I am of Croatian descent born in South Africa. My late father born 1902 in Grabovac, Imotski, Dalmacia. There are several of us here in SA.
I have lost touch with Babaja cousins in Croatia from Zagreb, Split and Grabovac.
My late mother was a Cikes(Chickesh) from Sestanovac and my paternal grandmother was a Vrdoljak.
I have four married children and seven grandchildren. It would be wonderful to establish contact with long lost relatives.

Hello. My name is David Babayco. In the 60s and 70s, I did a lot of Babayco/Babajko research. I live in Sacramento. Michael Babayco is my younger brother. My great-grandparents were John and Matilda (Mattia Vlasanovic) Babayco/Babajko, who came from Ist, Yugoslavia. I am also related to Tony Babayco. He used to live in San Pedro, CA. I remember my father stopping by there to visit when I was growing up. I have family history on the Babayco/Babajko family. I'd be happy to share it with you.

My ancestry is: Father: Donald Babayco, Grandparents: John and Blanche Babayco, Great grandparents: John and Matilda Babayco. I am also related to the Androvich family here in Sacramento.

Hope to hear from you soon.

David

Hi Michael. You say Tony was your greatgrandfather but that is also the name of my grampa!... How could this be?? Lets talk! Grampa used to set us on his knee and tell us never to discrace our name. BABA means wise one or great one. It is from the Isle of IST off the Dalmatian coast. I tried to connect with Dean Babajko, who is a musician in New Jersey and whose parents still come and go from the old country but not having great success at his return responses. Maybe you could try. I live in Idaho - are you in California?

Babayco

What I can remember off of the top of my head (which means that osme of this might be incorrect...) is that my mother and brother
traced "Babayco" (or Babajko) back to a small island off the Dalmatian coast called Ist. I was told that the name means "oldest woman
settler"(???) I was also told that my family (including uncles, aunts, cousins) are all related to my great grandparents (Greatgrandfather's
name was Tony (?) who first came to Napa Valley, California in the 1890's. From there, the family spread to Sacramento, CA, San Pedro, CA, and
San Diego, CA. Now there are only a few male Babayco's to carry on the name. Where does Babaja come from and what does it mean? Do you have
more family here? Do you know of any other variations of Babayco/Babaja?

Well, I'm not sure which nationality Babaja is but my last name, an Americanized
Yugoslavian name, was spelled Babajko and probably had a "vich" on the end of it before
my great grandparents brought it over to America.
