LANCASTER: Lloyd S. "Ace" Averill, beloved father and grandfather, age 93 of Lancaster, Ohio passed away Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011.

Lloyd was a resident at the Inn at Fairfield Village. A retired Chief Master Sgt. with the Ohio Air National Guard 160th Air Refueling Group (Rickenbacker Air Force Base), and a retired employee of Lancaster City Schools.

Lloyd served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during WW II as a member of the 99th Bomb Group.

He was a 50 year member of the N. Canton Masonic Lodge, the Lancaster Men's Chorus for over 30 years, Lancaster Elks and Fairfield Heritage Association. He was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church.

He is survived by his children: Laura (Paul) Melius, Richmond, KY, Jim (Donna) Averill, Lancaster, Nancy (Casey) McKenzie, Lexington, KY, grandchildren; Sarah and Diane Melius, Erik (Aimee) Averill, Laura Averill, Adam (Hannah) McKenzie, Seth and Kaleb McKenzie, nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years Ruth, sister Arlow McFadden and brother Merrill Averill.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, 1:00 P.M. at the Halteman-Fett & Dyer Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Sturm officiating.
Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery where the Lancaster Veteran Burial Detail will conduct graveside military rites.
Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Lancaster Men's Chorus in Lloyd's memory.

Dr.Robert B's parents were Robert Marriott born about 1801 possibly in Suffolk & Maria Margaret BUCHANAN they were M: July 23,1822 at Stow Market Suffolk. I have 5 children to them Martha Ann ch:Dec.15,1826. Anne Sarah ch:Oct.6,1828. Dr.Robert Buchanan ch:Sept.13,1830. Yes, Dr. Marriott was married to my great-aunt Ellen Everett Marriott. I know that they lived in Swaffham and had numerous children, only one of whom left children of her own. I don't know a lot about Dr. Marriott's family. In letters written by my great-aunts to my grandfather he is referred to as Uncle Buchanan, probably because the Everett's had a lot of their own Roberts.

Wayland, N.Y. — Keith L. Averill, 77, passed away unexpectedly, Sunday (May 15, 2011) at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville.

Keith was born Aug. 29, 1933 in Hornell, a son of Clayton and Lottie (Wheeler) Averill.

He was a graduate of Hornell High School.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving during the Korean Conflict from 1953 to 1956.

He was predeceased by his wife, Jeanne (Johnson) Averill on April 17, 2011.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Keith was also predeceased by a daughter, Lori Quill; a brother, Clayton Averill; and a sister, Arletta Fraser.

Keith was a former upholsterer at the Gunlocke Chair Co., retiring after 38 years of dedicated service; he most recently worked as a Special Education Aide at the Wayland – Cohocton Central School.
In his younger years, Keith was an avid basketball and baseball player; he coached little league and softball; he umpired, bowled in many leagues, enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and playing horseshoes, but most of all he loved his family and was extremely proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Keith is survived by his daughters, Debbie (Del) Speers of Cohocton, Julie Averill of Avon, and Mary Jo (Reg) Rollo of Scottsville; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Shirley (Fred) Petersen of Hornell; one brother, Dick (Charlotte) Averill of Honeoye; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Maxine Averill, Dave and Eileen Johnson, all of Wayland; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call from 2:30-5 p.m. Tuesday at the Springwater Church of the Nazarene, State Rte. 15, Springwater, where a memorial service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours.

SPRINGWATER-WAYLAND, N.Y. — Jeanne M. Averill, 76, passed away on Sunday (April 17, 2011) at Noyes Hospital in Dansville.

Jeanne was born on May 29, 1934 in Wayland, a daughter of the late Alfred and Mary Swick Johnson.

She is predeceased by her daughter Lori Quill in 2010.

Jeanne worked at The Birdseye Factory in Wayland, was a secretary for Dr. Zone in Wayland, and worked in the Wayland Central School cafeteria. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, crafts, singing, sewing and camping, but her real enjoyment was spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Wayland United Methodist Church and the Springwater Church of the Nazarene.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Keith Averill of Cohocton; her daughters, Debbie (Del) Speers of Cohocton, Julie Averill of Avon, and MaryJo (Reg) Rollo of Scottsville; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dave (Eileen) Johnson of Wayland; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call from 1-3 p.m. on Wednesday at the Walter E. Baird and Sons Funeral Home in Wayland, where the funeral services will be held at 3 p.m.

Burial in the Village Cemetery of Wayland.

Contributions may be made to the liver transplant unit at Strong Memorial Hospital, Elmwood Ave., Rochester.

I'm searching for Susannah Swartz SHANE b. 1780s in or around Lycoming, Co, PA. or even NY. She was married to my GGGGG-Grandfather Jacob SHANE. I am trying to track Jacob's parent's, and hoping I can do so by determining a birthplace for each. Jacob's father was Thomas SHANE who immigrated from Germany around 1738. His father was Michael from Northern Ireland and his mother Nancy? Dedric? from Berlin. Michael emigrated to Berlin in 1695. Any ideas???

I cannot find the name of Myron L. Averill's parents. I have hit a dead end here. If anyone has some information, I would appreciate it greatly. I have been told that his family came here from France. I have been told that the last name had been d'Avre before it was changed and that they came from Normandie.

