Ayers of Enfield, Hartford, CT

It has come to my attention that the Jane Ayers who married David Belknap in Enfield, CT, on 23 Dec 1790 probably is not the Jane Ayers who was born 5 Jul 1756, Voluntown, New London, CT (as is shown in many family trees). I had wondered about this because of several inconsistencies: (1) Jane would have been too old in 1813 (at 57) to have given birth to their youngest daughter, Aurilla, (2) the 1830 census indicates that Jane was younger than David (who was b. 1760), and (3) Voluntown is not very near Ellington, where David was from, or Enfield, where they married. Recently, I noticed that the Voluntown Jane Ayers is shown by other sources as having married Andrew J. Eliot in 1774 in Voluntown and having a large family with him. A check of FamilySearch IGI shows another Jane Ayers or Eyers ca. 1762 in Enfield or b. 1764 in Ellington who married David Belknap. This Jane would be the right age and from the right part of the state. "Early Connecticut Marriages" also shows a Hannah Ayers being married in Enfield in 1796, who could be from the same Ayers family.

Can anyone shed any light on this? In particular, I haven't seen any sources that definitively linked the Voluntown Jane Ayers to the Jane Ayers who married David Belknap in Enfield; does anyone know of such sources? Or does anyone know of an Ayers (Eyers) family in Enfield?

Note: David and Jane went from CT to VT and then to Harrison Co., OH, where both died in 1832.

Josephus was my ancestor.

Josephus migrated to Daviess/Missouri circa 1853/54, Perry to Fulton/Illinois circa 1850s, and Samuel to Johnson/Missouri circa 1870.

The mother was Ruth Morris, later Ruth Jobes, b. 1790 MD.
Josephine Ayers

I'm looking for information on the family of my great grandmother, Josephine Ayers.

She was born February 20, 1902 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She died June 15, 1986 in Corry, Pennsylvania. When she died she was the Widow of Charles Lusk (who died in 1960).

She had also been married to a man with the last name of Wheelock, and also a Smith. It was Smith with whom she had my grandfather Tom Herbert Smith. (It is believed his fathers name was Herbert.)

It is also believed that she had another child, a daughter, who passed in a housefire. However we do not know what house, or the daughters name. We also don't know who the father of her daughter would have been.

Grandma Jo, as everyone called her, managed the Chautauqua County Humane Society for many years. I've also been told she worked in (and may have owned) her own restaurant.

When she passed, according to her obit, she had 2 siblings surviving; a brother James Ayers and a sister Annie Lane, both of Chattanooga.

Some time ago, someone pointed me in the direction of a possible family link, but I was unable to take it any further. So I'm reposting this to update the search. Anything you might be able to tell me will help. Perhaps someone here might be relatives of her last surviving siblings.

There must be more than one of him - and in Hardeman Co TN and Montgomery Co ARK none the less!
I have Thomas Jefferson Ayers b 1831 TN as the son of Daniel Ayers and Mary (Polly) McFadden, who were married in March 1812 or March 1813 in Wilson Co, TN. Am I wrong????

I've been researching the Ayers line for about 6 yrs now and it gets worse the farther back you go!
I wondered if there is an Ayers site at www.myfamily.com ?
I have a few old pictures and some documents I'd post if there were.
This line confuses me.

Carmen
My GEDCOM is at:
www.rootsweb.com,
www.gencircles.com,
and www.geocities.com/oneofakind.geo/surnames.htm

Take a look or download it!

Moses AYERS, N.C. & OH

According to the family Bible, this is how the line goes: Moses AYERS, father of Jacob AYERS; Jacob was the father of Moses AYERS, who married Elizabeth FLAHARTY on 22 Nov 1818. The family eventually ended up in Ohio, but the Bible lists no locations!

Moses and Elizabeth had the following children:
Moses Jacob AYERS b 25 Aug 1819 m Frances WRIGHT 16 Aug 1836
Parmelia AYERS b 11 Aug 1821 m Plummer T. WRIGHT 16 Aug 1836
Lycurgus AYERS b 25 Feb 1830 m #1 Martha HESKET 16 Aug 1853, #2 Mary Louise HALL VAN HORNE 18 Apr 1875.

I have seen other people's research that indicates this family may have been from New England, possibly Moses Sr. went to SC, then NC. It seems perhaps Jacob or Moses Jr. went to Ohio sometime in the early 1800s

I have further info on children of these AYERS, and other AYERS in the family Bible which had been passed to my grandmother, and I consider this Bible info to be accurate. I'm looking for any other researchers of this AYERS line, or related lines.
Does anyone know of an Ayers family from Va. originally , moved at some point to Tn. , middle Tn., and before 1850 moved on to Mo. and stayed there or at least part of them. This is in the southeast section of Mo.. The following are the names found in this area, all Ayers: Elikum Cornelius (went by Lyke) b 1848-49 middle Tn., Marion G. b 1860 Mo., Joseph, William, John and Elihu. Any and all help appreciated, I do know for fact that Elikum and Marion were brothers. Trying to find parents and siblings and since they came so early thought possibly one of the above could be.
Nathaniel Ayers/Ayres of New Jersey

Does anyone know what evidence was relied on to state that Nathaniel Ayers/Ayres of New Jersey died on 12 Feb 1777?

