Avent DNA testing

An Avent DNA testing project has been set up, and several of us have been tested, with interesting results. Rather than go into them here, you can see them at my website, www.aventfamily.org. Look for the link to 'Avent DNA Studies'.

One interesting result, so far, is that it has proven that it is very likely that the Avance family, of Anderson Co., TN, is descended from Col. Thomas Avent of VA (1671-1757).

Looking forward and backwards tring to find ties to Robert Harris Avance born about 1836-1838 as Robert Avants.Changed his name during Civil War,married Elizabeth Jane Helton about 1859.They had a half children or so
Celia Ann,bn 1860.John Issac,bn 1866.Wliiiam P,bn 1869.Edward H.bn i873,James p,bn 1876 and Robert Harris jr. bn 1879.My Ancestor is John Issac Avance he married a Mary Luella Fite,bn 1870,on sept.4 1890.They Had 3 Kids ,
Dall(Dale)Lee bn 1891,Pearl M.bn 1893,and my grandfather bn Feb.4,1895.John Issac Died in or about 1896,Mary remarried to one Charles Edwards sometime after 1900 this may be where my brance of the family lost contact with
rest of Robert Harris Avances Decendents.My gfather William Arthur(Buck)Avance married Ombrea Beatrice Ivy Jan.1,1915 the had 12 kids.7 boys and 5 girls.The boys are Robert Lee,James Charles(J.C),William(Bill)jr,Vernon Ray,
Ralph Gerald(My Father)Donald Leon,And Tom Buck,The girls are Jewel B.,Verda Kathryn(Kathryn),Johnie Lou,Vera Sharlene(Sharlene),and Mildred Gail(Gail). The parents and other ancestors of Robert Harris Avance sr.is who I'm
looking for .Robert may have 3 or more siblings # that are known Mary,Jhon Williams,and Anna Jane,Father may be Isom/Isham Avants. Need any help thats out ther.Contact me thur e-mail or here on the message board.

Jim,the information you posted could prove
usefull,at the very least it was a new link
to explore.The Clegg book Thelma Sanders refers
to could be a book called the Cleggs of old
Chatham (Chatham N.C.)It was William Avent Sr
that was a preacher and he was born and died
in N.C. his son ( 1 Of many Children) born
Appox 1817 died in Tennessee 1841 or ther abouts.
you can find information on rev.William Avent
on a number of sites on the internet,the only
mention of william jr I could find is that he is
of rev.William Avent and Esther Watts Clegg.

Gerald, I received some family information two or three years ago from a lady named Thelma Sanders. She is the daughter of Gus Avance who was the son of William Pinkerton Avance. William was the brother of our Great Grandfather John Isaac. Mrs. Sanders research revealed Robert H. was the son of William Avance Jr. also spelled Avants and Avent. William was born in 1805 at Avent's Ferry on Cape Fear River, NC. William left for Arkansas by way of Tenn in the i820's. Per the Clegg Book (I don't have a clue) William was a Methodist preacher. Also the Clegg Book spelled the last name Avent. There is no information on his mother or wife. Obiviously his father must have also been a William. Maybe that explains the William's in every generation. Also Mrs. Sanders info indicates Robert Harris was born in 1834 in Tenn. Also she says the 1860n census in Ark shows Avants. I hope this helps you.
