Azure from USA and Lazure from french Quebec

Dear Azure cousins,

My name is Laurent Lazure. I am 60 years old, a retired educator living in the mostly French speaking part of Canada, the province of Québec. I can read and understand English, but writing correctly is another story, so I have asked a friend to translate this for me.

I would love to have more information about you, your immediate and extended families, and if at all possible, about your ancestors. I have every reason to believe we have shared a common ancestry since ...1730!!!

In 1731, a man named Michel Hazeur (+-1700-1788) whose name would later be transformed to Hazur, Azur, Lazure, married Marie Parenteau in a small parish near Montréal. They had 2 sons, Antoine and Joseph. Antoine will have thousands of francophone descendants whose name became Lazure. He is my direct ancestor.

Joseph Azure (1740+-1775) your ancestor, married Agathe Mandeville in Sorel QC in 1766. He spent most of his life trading furs in the Great Lakes’ region, and probably died there. Returning frequently to Sorel, he fathered 4 children, two of them boys. Joseph Jr. (1767-1832) and Antoine (1771-?). Both his sons followed in his footsteps, and along with working in the fur trade, worked as guides and interpreters. We can find traces of them throughout their lives along the Red River, and Pembina. They will eventually marry Native American women. Their descendants will be part of the great Métis family. Circumstances will bring members of the Azure family to Turtle Mountains, Belcourt, and Fort Belknap. These are events for which you and your families have more information than I.

I am currently working on completing a dictionary of the Lazure-Azure families of America. Any information (names, dates, photos...) would be greatly appreciated as it would help me make the link between Antoine, Joseph in the land of the Métis, and your generation.

My mother is Margaret (Beverly) Folster (Foster), nicknamed "Chucky" She is the daughter of Gabriel Folster and Mary Ann (Azure). She is the sister of Mae. My mother lived with Mae and Mike when she was younger after her parents death. She would be interested in any information of Mae's children, Morgan, Bruce (deceased), or Sandy. WOW! Finally a break. Moses Azure is my great great grandfather. Son of Antoine Azure #2 and Victoria Larivie. I don't have much on this side of the family other that what I've just found now posted beyond Antoine Azure #2. My grandmother doesn't remember any of this stuff anymore and didn't keep any records.

My great grandmother was Mary Azure. Her parents were Moses Azure and Margaret Campion. They were Turtle Mountain Chippewa. Moses' parents are Antoine (Antonine on my papers) #2 and Victoria Larivie (Carivie?) was wondering if this is the same lineage...any info you are able to give would be appreciated if so. That's as far as I got so far.

His father was Jean Azure and his mother was Elisa Swain Azure. He was killed in a car accident on the Tule Creek Bridge between Poplar MT. and Wolf Point Mt., in May of 1960. His mother a girl from the area where also killed in that accident. His uncle Roger Swain was also in it but he survived. All his sisters are still alive but his only brother died in 1981. I knew Patrick Azure and his daughter was Lori Azure she is younger than me and lived in Butte Montana. Her mother remarried. His brother's name was Floyd Hubert Azure and he also had 4 sister's Maxine, Viola, Mary, and Rosie. If you need any more information please reply

Joseph and Michel are sons of Jean-Baptiste Michel Hazeur and Madeleine Bibeau. I thought that some of you might find the following site interesting:

Also do you know any thing on Ma-Na-e-cha he or she was great grandfather 9 times. Antoine Azure is my great grandfather 8 times.Charlotte Peltier was my great grandmother 8 times.They had moses Azure who is also a relative. Go to the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation in North Dakota. Thats were all the family lives.Also on the Canadian Genelogy I found out that Ma-no-e-cha was a women named Lizze or Lizzie or Lizzie

Thank You so much for all the info. I am researching the same family for my boyfriend. I have Cecelia Azure Benoit married to James Folster. James had a son Gabriel Folster born 2/21/1896, Canada and married Mary Ann ??. Gabriel had a daughter Mae Folster married to Ralph Oscar Mikkelson. Mae is my boyfriends Grandmother.
His mother states that Mae and Gabriel lived on the Turtle Mountain Band Reservation. Ralph committed suicide and all the children were adopted out. Mae just recently died.

just a couple years ago i was told that my grandpa william azure who died in 1960, his gr or gr gr grandfather was a horse thief. he came down from the dakota's with his family and afraid of being caught and hanged he took up the name azure... who was originally lafleche. my grandmother doesn't know any of my grandpa's parents names or where abouts they came from. she can't recall his siblings names but a couple of his brothers names are morris, and antoine. if anyone out there has any information about my story or just anything that can give me any thought about my blood lines, it would be a great help. you can email me at molihomkr@msn.com RE:AZURE/LAFLECHE

A neighbor of mine who is Turtle Mtn Chippewa is interested in finding information about his grandfather James Azure and his mother Laura Azure who died in the 40's when he was young. He is Leo Eller and lives in Washington State. He says he is of the Pebbenau band (I'm not sure of spelling). Any help you would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Antoine Azure was my GGGGrandfather. He had a son Joseph who in turn had a Daughter Mary Rose then she had a daughter Vitaline my G grandmother and so on.

I don't know where Pete Azure fits into my family but, as far as I can tell one of the first Azure's in the Turtle Mountain area was Antoine Azure (b. 1797 St. Boniface, Manitoba) who married Charlotte Pelletier (b. 1775 Red River Colony, Manitoba). Their son Joseph Azure (b. 1827 Red River Colony) was married to Angelique Martel (b. 1842). They are my gr. gr. gr. grandparents. Just happened to be running through some names in my tree and came across your message. Antoine Azure b. 1794 and Charlotte Pellitier b.1792 were my grt-grt-grt-grt-grandparents.
Antoine's parents were Joseph Azure and Lizette
Ma-na-e-cha.
Charlotte's parents were Antoine Pellitier and Marguerite Sauteuse. According to my notes Antoine and Charlotte had 7 Children; Charles(he becomes Charles Sr. when his Charles is born) b. 1816 at St Boniface, Manitoba, Canada, d. 28 April 1907
Antoine, Jr.b. May 28, 1825 at Pambina, d.Jan.31,1914at Turtle Mt. North Dakota.
Josephte,b.1826. She married Antoine Brien
Joseph,b. 1826
Arsene (male),b. Nov.01, 1833
Moise(male) b. Mar.7, 1837
and Mary Ann b. 1838 at Red River.
Charles Azure( future Charles Sr.) married #1 Nancy Grant. Nancy was the Mother of the children. #2 Charlotte Allard, daughter of Ambroise Allard and Louise Descoteau. They were married Feb. 22, 1841 at St Francois Xavier, Manitoba, Canada.

They have a daughter, Adele Enno(Born Turtle Mountain in 1890) who was married to Joseph George Poitra
Adele and Joseph George had a daughter named Clara Rose Delia Poitra
She was married to Prosper Henry
Prosper and Clara are my parents.
