My grandfather is Peter Menkel and my grandmother is Louise Menkel. Peter Menkel died before my father was born. I have very little information about my grandfather. I know that he had been marriied two times before he married my grandmother. I purchased Peter Menkel's journals from the chuch. They are on microfilm reels. They are very difficult to read. I have printed several pages but am still in the process of printing the information due to the large volume of pages. Some pages are unreadable. Apparently they have water damage. I am in contact with other family members to see what information they might have in their possession. Let me know if you would like to corrrespond with me. My grandfather is Alexander Menkel (deceased) son of Peter Menkel (husband of Charity - both buried in Gabon, West Africa). Please reply at your convenience.

Mary Babe, daughter of Joseph Babe and Margaret Wilson married twice. First husband, ? Brown. Two daughters: Mary & Amy. Her second husband was Jesse Grizzle of Dallas Co., AR. Two sons. She changed the name to Griswold.

I'm a missionary serving currently in Libreville, Gabon. I'm doing mission research for the Gabonese protestant church, as they have long since lost the details of these missionaries. Louisa's husband, Peter Menkel, served here for many years. His first wife (Charity) and daughter are buried here, in the mission cemetery (I have digital photos of those). I know that he and Charity had at least four children before she died. I know that he married twice after that, and these wives served with him in Gabon. I'm hoping to get some family information to fill in the gaps of what we have. I'm also looking for photos, if available. Peter is mentioned quite a bit in the writings of his missionary colleague, Dr. Robert Hamill Nassau. Are you related to this family and can you help us with this research?

Looking for information on Louise Babe, who was a missionary in West Africa at in the late 1890s and through the early 1900s. She was the third wife of Peter Menkel, who served as a missionary for many years in Gabon and Cameroun. Peter died in 1905.
