoba (Jacobus?) Auten. I am assuming William and Jacoba's mother is Wynea's deceased daughter. I have estimated that the deceased daughter and Styntje were born around 1745-1750, so William and Jacoba would have been born after about 1760. William and Jacoba were given "one equal one-third part of all my money and the one equal one-fourth part of all my new linning...".

I am trying to discover :What is the first name of these boy's mother? Who is their father and what is his lineage? Thank you in advance. Janet
