I am always looking for new information!! Your great-grandparents are my g-g-grandparents. Their son, Bennie, was my grandfather's father.

I have a good bit of information about Gustav and Augusta, except where they are buried. I am still looking for information about Gustav's parents.

Do you happen to have a picture of their gravesite or of their children? I am always looking for new pictures to fill in the gaps in my database. I don't have too many pictures from that long ago, but I do have pictures of Bennie and Oscar (gravesite) if you are interested in those.

The best I can tell, Gustav and Augusta immigrated to the US from Sweden in 1892. They arrived in Philadephia and seemed to move directly to Manistee, MI. I'm not sure why, they may have had other family in the area. They had 10 children, among them, my g-grandfather, Bennie Gustav.

Email me at rebeccamayhall@hotmail.com and we can compare more information!!

I'm not sure if you're still looking for information re: this inquiry.

My great-grandfather was Gustav Ax. He is buried in the cemetary in Manistee, Michigan. On his gravestone, his name is spelled "Gustaf", and also shows the dates 1867-1937. My great-grandmother is also on the same gravestone. Her name was Augusta, and the dates were 1868-1949.

I have no information on Emanuel or Mary, but would be interested in any other information that you have re: Gustaf/Augusta.

Thanks!

Ann Komorowski

I am looking for information on Emanuel (b. 1838 in Sweden) and Mary Ax. They immigrated from Sweden about 1887. He is listed on the Manistee, MI census in 1900, 1910 and 1920 as living with his son, Gustav R. Ax.

I am just wondering if anyone else can verify or add to this information!

I am also curious as to where they are buried, because I cannot find burial records on either them, or their son Gustav.

Adam Ax

I have a photo of a man named Adam Ax. I just stumbled upon an Adam Ax in ancestry in 1880, District 142, Washington, Daviess, Indiana:

Father: William born 1828 in Ohio parents were born in Holland
Mother: Margret born 1833 in Ohio, father born in PA, mother in VT
Siblings: John b. 1863 (17), ELVENIA b. 1869 (11), and Ulysses b. 1872 (8)
John and Adam were born in Ohio, Elvenia and Ulysses in Indiana.
Adam was born 1865.

Tuscarawas, OH 1860 entry:
William Ax b. 1830 (30)
Margaret b. 1833 (27)
Sarah A. (2)
Mary E. (9 months)

Living next door was:
Elizabeth Ax b. 1833 (31) Doesn't show relationship between Elizabeth and Andrew. Age doesn’t make sense here.
Andrew (20)
Isaac (10)
Mary A. (5)
William S. (2)

Does anyone know of any of these families and if they are connected? I am a descendant of Joseph Ax and Elizabeth Irwin of Tuscawaras, OH.

It was taken on April 27, 1904. One of the students listed on the back is May AX and she looks about 14 or 15 years of age, probably born around 1890.

Re: Elizabeth Keller Ax (Tuscarawas Co. OH)

I can't tell you much about Elizabeth Keller. What little I know is derived from census records, and some brief biographical notes dealing with the children (see, for example, the sketch of Isaac Ax available at http://www.heritagepursuit.com/Tuscarawas/TuscarawasBWayne.h... ).

Summarizing the census data:

In 1850, she is listed in William Ax's household, but still under the name of Elizabeth Keller. Age is given as 22, birthplace is Ohio.

In 1860, her name is given as Elizabeth Ax,. Her age is given as 31, and birthplace is again Ohio.

By 1870, she seems to have disappeared. Her children, Mary A., and WIlliam Eli Ax, both appear in the Daniel Zigler household in Franklin Township. Mary, age 14, is described as a "domestic servant", but her brother is "at home".

I have neven been able to locate any marriage record for William Ax and Elizabeth Keller. This may have been a common-law marriage, but I don't know for sure.

That's about all I know. So she was apparently born somewhere in Ohio around 1829, and she may have died in the 1860s.

Sharon, thanks for answering my inquiry. Your Ax ancestry is the same as mine.Johann Joesph Ax and his wife, Maria Anna Fischer were my great grandparents. My grandfather, John Ax was Elizabeth's brother. I obtained much information on the Ax family from an interview that I conducted with Mildred Ax of Edwardsville in 1980, including some info on Elizabeth. Here's what she provided to me in writing.See if it matches what you have. "Elizabeth married a Mr. Dietz and they had one daughter. She(i assume Mildred means the daughter) married and had a son. In fact, she was married twice, her first husband was killed. The son by her second husband , Ben Breve. Edna and Ben are both deceased and Robbie is in a home. Aunt Lizzie remarried Joseph Fencel. They had a son John -- now deceased and 2 daughters Joesephine(State Hospital for about 50 years as a result of rape) and Louise(??) Crook - Louise had one son and one daughter."
Sharon, would you be willing to share a copy of the newspaper article or tell me where you got it and I can get a copy. Edwardsville newspaper? I have about a 5-6 pagehand written letter from Mildred that I would be happy to share if you wish.
e:mail me direct at KDSRGN@aol.com

I have some information on Archibald Ax that married Grace Ermon Clabourn in Arkansas County, Arkansas in 1896. Grace was a sister to my great-grandfather, Cornelius Clabourn. I think this Archibald in my tree belongs to Joseph and Mary Ann Ax. Would like to share information.

Re: Ax/ Axe in Ohio

William Ax and Barbara Barkey were my ggg-grandparents. William was born 17 August 1806 and died 26 March 1858. Barbara was born 24 March 1823 and died 30 August 1848. They were married 2 February 1837 in Holmes County, Ohio. (Yes, those dates are correct. Barbara was indeed not quite 14 years old when they married.) They lie buried in Wilmot Cemetery, in Stark County, Ohio; the grave markers are in excellent condition and quite readable (that's the source of the birth and death dates given above).

William and Barbara had five children. Two of them (Susan, b. 1839 and Anna, b. 1842) died in infancy. The other three were Eliza (b. 1838; m. Jonathan Reese [that's my line]), Andrew (b. 1840, m. Clarissa Reed), and Isaac (b. 1841, m. Cynthia Ann Ax [yes, it appears that Ax was her maiden name; but I don't know if they were related; this appears to be the line you are following]).

After Barbara's death, William married Elizabeth Keller, and fathered 2 more children: William E. (b. 1858, m. Arminda Resh) and Mary Ann (m. George Manson). He died when his son William was only 2 weeks old.

William lived most of his adult life on a farm in Wayne Township, Tuscarawas County, between the villages of Dundee and Beach City. The adjoining farm in the 1850 census is owned by a Jacob Ax, who was probably a brother.

Ax/ Axe in Ohio

Hi,
I have traced back lines to the Ax and Axe names in Ohio. The first is William Ax whose birth date according to census would be around 1811 in Ohio, he had three children, Eliza, Andrew, and Isaac, is widowed at the time of census, not sure of wife, possibly Barbara Berky? The other line is back to Henry Axe, born about 1811, also in Ohio, who married Elizabeth, 3 children are shown on census, Thomas, Wm Mck., and Cynthia, any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kris

I have an Archaball (note spelling) who was born Aug. 10, 1874 that was the son of Joseph (Aug 11, 1836) and Mary Ann Dealy/Deely (Dec. 4, 1838). Archaball was the brother to William, my great-grandfather. If you email me at judithakies@aol.com, I would be happy to share the information I have. Joseph's parents are John Ax and Elizabeth Irwin.

I was surprised (delighted) to find that they belonged to the Church of the Latter Day Saints, which is where I have been able to find much of my information (www.familysearch.org). Archaball is also listed on their website.
