I need information about the African American Aycocks/Aycoxs from Oglethorpe, GA Wolfskin District
In the 1910 Census, they lived on Oconee River Road There was also a white Aycock family in the same census living on the same road.
If anyone from either family can help me, I would appreciate it
I'm trying to find out any information about my grandfather Earl Aycock/Aycox and his mother Mat/Mattie Aycock
Earl was born in Oglethorpe Co, GA approx 1888/89 He married a Daisy Witcher and they left GA sometime between 1920 and 1930; moved to Gadsden, AL I've heard some tales about why he left but have no evidence to support the story.
In the 1900 census and beyond Earl's mother; Mattie/Mat Aycock is listed as widowed but I can't find anything about a husband Mattie/Mat Aycock was born somewhere around 1865 or later.
In the 1900 census her children are listed as Mose, Inus, Earl (my grandfather), Eva and Marie.
In the 1910 census Earl is married to Daisy and in his own household; Inus is married to a Vera and in his own household. Mat Aycock still has her own household and has the following children at home, Babe (sp?), Eva, Marie, Homer, Lula, Vance and Agnes. They all live on Oconee River Road at the time of that census
In the 1920 Census her name is spelled as Mattie Ayecock and her children are listed as a Homer, a daughter whose name I can't make out, Lula, Vance, Agnes and Florene (?)
The only names that I have ever heard from my father (Earl's son) are Earl's and his brother's, Homer. I don't know anything about the Aycock/Aycox's from my grandfather's generation or my great-great grandmother's generation. I would really love to find someone who knows something about this family.
All of my father and his siblings are now deceased and didn't leave us hardly any information to go on
