Glad to hear you are all doing well. We're doing good here as well. Our son Michael started college at St. Ambrose University in Davenport Iowa on a music scholarship (he's double majoring in music education and performance), so we're going through the empty nest syndrome! But he loves music and will be performing in the Rose Bowl Parade on New Years day with the Bands of America marching band.

I hope everyone stays well. Keep in touch...I guess we should check in more frequently! It was five years for me before the last time!

In short, the story goes like this: The AUZ family name comes from very old times and its origins are in the Basque country in Spain and France. In the Middle Ages, a branche of the Auz family went to Santiago de Compostela (Galicia Spain) as pillgrims and then establishsed near Lugo where they build up a big family house (casa grande o pazo de "La Pesqueira"). Later (1500 - 1600 or so) some of them went to South America when the times of the Discovery as soldiers (they were Hidalgos). For instance, Pedro de Ursua was a great captain of the Spanish Army and discovered new routes in the Marañon river searching for El Dorado. He created several new towns (ie Pamplona in Colombia). Some other members of the family (ie Diego de Aux de Armendáriz, etc.) established in Ecuador and Mexico as Gobernadores. By the way, the old name was Aux. Other very old names related with the family are Neyra, Ron, Montenegro, Rodil, Luaces, all from the old Kingdom of Galicia.

I am also from Ecuador but live in the US in Houston, Texas. I was also contacted by the Family in Spain back in the early 90's and I was sent a picture of what the coat of arms would have looked like. I am still not sure if the South America branch of the last name is related to the Spanish family. My grandfather was Pedro Auz and my father is Cesar Augusto Auz.

Angela, I read your post regarding your famly coming from South America. My maiden name is Auz and my father was born in Ecuador. My grandfather was Luis Auz. He was married once before my grandmother, however I do not know to whom. My grandfather, I believe, had two daughters from the first marriage. I think their names are Teresa and Nellie. Please let me know if we have any common background.

I happened to see that you note that your family was from Chicago. There was a Kenneth Auz who lived in Roberts Park, IL in prob at least around the mid 40's. The Roberts Park Community is having a reunion. I thought I would pass this on to you.

Just an FYI:

There is a Roberts Park Community Reunion to be held the weekend of August 6, 2004 for all the families who grew up in the Park.

KEN, I REALLY DON'T MEAN TO SOUND NASTY ABOUT ALL THIS I JUST WISH YOU ALL COULD UNDERSTAND WHAT THIS DOES TO A CHILD. SHE WAS LUCKY ENOUGHT TO SEE HER FATHER WHEN SHE WAS ONLY 2 BUT THAT JUST ISN'T ENOUGH FOR A KID. NOW THAT SHE IS BECOMING A YOUNG ADULT I NEED TO HELP HER THROUGH THIS. This message is for Ken, Melissa has a right to know her family, and if you don't like it that is your problem. You are the ones missing out on knowing a wonderful girl. But she will not stop till she gets the info she is looking for and for your information I have never threated Kim or anyone else. Melissa is now 19 and has hired an attourney to help her anyway they can. They told her if it came down to it they will order d n a tests and I will stand by her all the way. Like it or not she is part of your family and she has a right to information about her father. Barb

In reading the above message from Barbara Knutson, I see that she says her daughter has received "grief" from my family. I happen to be Keith's brother. My brother was killed in a car accident in 1986. Barb Knutson starts contacting members of my family claiming that her daughter is my deceased brothers child. I do not know if this is true or not but I do know I have in no way, shape or form given Barbara Knutson or her daughter greif. I do know she has made threats to my sister over the telephone but that was quite some time ago. If anyone wishes to give Barbara Knutson info on our family, that's up to you. I personally will not.

Marty, My daughter has tried for years to get information about her father Keith and she just gets greif from his family. If you could help her to get any information possible I would sure appreciate it as would she. We were never married but did date for about 4 years before i got pregnant with her. She does have one pic of him that I used to have and I gave it to her to know what he looked like. Anything you could do would help. She looks just like the Auz side of the family. Hi, I am not aware of any family members living in South or Central America. I believe my grandfathher was from Pennsylvania but I got that info from Martin Auz. Martin probably has more info than I do. If I can find anything more I will let you know, Ken

Hi, Thanks for responding. I was born in Manhattan, but have lived in Connecticut since I was very young. However, I lived in Ecuador for about 5 years in between. Does your family have any roots or relatives in South America? Also, have you ever tried to trace back the last name? I know that there is at least 1 Auz family in Spain...they contacted us probably about 8-10 years ago, but we lost touch. It would be interesting to know if we are at all related through previous ancestors, given that the name is so unusual. Thanks.

My family was from the Chicago Illinois area. My grandfather's name was Victor Auz. My father's name is Ken Auz and that would make me Ken Jr. I saw you had a response from Marty Auz, who would be my fathers cousin. Marty knows more about my grandfathers side of the family than I do. You say you were born in the United States. What part of the country are you from? I know this is going to be a real shock to the family

Hi Ken: Your dad is my first cousin. Your grandfather Victor and my father Peter were brothers. Victor was also my godfather.

I don't have too much information. Victor's parents were Ursula and Martin Auz. Ursula's father was Simon. Martin worked for the Santa Fe Railroad. He immigrated in 1907 (I think...I will have to look it up) and came to this country first. Ursula and their daughter Anne--Victor's sister-- came later in the year. I believe Victor was born in Philadelphia, but don't yet have a copy of his birth certificate. There apparently were two more children between Victor and Peter, because my dad's certicate says he was the fifthe child born to Ursula and Martin.

I have some birth dates and eath dates for those family members I am aware of. If you have specific questions I can answer, I will be glad to. Or, if you want me to send copies of what I have, I will do that also.

I last saw your dad in May 1997 at my dad's funeral. Please tell him hi.

I am glad to be in touch with you and look forward to exchanging family tree info.
