DoD Identifies Army Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Spc. Adrian L. Avila, 19, of Opelika, Ala., died Oct. 29 at Khabari Crossing, Kuwait, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related accident. He was assigned to the 1343rd Chemical Company, 151st Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear Battalion, 115th Fires Brigade of the Alabama Army National Guard, in Fort Payne, Ala.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.

Adopted Woman, Martha Avila(?)

Martha was adopted in Mexicalli, Mexico. The story is a little confusing, but it is thought that she had a brother named Guillermo, who is about 20 or 30 years older than her. Her birth name is thought to be Martha Catalina Monroy Sevilla, and her name after adoption was changed to Martha Guadalupe Avila.

It is thought that her mother gave birth to her out of wedlock, and due to her career, didn't want anyone to know she had a child at that time. She gave Martha to Guillermo, who also could not care for her due to a jealous wife, and he gave Martha to her adoptive mother, Rena, when Martha was about 10 years old.

Her birth date was changed from sometime in July to the day she was adopted, Dec 12th. Her real birth date is thought to have been in 1959, and she was adopted in 1969. Rena was her babysitter/nanny when she was being cared for by her brother.

If you have any information about Martha's background PLEASE let me know. She, as well as her children, would like to know her biological family history.

My two lines of Avila were from Calheta, Manadas, etc. Sao Jorge, Azores, Portugal. I have records of births, marriages and deaths of our direct lines. The name changed through the generations. Previous to Avila it was Machado. Before that a few other names. I go back to the 1600's Write Rosie at ancestorhunt@sbcglobal.net if you think you might connect, and/or want to share info.

Dear Catherine, My grandmother, Adriana, had a brother named Joao/John, born 1 Dec 1871 in Manadas, Sao Jorge, Azores. Mariana Ana Areia born 5 Feb 1822 in Sao Jorge, Azores. The name was changed to Avilla. John was married to Mariana Areia not Correia 17 Sep 1899 Marin Co., Ca.

I have Correias from Faial, Azores on another line. They married in Marin Co.but moved to Stanislaus Co. If this is a possibility, I have lots on this family.

PETE "GRANDPA" AVILA, 83, a resi dent of Redlands, CA, for 17 years, passed away on March 5, 2008, at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Fontana, due to heart failure. He was born in Springfield, IL. Pete worked for Kaiser Steel, he retired after 25 years of service. He loved to play pool, and spending time with his grandchildren & great grandchildren. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He is survived by his daughter, Susie and her husband, Carlos Quiroz of Redlands; his granddaughters, Cecelia and her husband, Kapena Kamakawiwoole of Redlands, Diana and her husband, Ralph Munoz of Redlands and Kristie and her husband, Steve Carillo of Redlands; 6 great grandchildren. It's your cousin. Claudette, from California.
Your mother has told me you have been working on
our family tree. I've recently been dabbling into
myself. I don't know haw much you found out.Except,
apparently reading the board reply, you got a email
from our cousin Wallie, aunt Cecilia's son.
I was looking into the Ortega family first, andfound it to be much easier than the Avila family.
Apparently,mostly all the Avila's are from Michigan,
New York, Portugal and Mexico. It's obvious The
Avila surname origin is from Avila, Spain. But, when
they come over and what route they took either from
from Mexico or directly from Spain is still ques-
tionable. I found a strange coincidence
when I looked up the Ortega lineage. I had a former co-worker
who's last name is Lucero and she told me her father's
family is from New Mexico and the family, like ours,
has been there forever. We joked how we are probably
related. Well, today during my search, the Lucero
name came up. In the 1800's the two spouses were
born and married...Lucero and Ortega in NM and
had a son, who later married a Chavez. I was
told by our family members Chavez was another
family surname on grandpa Claudio side.And,
you know Lucero is not a common name esp. in
in that part of the nation. Small World. I
hope you keep continue the research. I would
really be interested to find out what you found
discovered. I like to do more research myself,so email me...

today also that the origin of the Ortega
surname is from the

PEDRO HERRERA AVILA Pedro was born on August 1, 1915, in Hobbs, New Mexico. He went to live with his Lord and Savior on Friday, December 1, 2006, at the age of 91, in Anchorage, Alaska. A very quiet and loving man, he loved to walk every day, that was his passion. Pedro retired from Kingsburg Cotton Gin Company. hi, I'm looking for info about Natalia Avila. She probably was born in Guanajuato, maybe Salamanca.

She had a brother (Loreto Avila) and a sister (Patrocinia Avila).

Later, Natalia married Patrocinio Amezcua and had two children: Jesus and Feliciano Amezcua Avila, who happens to be my grandfather.

hi, I'm looking for information about my great-grandmother, Natalia Avila, who is probably from Guanajuato, as she married my great-grandfather Patrocinio Amezcua.

They had at least two children: Feliciano and Jesus.

Natalia had a sister named Patrocinia Avila and a brother named Loreto Avila. I don't know anything else, but maybe you can help me to know more about Natalia.

Juan Pablo Luna is the brother of my grandfather Casimiro Luna . I have the birth record for Profiria that shows the parents as Ynez Avila and Cruz Garcia. I have documents tracing the family back to (at least) Juan de la Torre the founder of Tepetongo. I would be very interested in any information about your family and if you ever go to La Fiesta in Juanchorrey?

I am researching my Great Grandfather Joaquim Machado Pereira (born 1850 in Urzelina Sao Jorge). He came to Australia as a young man - we believe on a whaling vessel via Hawaii. He died in Sydney in 1925. His parents appear to have been Christiano and Vitorina. He also had a step-mother Roza and a number of brothers and sisters whose names we do not know. Obviously some of you have had success in researching records but so far I have been unable to find a way through. Can any of you please advise? It would be just great to find someone who knows this family.

Hello!

My name is Karina and I am also related to the Avilas in Juanchorrey. My great grandmother was Consuelo Avila Acevedo and I know that her father's name was Daniel.

My mother goes down to Juanchorrey 2-3 times a year and is involved with a southern california non-profit that has raised funds to improve roads and possibly get new bathrooms for "la cancha." I have always been fascinated with finding other Avilas. I know that there is also a connection to the last name Carlos and that there is a cluster of relatives near Ventura and the surrounding areas.

Genoveva Avila is my grandmother, she was born 3 Jan 1900 or 1901 in Jerez,Zacatecas,Mexico - Her parents are Ines Avila and Maria Cruz Barrios.