Lester is pictured in the 1943 yearbook of the 20th Ferrying Group, based at Nashville, Tennessee. Their duty was to transport aircraft from the United States to the Allied front. I'm not kin but thought this might help others researching family.

My name is Rochford Dyer. My Grandfather was Leonard Rochford Hyde and he was originally from Staffordshire. My Uncle was Air Commadore Rochford Lusada. We were invited through him years ago to come to a big 'family' re-union in Hawkes Bay. Sadly not the time or money!! I know I had a relative who became Archbishop of NZ.
We came to NZ in 2006, but never had a chance to do any digging...do you think we are related?

As you can see , my Christian name is Rochford. My Grandfather was Leonard Rochford Hyde from Staffordshire, then Warwickshire. I knew that I had a relative who was an Archbishop, so I guess we all must be related?

Some Averills With Maine Connections

I have no connection to any of these families. I am just posting info. I have come across while volunteering at the historical society. This is by no means a complete list, only the ones I was able to obtain. I have discovered the hard way that within a certain span of time, if you don’t have the date and place of death, it’s hard to track someone down.

Some of the names that appear to be maiden names may very well be married names and the other name given be the maiden name – at least it tells you a date and place of death – a good starting point. This is all the info. I have on these people although I do have a number of vital record books for the Knox County (Maine) area and would be willing to do a quick lookup or two. I am typing in literally hundreds of these entries so please be as specific as possible if you need a lookup.

Cyrus B. Averill d. Feb. 22, 1889 of consumption in Rockland, Maine at the age of 20 years, 4 mo., 25 days. He is buried in the Seaview Cemetery in Rockland.

Cyrus B. Averill d. Mar. 19, 1908 in Rockland. He was married to Hannah S. Eldridge. He is buried at the Seaview Cemetery.

Elijah M. Averill died Nov. 1, 1888 in Rockland, Maine at the age of 85 yrs., 4 mo., 6 days. He is buried in the Seaview Cemetery in Rockland.

Hannah S. (Eldridge) Averill died Jan. 10, 1902 in Rockland. She was the wife of Cyrus B. Averill. Hannah Eldridge was born Nov. 7, 1826 in Orland, Maine. She was the daughter of Zoeth Eldridge born in Cape Cod, Mass. and Hannah Hopkins who was also born in Massachusetts. Hannah is buried at the Seaview Cemetery in Rockland, Maine.

Margaret Hunter (Martin) Averill died Mar. 10, 1912 in Rockland. She is buried in the Seaview Cemetery in Rockland.

Mark C. Averill died July 27, 1882 in Rockland at the age of 15 years, 8 mos. He died from lockjaw/tetanus as a result of a toy pistol. His father was Frank Averill. Mark is buried at the Seaview Cemetery in Rockland.

Mary J. (Saddington) Averill died Dec. 2, 1924 in Rockland. He is buried at the Catholic Cemetery in Thomaston.

Greetings, I am Danielle Averill, the Grand daughter of Lt. Denniston Averill. My father is Denniston Averill II & was the son of Lt. Denniston Averill, who was decorated & died in Belgium during W.W II. My Grandfather Lt. Denniston Averill never knew his son, as he died in the war. My father was 6 month old when he died. He had only one child, a son. My Grandfather received the purple heart, silver star, bronze star, medal of France & medal of Belgium for his bravery & gallantry against overwhelming odds in Belgium. I have in my possession an extensive amount of information regarding his gallantry & action in the Battle of the Bulge. David M Averill, d. 1864, Civil War

Looking for the burial place of David Averill, killed near Franklin, Tennessee, 30 Nov 1964.

David Averill was a teacher in Tuscola County, Michigan, in 1860, according to the family history "The Averell - Averill - Avery Family" by Clara A Avery. He enlisted in Co D, 23 Michigan Infantry, as First Sergeant, 11 Aug 1862, at Tuscola, and killed in action in 1864 according to lists of Michigan Volunteers.

Was the body claimed by family and returned for burial by the family? If so, where?

Are you talking about the Free Grammer School in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, England? There was an Averill House there long ago as a reminder of who started the school, but if it exists today it would not be anything like it was when William as dealing with its affairs in the late 1500's You can see some info. at http://www.exchippy.org.uk/history1.html

Her name was Ufretta J.Gilmore; Born: Oct 1855 Utica, PA Death: April 15, 1928. I have her father as Robert Gilmore and mother as Unknown Snyder (I'm not sure how correct the parents are). Children of the couple Mannetta Alta B:Aug 1880, Alice Ella B: Dec 1882, Robert Myron B: Jan 1883, Curtis F B: 1890, Layton Washington B: Feb 1897 D: March 12, 1934, Archie B:1877.

I have several pictures of the family I would have to go back through them but I believe I have pictures of Robert. Did he go by Myron in stead of Robert because I remember seeing that on pictures.

Layton Washington Averill Born: 22 Feb 1897 Tidioute, PA Death: 12 March 1934 Detroit, MI he is buried Grand Lawn Cemetery in Detroit, MI. I don't know what Ruth's Mothers name was.
