George W. Babcock

Seeking information of family of George W. Babcock, b. 1854. George was married at least twice, and his daughter Chiquita, presumably by his first wife, is related to our family.

George was farming in Pettis Township, Platte County in 1900. His new wife Cora appears on the census along with his children from his first wife - George D (1879), Doria R (1888), Raymon W (1893) and Chiquita (1897). Family lore says that Chiquita was an American Indian altho the census indicates she is white.

Any information on this family would be appreciated!

Looking for help from someone who might have access to the Stephen Babcock book.
Looking for ancestors/descendants of John Read Babcock b.1788 and brother (?) James b. 1770. Both listed in The History of Stonington CT and, I believe, in the Stephen Babcock book, Vol 6, pg 287 (according to Ancestry).
The Stonington CT book is a little vague on page 217 as to the the parentage of these two and doesn't show their descendants either.
Thanks
Bob Babcock
babcock.dnafamilies.net/index.html

Who was Roy Babcock married in Orange Co., Indiana?

I have records for a double marriage on 2 Mar 1908 in Orange Co., Indiana. The parties were:

Roy Babcock b.ca 1888 to Zora Jackson b.ca 1887 - and -
John Jackson b.1887 to Zora Babcock b.1889 (Elzora)

John and Zora Jackson were siblings according to info on the records so it would seem Elzora and Roy were also siblings but apparently not so. Elzora was dau of Joseph L. & Sarah Babcock but Joseph and Sarah show no son Roy in their household. Sarah says she has 8 of 9 children living but that's the 1900 census and this marriage took place afterwards. All their children are accounted for in other marriages so Roy did not have 3 names.

I have been unable to find any Babcock named Roy in the Indiana area and certainly he could have popped up from some other state but what a coincidence if so. And Roy nor Zora are ever found individually or as a couple after their marriage.

Were there such people?? Did the county clerk make a big recording error confusing info given to him? Does anyone recognize Roy or Zora Babcock or know what happened to them if they existed? I have searched every which way and find no matches or anyone even similar. Thank you.
Babcock Surname DNA Project/Site

The project is moving along well. In the past month, 19 individuals have registered to the database and contributed their trees to our effort. A number of individuals have also submitted DNA samples.
While this is a great start we need more of you to participate, especially those with knowledge of individuals in the late 1700s.
It appears that the Babcock migration pattern was Rhode Island to Connecticut to Northeast NY State in the mid 1700s and then outward from there.
The documentation for this time period is weak. I've recently reviewed the Orange County land records for the 1700s and there are no records of Babcocks owning any land. Yet by the early 1800s they were selling land in the new Rockland County. I would have to guess that because it was not convienent to travel up to Newburgh to record the land transactions, that there was a secondary set of local books, recognized by the locals but never making it to "official" ledgers. (Didn't they realize that we would need this information 250 years later?).
So, if anyone out there can help please visit (babcock.dnafamilies.net/index.html)

Also, you suggestions/recommendations are welcome.

Girl
Dorothy Babcock, 7, 152 Sweeney Street, Struck by Buffalo Motorist as She Was Crossing Bridge – Succumbed Sunday Morning in DeGraff Hospital
Running from one side of the Main street bridge to the other to watch a boat in the barge canal, Dorothy Babcock, 7, of 152 Sweeney street was fatally injured at 9:30 o’clock Saturday night when she was struck by a car driven by Dr. Aaron Wagner, 25, of 289 Colvin avenue, Buffalo.
The child died early Sunday morning in DeGraff Memorial hospital of a possible fracture of the skull and internal injuries.
Accompanied by a playmate, Doris Wilson, 8, of 15 Erie street, the Babcock girl was standing on the east sidewalk of the bridge, watching a boat pass underneath. As she attempted to run across to the other side of the bridge to again watch the boat, she was run down by the auto.
M. E. BABCOCK ~ Radio Station WTAG Cookbook compiled by Julie CHASE late 1950's

I have a cookbook I found while cleaning my parents' basement for Worcester, MA area radio station WTAG. What is nice about this book is that it gives the woman's name and for most entries, an address. Text is printed in a standard font but the names at the ends of the recipes are printed as facsimilies of the woman's signature.

The title of the book is "WTAG's Gossip Bench Cookbook "Swap Session" Recipes" compiled by Julie Chase.

There is a photo of Julie CHASE on the back cover and it is from the style of microphone and her clothes that I guessed the book's vintage to be around the late 1950's. There is no title page with publisher/date info. Julie CHASE appears to have been a blonde haired woman of middle age and is wearing what appears to be a wedding band and is holding glasses.

Cover and designs by Lillian B. LONGSJO

I posted back in June 04 on the Worcester Co, MA board. I'm getting ready to dispose of the book but thought I would try and put all the names from the book on the various surname boards first. I won't be keeping the book much longer, so preferably, I wish to place this book with decendants of the ladies listed. What I will do, since there are so many names, is take out the page with your ancestor and copy the front and back covers to go with it. I will keep the book for a bit past the first of the year but ultimately, because of space limitations, I will have to get rid of it.

From this cookbook: M. E. BABCOCK ~ R.F.D. Webster

If interested, please contact me cause once it's gone, it's gone.

I am transcribing the Evergreen Cemetary in Ontario, Malheur Co., Oregon and thought I would post pictures of the Pre-1900 headstones for those interested in having them. This is a very large cemetary, there is a possibility there could be other family members buried here after this time period. If you are interested in them, I can look for them specifically.

John Babcock changed his name to Bradley

I've been doing a little research on my Babcocks in Maine, and thought I'd share this info on anyone researching John Babcock, son of Calvin Babcock and Sarah Miller. John was born in 1848 in Penobscot County, Maine, and moved to Durham Maine in about 1880. He encouraged my great grandfather, Emery Perley Babcock to move to Durham, and buy the 91 acre farm that he passed on to my grandfather, and work in the Worumbo Mill in Lisbon Falls, Maine. When he married his first wife, he changed his name to Bradley; the story that was passed down from my grandfather is that this was not her maiden name, it was just another name. Also, he married twice. Hope that this helps.

Brenda Munroe

Hello!

I am looking for more information on a Mary (Babcock) Loveless. She was born 1845 in Canada and died Sept. 27, 1895 in Michigan. She married Ephraim Dewitt Loveless in 1867 (Canada). I found her aged mother, "Annie" living with Ephraim on a 1900 census of Huron Co., MI. Annie's parents were both born in Canada as well. Ephraim and Mary immigrated to the US in 1886..parents of eleven children (names available). Annie immigrated in 1895. Any help would be great!...Thanks!

Hi! I'm looking for any information on the parents, siblings, etc.. of Lydia Babcock (my ggg grandmother) b. 1797 in Paris, Oneida County, NY (taken from her obituary, other sources say CT), d. 1879 in Scioto County, OH. I'm working on obtaining death certificates, etc.. but I was hoping to find a lead in the meantime...

Anecdotal evidence suggests that her parents were James Babcock and Sarah Budlong (both b. CT, d. NY). I'm particularly interested in Sarah Budlong because she, and thus her children, are a direct link to Roger Williams, the founder of Rhode Island.

If anyone has any information, please let me know (and I'll be happy to share what I have!).

Thanks!
