Re: Cotarelo

Hi, I randomly found this site. I'm originally from Argentina but living in USA for over 20 years. My paternal grandfather Pedro Cotarelo traveled to Argentina from Asturias at the beginning of XX century. Cotarelos, originally are from Asturias: Vegadeo, Taramundi. There's a very, very group of houses (town??) with the name. I wonder where your family came from. regards

Avegno in New Orleans

We have Avegno ancestors in New Orleans, some married into the Voorhies family. The immigrant to New Orleans in the early 19th century was Philipe Avegno, native of Camuggi (Camogli) on the Genoese coast in Italy; his parents were Francisco Avegno (deceased by 1827) and Catarina/Catherine Danegre/Danegri/Denegas. His marriage and children are listed in the New Orleans Sacramental Records. Email me if you want all the records of that family.

VoorhiesAnn@aol.com

Re: Cotarelo

I can tell you something:
The Cotarelo name comes from the northwestern end of the Asturias region (north of Spain), specifically the area surrounding Vegadeo.
You can still find a lot of people bearing the Cotarelo name in the village called Taramundi, which lately is growing dramaticaly as a "rural tourism" resort.

Regards.