He was apparently born at Woodbridge, Middlesex County, NJ, on March 4, 1700. (I don't know yet whether that date should be stated as 1699/1700 or 1700/1701.)

The burial records posted by the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church indicate that an Ayers died on that day, but it wasn't Nathaniel. It was Jonathan Ayers who died on 12 Feb 1777.

Here is an excerpt from the listing posted on their web page:

Cemetery Burial Records, Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church
http://www.brpc.org/index.php?module=ContentExpress&func...

Ayers, John Esq., b.1690, d. October 4, 1759
Ayers, John, b.1765, d. September 4, 1815
Ayers, Jonathan, b. 1703, d. February 12, 1777
Ayers, Jonathan, b. 1738, d. April 19 1814
Ayers, Nathaniel - X, b. 1768, d. September 17, 1806

Jackson Woodruff - Lumanda Ayers

Please help me. I am the great-great grandaughter of Jackson (AKA Ebenezer) Woodruff. Jackson was born between 1832 and 1840 most likely in Delaware County, Pennsylvania.

I do know that he married a Miss Lumanda "Amanda" Ayers on April 1st, 1866. At this time they were both living in Honeybrook Township, Chester County, PA. They were married by Reverend Daniel Myers.

Lumanda was born in July 1845. I am not sure of her parents but I suspect that they are John and Mary Ayres. If anyone knows for sure, I would greatly appreciate this information as well. Lumanda died 26 Jan 1913 and is buried at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Honeybrook, Chester County, Pennsylvania.

Jackson died on April 13, 1904. He is buried in St. Mark's Episcopal Cemetery in Chester County, PA.

He had three sons - Edward Woodruff, John Woodruff, and Levi Hart Woodruff (AKA Horace Woodruff). Edward and John ultimately moved to Michigan. Horace stayed in Pennsylvania and married several times.

I am descended from Horace. Jackson is my "brick wall" ancestor. Any help or tips would be greatly appeciated!

Tracey Woodruff-Brown

Ayers/Morris Families of Douglasville, Ga.

I have some very nice and very old pictures of Morris family members of Douglasville, Ga. that I would like to get to the right person. I specifically would like to find a descendant of Oney (Morris) Ayers and Zeb Ayers or a descendant of Oney's brothers James Edwin Morris or W. Lee Morris. Oney's parents were William Lumpkin Morris and Alice Tapp Morris. My aunt married one of Oney's children, they only had one son and he died at age 14. The pictures are great and I want them in someone's hands who will appreciate them. If you can help me find the right descendant I know that they would appreciate your efforts.

Regards,

John Allen

Help: Sallie Ayers Simpson Ayers?

Folks,

I have a tough one here. The family Bible shows a Sallie Ayers marrying a Gus Wall, from Tippah Co., Miss., and having a child George
Wall Sep 22, 1879 in Miss. I have verification from relatives on Gus and his spouse.

I am trying to tie this to the Ayers in the Bill Clinton line also of Tippah Co., Miss. They are

Simpson Ayers, b. 1820 Ire.
Children:
Robert Ayers, b. Tippah Co., Miss.
Lou Birchie Ayers, b. 1893 Tippah Co., Miss.

Having the same last name and being in Tippah Co., Miss. is too much to be co-incidence. Sallie could be a MUCH younger sister of
Simpson, a MUCH older sister of Lou, or the child of an unknown sibling of Simpson.

Please help... If you have any info, please e-mail me at

DrewSpen@Imagin.Net

FOUND this old obit while searching old papers:

The Lincoln Daily Journal-Tues. May 2, 1882 #267

LAID TO REST

At 2 p.m. yesterday the last Christian and fraternal rites were performed over the mortal remains of Richard F. Ayers. When the hour for holding the services arrived Mr. Pulaski lodge of Mason's, and a large concourse of Logan County's citizens had assembled through deference and respect for the deceased and sympathy for the bereaved family. The pastor of Mt.Pulaski Baptist church conducted the religious services and preached an eloquent funeral sermon. Afterwards the Masons recited their beautiful rites and the earth closed forever over the body of Richard F. Ayers. #

Hope this is useful to someone researching Ayers.

