Hope in time to discover which Ayres/Ayers lines we connect with past George b 1802 married to Ruth.

hey pam

thanks for your message i am just sending you an email as well.

I havn't as yet been able to do a lot of research on John Lofts. From the info that i already have is that John and Mary lived together before they were married and possible had children out of wedlock.
It is most intriguing though that there as of yet has been no further documentation of Sarah Ayres or Mary Ayres, John's mother.
With the Halladay surnames being spelt differently as is Ayres it is very hard and confusing at times, which one it might be. Persons filling out forms would have spelt them to which they thought was right. On the documentation of the family's arrival in Victoria they have the surname spelt as Holliday. This is because Sarah's sister Ann [aged 20] emigrated at the same time, on the same ship 'Monteagle'. This comes from the Victorian Public Records Office online search.

Thank you Pat. Since posting the message, I've received William's death certificate, obituary, and been in contact with a distant cousin found on Ancestry. Per his death certificate, William's parents were Edwin Thomas and Margaret (Black) Ayres. I found William's photo on the Los Angeles City Fire Dept. archives. He was Captain. Also, found him in the Los Angeles voter's registration. Like you, I haven't found him or his parents on the 1900 census. William moved to Los Angeles most likely around 1907. I glean from his Obit that he had family in Philadelphia at the time of his death.

Kathleen

I saw William E. in 1910. I found a WW1 Draft Registration for William Edward Ayres 28
b. Aug 13, 1888 McKeesport, PA
City Fireman (LA)
Wife & child / married.

I also found a family history on Ancestry.com. It does not show his parents. I found a SS death record for
William Ayres
b 13 August 1887
death Apr 1945
SS# 570-20-7707
Issued in California.

I did some searching in the McKeesport area in the 1900 census. There are lots of Ayres/Ayers, but no William E with a dob of 1888.

I contacted (through Ancestry) the owner of the family tree and told them about your query. Perhaps they will post a response.

Good hunting.
Pat Hovell

Hi Samantha

I too am trying to do research on John Lofts Ayres and his family. I have found them coming into Victoria on the "Monteagle"in 1853 and at that time Sarah was listed as 27 years old... which would work for the birth date I have for her of 6th December 1825 ( the ship arrived in April)

I have found Geogre Ayres Birth with his mother Listed as Haliday - Sarah. I've found George Thomas' birth with her listed as Sarah Holiday but I have her down as Sarah Halladay and her Frather Robert Halladay Mother Ann Barnes.

I have found only one Sarah Ayres dying in Victoria and the dates don't quite gel and there her parents are listed as Richard Corbett and Mary Hamus.

I also found John Lofts Ayres 2nd Marriage confusing. Well maybe cause I can't find it. I have Frederick George Ayres being born in 1865 to John Lofts Ayres and Mary Crow. Any information you have on this I would love to know.
I also have the marriage of Naomi Ayres and the death of Mary Lofts just shoot me an email and we can confer on this.
looking forward to hearing from you
pamspost@yahoo.com.au

Pam

hello

I am researching into John Ayres family at the moment. In particular his first wife. I have her noted as a Sarah Olliver b.1815 but so far have come up with no other information. He emigrated with his family to Victoria in 1853. I have looked at other connected trees and they note her last name as Haliday/Holiday. I am interested in why I have the different last name, if it was her maiden or another marriage name.
I was also wondering if any living Ayres in Witcham, Downham or Ely in Cambridgeshire have any information they would like to pass on.
I was recently in England but missed on the chance to go to Witcham.

thanks

I know this was an old posting, hope you are still interested, but I just found it... I know those graves, they are in the old Crosswicks Methodist Cemetery at the beginning of the Ellisdale Road leading out of Crosswicks toward Ellisdale and Walnford. Here is my note on them, read from stones about 10 years ago - "Tombstone at the old Crosswicks Methodist cemetery at the beginning of the road to Ellisdale - reads - Father Levi E. Ayres, Co B. 6 Reg NJ Vol Feb. 18, 1843 - Nov 8, 1900, had veterans flag, is high in the cemetery, right center, next to Sarah, wife of James Ayres. July 20 1849, then Thomas Newell .....(son of?)... (?).L, Ayres July 26?, 1849 (?year), age 3 months, empty space to right of his stone, Levi's parents graves are higher up hill, need to find cemetery records for other family members. The cemetery is old, a former caretaker told me that many old broken stones had been piled at the edge of the cemetery, but they are no longer there."
I have a bunch on the family, my grandmother was the daughter of Levi Elwood Ayres' youngest sister Anna. I have a packet (about 30?) letters from him, about 26 original and 4 copies of ones that my cousin has the originals, from the Civil War. My great grandmother Anna Ayres Dilatush had saved my 26 and they passed from to her daughter Mary Lavinia Dilatush Gardner and to my mother Phebe to me. I also found in with the letters the cemetery deed for the plot up the hill higher in the Cemetery where John Richmond Ayres and his first two wives are buried, one being Levi Elwood Ayres mother, Elizabeth Hopper Ayres. I have Bible records from Elizabeth's Bible. I have a nice picture of Elizabeth holding Anna as a baby. Elwood taught school at the Edgebrook school on family land. They lived between Robbinsville and Yardville. He Crittenden College in Phila, evidently to learn accounting, and then enlisted in the NJ 6th. vol and served for 5 years I think, Gettysburg, etc.
I think that James was the brother of John Richmond Ayres and they were the sons of Hezekiah Ayres and Mary Ann Conk. I have alot more - Anita rclaytonsr@juno.com

