Dave, I have a copy of the Australian Death Certificate for him. I'd be glad to trade. If it helps your research, the Death certificate number is 1913/000277.

Also, in response to Rob Dolard's reply, Augustus and wife Evelyn Cahill did have 1 child, Rhoda Evelyn, b. 30 Oct 1897, San Francisco, d. 30 Aug 1977, San Francisco. This information is confirmed by the Australian Death Cert. plus census reports for 1900, 1910, 1920, 1930

Jon Avery

Had been out all day and decided to do some evening checking hence my reply last night.
Have to omit so much of my information came from Linda in Brisbane [the descendant of James Jackson]- she gave me the info without the actual records so I am not much use.
At the time my fatherinlaw was just thrilled to hear more of his heritage as his father died when he was 2- he was not so thrilled when I added a couple of convicts to his maternal side.
I have yet to check your family tree so am not sure which Mary Ann you mentioned- a sibling of these Averys or William James' wife?
I have John Reight Avery as born about 13 May 1799 at Stoke Damerel. Was never sure whether that was a christening or birth date.
I have a son living in Melbourne and we are going there in 2 weeks.
It is so long since I've used these boards- can you see my email address and email me there?
I am having trouble with another of my yahoo addresses and want to spend sometime on that ...we live on a farm and can't spend too much time here now but I will go look at your tree right this moment.

Re: Avery's Switch Arkansas

Hi, So glad to hear from one who knows something about Avery's Switch. My brother Ted visited that area a couple of summers ago and met something who had some of the Avery Dollars that were used at the store there. It appears that I am your second cousin. Your father and my father were cousins. My father, Roy Robert Avery was born in 1912 and died in 1964. He was born in Angoria, Stone County, Arkansas and most likely knew your father. Your Grandfather Ira was my Grandfather George Thomas Avery's brother. George Thomas was born on Oct. 1872 in Oblong, Illinois and was married on the 4th of May in Pope, Arkansas. He died on Oct. 16, 1949 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Your Great Grandfather Daniel is also my Great Grandfather. He was born May 11, 1836 in Indiana and died on January the 18th, 1888 in Arkansas. We also have the same Great, Great Grandfather, George born in 1801 in North Carolina and died in 1880 in Indiana. Our GGG Grandfather is George born in 1777 in North Carolina and died in 1852 in Indiana, (Marion County) That is as far back I have been able to go. I havn't been able to find out any information on GGG Grandfather George past 1777. If you find anything please let me know. I do have information on all of the Grandmothers (some as far back as the 600's)
you can get that information on my family tree..

My Grandfather George Thomas, your uncle, and Roland his brother and my great uncle and your uncle were the ones who developed the railroad tie business that let to Avery's Switch. I hope that this is helpful information.

Your Second Cousin

Jim Avery, Houston, TX

Avery,Illonois, Fred and may 1930 census

I am looking for any info about this family. My uncle has a group photo from his late mother's effects and is was taken in London 1923. It shows May Avery with very young daughter Barbara among others. He is at a loss as to how May fits into his family tree.
May and husband Fred Avery are on both 1920 and 1930 US census in Illonois. Both show as being born in England and emmigrating. May in 1906 and I think Fred in 1908. 1930 census shows daughter Barbara Avery as 9 years old and born in Illonois ( approx 1921).
I would be very grateful if anyone has any info about this family and also if anyone could help re the jargon surrounding obtaining a birth certificate for Barbara if all else fails and we could then determine May's maiden name.
I am in England and getting a US birth Certificate looks a very daunting task from what i have read.
Any help would be appreciates.

Thanks for getting back to me so promptly!!

Yes, my side of the family have pretty much stayed in Devonport & Plymouth for well over 200 years now. 250 years if we count back to Henry George from Maker (which I can see across the water from my home!)

I don't suppose I need much help at the moment but I'd love it if you could look at my Avery Family Tree which I've got posted on this Ancestry site. Maybe you could fill in some gaps if any or maybe fill some of your own!!

Your 2001 notice actually prompted me to look again at HGA's (Maker) children. I had William James & my 4x great grandfather Henry but no others. I've not found John Reight? but I've now found Charlotte (born 02 Nov 1803)& Mary Ann (born 27 Apr 1806)via the Stoke Damerel Parish Records. They were both baptised on the same day 16 Nov 1806. Was John baptised in 1802 in Stoke Damerel? If so, the church record names Henry George as this character and
the entry has William James' birth date!

Hope to contact St Paul's Church in Halifax, Nova Scotia for William James' baptism certificate & also Henry juniors.

Finally, I was in Aus in January this year. My son lives in Frankston, Victoria with his mum. The forest fires started the evening I left. Nothing to do with me though.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Ian.

Marlana,

I came across your surname page at ancestrial findings. I too am
related to James P. & Annie Avery. They are my 2nd ggrandparents.
They had a child Thomas James Avery, Sr m Carrie Brown. They had a
child Buney Mae Avery m Loyal Lindon Hooper (my grandparents). I am a
confused about Willie and Toy. In one census, it lists them as their
children and on the next, it list them as their grandchildren.
Although I have them listed as their children for now until I have
furthur proof, since census' have been known to have mistakes. You can
check my website at http://wheelerfamily.familytreeguide.com. I would
love to swap information. I have info on James P. & Annie Avery.
I do know from the census that Annie was living with Willie and his
family in 1930 census and died 2 Aug 1935. I have a DC for James P
Avery who died in the SC State Hospital (my mom told me the other day
that was a crazy ward). I have not listed it on my website because it
says he is married but does not list his wife or parents. The birth is
not exact, but, is listed as 1850 and death is 11 Jun 1921.

Tammy Mellard Wheeler

Country: USA

State: South or North Carolina

Date Submitted: October 9, 2003

Notes:

She was born to james p. and Annie Avery of Pelham, SC She was born
Sept. 1887 she has 14 brothers and sisters. She had a child Toy
Hawkins(my grandfather) with a man named Willie Hawkins (which i can't
find either) rumors are she died in a insane asilum in South Carolina.
Her family are all buried at ebnizer methodist chruch cemetery in
pelham, SC. I am told she is there but there is no headstone or
paperwork leading me there.
Thanks, Marlana Hensley

Database #: 14826