Nathaniel Ayers of Ohio

I am looking for any information on Nathaniel and Elizabeth Ayers of Tuscarawas County, Ohio. Both were born in NJ. Nathaniel abt 1786 and Elizabeth abt 1779. Elizabeth's last name unknown but may be Hendershot. They appear on the 1820 Census, Tuscarawas Cnty; 1830 Census Muskingum Cnty; then 1840 thru 1870 back in Tuscarawas Cnty. I believe there were two sons, Jacob born 1813-1817 in NJ, then Nathaniel, Jr. born 1823 in Ohio. Nathaniel would be my 4th great-grandfather. I have information that Jacob married Mary Petty born abt 1818 in VA and had a son, Aaron Ayers that married Elizabeth Throckmorton.

Any information would be so very grateful as I have come to a dead end. There seem to be several Nathaniel Ayers married to Elizabeth but I am so hoping to get verification of my family line.

AYERS Melvin Edward , obit , 1919 CA. - 2007 CA.

not related - for your info only
Daily Press, Victorville, San Bernardino, CA
15 April 2007 , B2

MELVIN AYERS

Melvin Edward Ayers made his transition on April 12, 2007. He has resided in the High Desert since 1984. Melvin was born Aug. 3, 1919, in the Boyel Heights district of Los Angeles. His parents were Frank and Mable Ayers of English and Pachunga Native American descent. Being a native Californian, Mel attended Sheridon Elementary School, Hollenbeck Junior High and Manuel Arts High School, graduating in 1938.
At an early age, Mel was known as “The Paper Boy” of his neighborhood which continued throughout his school years, including his time at Los Angeles City College. After he attended Frank Wigging Trade School, his expertise in welding and sheet metal work spanned a career of 42 years. During Mel’s four years in the U.S. Navy, he played the trumpet, waking up the troops with his bugle.
Being a very active and dedicated man, Mel joined the Masons in 1946, then the Shriners in 1958, which included the Band and Bugle Corp. He truly loved his volunteer work; he received the Hiram Award from the Masons in 1999. This award is the highest award for service given to a fellow Masonic brother.
Additionally, he joined the Citrus Shrine Clowns in 1972; he was known as “Mello” and worked with the International Clown Association. Mello contributed many hours to the endeavor of raising funds for the Sneaker Fund Burns Institute. He traveled to various Shrine Clubs lecturing and meeting with burn-injured children while entertaining them with his various costumes, displays and tricks. He conducted numerous recycling fund raisers. In 1984, he gained national recognition in the International Clown Association in Las Vegas. Some of Mel’s best times were with his colleagues at clown conventions.
Since Mel’s retirement, move to the High Desert and loss of his wife, Ana Ebe, he met and married Ann Marie, his wife of 15 years. He was active with the Victorville Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star. Both Mel and Ann Marie have been organists for these organizations and have worked hand-in-hand with fund raiser projects for the Masons. Additionally, Mel was Chaplin for the Apple Valley Shrine Club in 1997 and has been active with the club to the present time. He and Ann Marie have enjoyed recent conventions and travels. They also have been members of the Hi Desert Church of Religious Science in Apple Valley.
Mel’s hobbies and activities throughout his life have included music (trumpet, piano and organ), wood carving, dancing, theater, being a member of the Jess Ranch Players, bowling, Scrabble games and his good ‘ole story-telling.
Mel is survived by his wife, Ann Marie, of Apple Valley; step-daughters Sally and son-in-law Don Huth of Tustin, Kathy and son-in-law Bob Schwenker of Canyon Country; Lorlynn Dee and son-in-law Dave Boening of Yorba Linda; Wendy Micham of Apple Valley; Brenda and son-in-law Tom Rakoske of Green Castle, Pa.; 11 step-grandchildren and 21 stepgreat-grandchildren.
A viewing visitation will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Victor Valley Mortuary with services following at 10 a.m. The services will be conducted by the Victorville Masonic Lodge Foxcoats, Daylight 842.
Does anyone have a Bertha Ayers who was the first wife of Frank Collins. Frank would have been the son of Joseph P. and Lulu May Parosns Collins and born on June 16, 1915 in Genesee, Potter Co., PA.
I am trying to find out something about the Joseph P. Collins family. Lulu Parsons Collins would have been the sister of my grandfather, Clarence Lyzurne Parsons.

Wensdor "Alton" Ayers/Ayres-MS

looking for info on the Ayers/Ayres family of MS-Attala Co. It is believed that Alton Ayers was the son of John Lunsford(Lansford) Ayers of Kosciusko, MS. He has a brother named Rodney Ferrell Ayers who lived in Kosse, TX (Limestone CO). Putting together the puzzle, it looks like they had a step-sister named Joseph Ann Andrews . She m. a Duncan L. Murff according to the Murff family. A Joseph A. Murff wife of D.L.Murff is buried in Ebenezer Cem in Kosse Tx. Alton was a Railroad Conductor in Palestine TX in 1889. He and his wife Mamie lived there in a boarding house for a short time, then moved to Mena and Ashdown, AR and then to Haileyville,OK where he died. Any info on any of these people would be great. Please mail me at dddmdoss@cs.com. I don't check this forum daily. Thanks Shelby