My grandfather was a man of few words so I don't know a lot about his family, except from pictures and what my grandmother tells me. I would love to correspond even more, I have so many questions. What is the best way for you to do that? Does this work, or do you have an email? Again, I really look forward to hearing from you.
Meagan

I'll keep an eye out for David's parents from PA as I continue struggling with my own line. My PA ancestors were all forgemen from Chester/Lancaster Co.s, PA.
Hello again,
I would love to have more information and/or sources for your information about John Ayres (ca. 1766-aft 1810) and Jacob Ayres (ca.1729-after 1800).
I have been searching for the Ayres's of the Ringwood Forge area and Welsh Mountain for about 35 years, off and on. I do believe your line represents a breakthrough. I need to connect my 3rd great grandfather Jacob Ayres (10 April 1794-1881) with your line. I believe the father (David Ayers) of your David B. Ayres (1830-1905) may be the brother of my Jacob Ayres (1794-1881), and therefore our Common Ancestor may be your John Ayres (abt 1766-aft 1810). I have a copy of a will of a John Eyer of Warwick Twp., Lancaster Co., PA dated 27 October 1776 with a wife Catharina and several children listed, but am not certain of the connection with my line. I would be happy to pass it on, however. Also I have a whole lot of notes and acquisitions from other searchers accumulated over the years. I'll be happy to scan some of these and pass them on if you would like.
Do you have any sources/additional information about the children of John Ayres (abt1766-aft1810)? I am hoping there is an old family Bible or church reference somewhere. I would be happy to reimburse you for any time and expenses associated with such documentation.
Please feel free to connect directly through my personal email, if you prefer - frstrahl@gmail.com
Thank you for this great information and I really hope to hear more about your older Ayres line.
Susan Ayres Strahl

Meagan,
I was so shocked to see your posting, seeing my grandparents names and my uncles' name --your grandfather's name (Frank). Growing up, I only got to see or hear primarily about the brothers who were in Kansas and Nebraska. I heard some about the uncles who were in Oregon. And was able to meet the only sister your grandfather had, Gwen Ayres Grimes. Yesterday, I got out the family Bible that I have tried to keep up with, so I have some dates and names as well as personal memories.

I grew up in Nebraska, about 1 hours drive from Smith Center, Kansas. I remember Golda Phinney Ayres as a very "larger than life" person. She was always laughing and had a lot of energy. She passed away on 11.25.63. It was just a few days after the Kennedy assisination. We were told not to tell her about the assisnation because she loved President Kennedy so much. She died of cancer. My father's middle name was Phinney, which was her maiden name.

I am trying to remember your grandmother's first name. Since she is still alive, I don't want to invade her privacy. But does it start with the letter J.?
Sandra

Hello Naomi, Henry and Sarah P are my G G Grandparents also. Im a descendant from Albert(born c 1880). Henry came from Maidenhead, Berks and Sarah came from White Waltham, also Berks. They lived at 29 Cirencester St in Paddington, London c 1861. They then moved just around the corner (literally) to 61 Woodchester Square, Paddington c 1871. Henry was a Railway Guard (Harry, whose real name was also Henry, became a railway porter c 1880). They moved to Paddington, as a great many other people who worked on the railway did, because Paddington was a major Railway station. My family line is through Albert (who married Edith) through their son Edward Robert Ayres (who married Ivy Rose Richardson) then through their son David Edward Ayres (who married Eileen Rosina Dagnall). I hope this helps. I'm trying to find info prior to Henry and Sarah P.

I know my grandmother went to Dublin to work in service when she was about 16 and met and married my great grandad Patrick Byrne (21/3/1869 born) Would love to know if anyone has information re the Carbury history. Thanks

George Ayres

George Ayres lived in Marlborough Twp. Delaware Co. OH His wife's name was Margaret. He is buried in Wyatt Cemetery near Norton, OH. His son John married Elizabeth Gillett. John is also buried in Wyatt Cemetery. George & Margaret's daughter Katherine was born in NJ, but married Wm Osborn and lived near Waldo. George was born c1784,served in the War of 1812, and died in 1836. I have not been able to trace his ancestors. He had another son William and a daughter Louisa. His wife Margaret is in the 1850 census thus the anmes of Wm & daughter Louisa. There was another daughter and another son who were not named thus I don't know the name of William and John's other brother. Does anyone have ties to this family? Margaret Ayres may have gone with her daughter Louisa b 1830 to live near Norwalk OH, but I don't know where Margaret died or is buried.

Have you ever run across a George Ayres born in 1784? He married Margaret and their first child Katherine was born in NJ. He died in Delaware Co. OH in 1836. His eldest son was John Ayres so there is a possibility that George Ayres father was named John.
