Just to announce that I too am interested in the Avern's of Rowington. My line is the Aussie line of Frederick Morris, whose forebears were the cork merchants of Southwark. Still looking for the connection beack to Rowington though.
Trivia: The supposed arms of the Averns are basically those of Rowington with a silver mullet (=star) in the centre of the chevron.
The mullet is a cadence mark (roughly = "son of ...") suggesting an heraldic pun - Avern, son of Rowington.
