Mary:
I was able to get to the genealogy library yesterday and found a couple of things you may be interested in:
1. Simon Aicock spelled his name with an "I", not a "Y" per the census of 1790. He was shown in Newbern District, Wayne County, North Carolina on page 149, as having 1 fwm of 16 or over, 2 fwm under 16 and 6 fwf! There is also a Jesse Aicock in the same district. This is interesting because of the many Aycocks in Wayne County who did spell their name with a "Y".....one of them being Jesse Aycock. Thus the source of the confusion between the Jesse's. There is a very good book on the Aycocks at the library that includes many of those listed in this message board.
Another interesting item: Burrell Aycock is shown as Borrel Aycoc and Borrel Aycoe on 2 of the Assumption Parish census ....
Also, the Terrebonne Society Life Lines shows that Burrell's son Joseph Married Amanda Baker in 1851, then later married Elvire Daspit in 1857.
I would be very interested in any other information you may have on Jean Baptiste Evariste Berteau.....he is also in my direct line and I have not been able to locate anything on him. I did find a will from 1794 of Marie Goguet, wife of Augustin Berteaux who died 19 June 1794....she shows her son as being Baptiste, age 10. She also has several other children. Just wondered if you have come across any of this info.
Thanks.
