This is all I know:
LEVI LUDDINGTON was born about 1759. In 1800 he and his wife OBEDIENCE BABBITT went to Canada. His friend ZACHARIAS BURTCH was also married to a BABBITT (possibly Jane or Abigail) They were later joined by another
sister and her husband (surname DIBBLE) as well as LEVI BABBITT (*probably* a brother,) and S. Francis Babbitt (?)

Apparently a family of Babbits lived for a short time in Ohio County, Kentucky near Fordsville. I have a picture on a card addressed to my mother and it is signed Eddie Babbit. I also have another picture not signed but it is of the same person. I have heard my mother talk about this family and I believe one of the young men was named Hallie. If anyone knows about this family, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Rueben Babbitt was my Great-Great Grandfather
his wife jeanne stephan came over from england as a child with her family.
My great grandmother was rueben and jeanne's
daughter Bernice Babbitt-Evans-Demoe.
My grandfather was bernice's son,
William F.Evans.
Rueben Babbitt was best friends with,
the indian chief David shoppegon,
who came to grayling from bay city michigan.
There is alot of Babbitt history in the grayling area. Check out the historical
museum in down town graylin michigan.

My Grandfather was Raymond A Babbitt son of Harvey Babbitt. Yes we are related. I am kind of new at all of this geneology stuff but I am a fast study This year I have the honor of setting up for this years family reunion. My question for all out there is when was the first Babbitt reunion held at the Algonac State park in Michigan. My cousin Jeff Babbitt jokes that i shas been likee 999 years. We do have a picture around 55years old at that site. any help would be great. Seems like we should call the reunion the Harvey Babbitt Reunion. I have worked with a man I just found we have the same great grand father Harvey Babbitt. What a hoot.

I am now working on another family member. This is all new to me and I am pretty much lost on all this....
I am looking for info on my gggrandfather. He was only known as "Babbitt" to his family. He was married to Sarah E. Babbitt. Her name may have been Hill before she married him. They married in 1861 in Texas. We know a little of her, she was born in Alabama, November 7, 1838 and died in Texas, was buried in Pipe Creek Cemetery in Pipe Creek,TX.
If my research is correct, his name might be J.A.Babbitt born 1837 in Illinois. They had several children, the only names I have that I know is correct is Sarah A. and Benjamin, and Henry Jarred (my grandfather).
Somewhere around 1880 I lose track of him. The 1880 Census lists Sarah E. Babbitt as being a widow. However, the only family member I can question about this tells me he remembers hearing of Babbitt living past that time and perhaps was an attorney in south Texas. He thinks maybe Babbitt just left Sarah E.Babbitt.
My gggrandfather Babbitt seems to disappear around that time. He may have been in the military but I am not sure. I have been unable to get to obituary records. (Maybe I just don't know how) I think he stayed in TX.
Can you help me determine if "Babbitt" was J.A. Babbitt? Also, do you find him anywhere after the Census lists Sarah E. Babbitt as a widow? .

Looking for source for information that stated Simeon and Mary were prisoners on the Prison Ship HMS Jersey and died there in the New York Harbor ( Wallabout bay on East River in Long Island, New York). I have looked at the listings of names on the ship and they are not listed. I believe the information came from a Robert Suddath of Littleton Colorado, but it didn't say where he got the information from here is what i have Simeon Babbitt b: 16 March 1738/39 d: 1799 on board the prison ship Jersey, Mary Ashley b: abt 1744 d: on the ship date of death not given. many of the bodies were dumped in the muck that would later become the harbor and for years the tide would wash up the bleached bones of the dead, years later many were transferred to Fort Green Park in Brooklyn where a memorial was dedicated) Simeon is the son of Nathaniel Babbitt and Jane Long they were from Berkley, Bristol, Mass. This is my 5th great grandparents. their children are:

I have noticied in several sources where William is listed as a son of Harrison Babbitt and Rachel Welch Babbitt. In the 1860 census he is listed in their household but in looking at his age I believe he is Rachels brother.His age is close to hers .Harrison was married to Susan Frensley first and she died some time after 1850. Ann and Benjamin are in the census with Harrison and Susan. Benjamin is my great-great grandfather.
The census I used was for Tennessee and they were living in Columbia,Maury,Tenn.
Harrison and Rachel went to Texas after 1870.

I am researching the family mentioned in the book "Deacon Babbitt a Tale of Fact and Fiction" by Edgar G. Blankman (Printed 1906)

So far, I have established that the family did, in fact, live in Northern NY at the time said in the book. But, I am wanting to learn some more information about them and thier ancestors and decendants if any.

This is what I have so far:

Orland Babbitt b: Abt 1817 - 1819 d. Oct 31, 1884
His headstone states he was 66 at his death. The census says he was 51 in 1870.

Elizabeth Babbitt b. abt 1823 d. Oct 11, 1855
Estimated birth year from her age at death from her headstone (32 years) 1st wife of Orland.

Mary J Babbitt b. abt 1834 d. abt 1881
Head stone damaged but says she was 47 when she died. 1870 census says she was 36.

Alden Babbitt b. abt 1847 d. Jan 20, 1890
Was listed as 23 on the 1870 census. Son of Elizabeth & Orland (Name reads 'Aldin' on stone 'Alden on census)

Elizabeth Babbitt b. abt 1860 d. dec 13, 1880
Aged 20 years on stone was 10 at 1870 census. Daughter of Mary and Orland.

Eliza F Risley b. abt May 7, 1851 d. Nov 2, 1873
Buried in same area as the Babbitt family listed as wife of Sylvester H. Risley. Headstone states aged 22 yrs, 5 mo, 26 dys. 19 years old on 1870 census.

The book also mentions two daughters of Orland named Eloise and Esther have yet to find information about them though.

I am looking for any information on George King Babbitt, born in 1893 in New York (City or State?). He was the son of Eugene Howard Babbitt (1859-1927) and Mary Brigham King (1861-1912)
Eugene Howard Babbitt, Ph.D (Harvard 1895) was a classical linguist who taught at Harvard, MIT, Columbia, Rutgers and Dartmouth, among others.
Eugene was born in Bridgewater, CT to Isaac and Sarah Cole Babbitt. Eugene's wife, Mary King, was a graduate of Vassar College in 1892. (Isaac, Sarah, Eugene and Mary are all noted in the Babbitt Genealogy book) Although a brilliant scholar, Eugene suffered much tragedy in his life and spent his last years alone in a boarding house in Boston, MA, working as a translator of ancient languages. He had lost his wife and two of three children quite early. Most all the family are buried at Center Cemetery, Bridgewater, CT. Any information on his son, George King Babbitt would be appreciated, since he is not found at the cemetery in Bridgewater.

I have an obituary from The Indianapolis News in 1937 for Frank Babbitt. The Obituary was passed down to me from my Grandfather, Charles H. Babbitt of Mooresville, Indiana. Lillian Babbitt was adopted in Clarion County, Pennsylvania in 1890. Her parents were deceased. Her father was a doctor, her mother 'of the people' in Pennsylvania. She had a brother and sister, but Lillian was placed in the Home of the Merciful Saviour for Crippled Children in Philadelphia. Family story is that there was a buggy accident, the parents killed, the other brother and sister taken in by relatives 'in the west.' She had a happy life, I have many photos taken in the early 1900s.

Hi All,

I've been looking for information on how to get my g-great grandmother's death certificate and marriage certificate.

She was born Mary Esther Snow in Iowa (or possibly Illinois) in September 1872 (according to 1900 census).

She married William Andrew Babbitt in Aspen, Colorado, about 1890.

They lived in Denver, Colorado, with the Children: Iva May Babbitt, Alda Babbitt, Vera Babbitt, Ona Rae Babbitt, William Orrin Babbitt, Ada Marguerite Babbitt, and Lena Ellen Babbitt.

She died in Denver, Colorado, about 1918 due to cancer.

William Andrew Babbit left the family in the lurch somewhere between 1910 and 1920. It's not clear if Mary and he divorced, but there was some type of alimony or supportive payments imposed that he did keep up with mostly (according to Ona Rae Babbitt Marsh). He was a gold and silver miner according to several censuses. According to the 1900 Census he was born in Missouri, April 1877.

DEATHS IN KANSAS CITY.

While Mrs. H. L. BABBITT, 1304 East Sixteenth Street, was sleeping
about 4 o'clock Friday morning, she felt one of her infant twin boys, who
were sleeping on her arm, nestle closer to her and at the same time sigh.
She awoke and found Lovell, one of the boys, dead. Yesterday morning,
at about the same time, Lowell, the other boy, died in exactly the same
manner. Both children were unusually healthy for their ages and on the
nights before their deaths, showed no signs of illness. Heart trouble,
resulting from indigestion, was the cause of death.

Mrs. BABBITT was formerly Miss Elizabeth DOLD, a school teacher of
Kansas City, Kas. Mr. BABBITT is a coal and feed dealer at 1610 East
Fourteenth Street. The funeral for the twins will be held at the home at
2 o'clock this afternoon. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Kansas
City, Kas.

BABBITT of 1024 Barnett avenue, and Mrs. George UBELS of 734 Washington avenue, Kansas City, Kansas, were thrown from a buggy yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock on the Seventh street viaduct, Armourdale. The horse driven by them was frightened by a train and dashed across the bridge, but was stopped near a hole by workmen who were repairing the floor. Mrs. UBELS was uninjured, while Mrs. BABBITT sustained a few bruises.

Who was Joel Babbitt who lived in Bethel, Windsor, Vt in 1799 and later? (Maye before?) In searching the property deed grantee index I see the first entry for John Townsend that I am researching was for property purchased by John from a Joel Babbitt, 1799. Then, in 1803 John Townsend and wife Bathsheba (Wills) had a son they name Joel Babbitt - why? What was the connection between Townsend & Babbitt that would make the Townsend name a son after Joel Babbitt? Who is this man?

During King Phillip's war Edward and his family took refuge in the garrison at Taunton,leaving behind their home.
We must depend upon tradition for the account of Edward Bobet's last hours.The tradition has been so faithfully handed down to each generation and seems so fully confirmed by his place of burial,that there is no reason to disbelieve it.
Edward returned to his house to secure some supplies,
accompanied by his dog (hoping to warn off trouble) on his way back to the fort he became aware of his pursuit by indians.Edward climbed a tree and was effectually hidden but his faithful dog disclosed his presence and his life was forfeit of his adventure.His grave is in a private yard near Berkley bridge and is thought to be his place of death.The spot was marked by a bronze memorial tablet in 1911.The old stone
that was removed and put in historical hall reads:Edward Bobbett kld june,1675.
