Hello Gwen
Just found your message of 2006, & was wondering if you are related to any of the Babiak's from Thorsby Alberta, Canada?
In 1981 my mon & dad & my husband were in the Yukon & Alaska and I met a lady at a museum that reconized myself as a Babiak. But to this day have no idea who she was.
Waiting for your reply
Pat (Babiak) Roth

Babik is in Poland, about 11 miles north of Kolo, in the eastern part of Poznan province. While Poznan was divided between Russian-Poland and Prussia from 1815 until the first World War, Babiak remained on the Russian-Polish side of the divide. Both Germans and Poles lived in this border area, which frequently shifted, however.

I assume that the surname "Babiak" was a reference to the city of origin.

The Babyak / Babiak / Babjak family from Nastasiv, Ukraine

Hello everyone. I am looking for any relatives out there connected to the Babyak and/or Smolyak families that existed in Nastasiv, in Western Ukraine.
My great-grand father`s name was Yakym Babyak, he was born in Nastasiv. He had 5 kids over there: 3 daughters: Xeniya, Melania (my grand-mother)and Eugeniya (she is still alive!), and 2 sons, Vassyl and Bohdan.
I know that someone from the Babyak family emigrated to the US (I think it was US) and that`s why my family was persecuted and Xeniya was sent to Siberia, I think for 7 years. I`m not sure if it was her husband or father who emigrated, but I know that later, when that person has died, she got some portion of his/her heritage from abroad. That time the regime did not allow her to get cash so she got several Volga cars instead. Crazy, but truth.
Anyways, if there is anyone who feels he/she might be related to us, please let me know. I live in the US.
Attached please see the picture of Melania Babyak, my grand-mother.
Thanks,
Mariana

Thankyou for your reply. My grandfather came from Hruszowice and my grandmother came from Chetyniec. From what I figured out, not too far north of Przemysl along the eastern border of Poland. My grandfather was Mychajlo (Mike) Babiak and my grandmother was Katarzyna (Katie) nee Nicznik. My grandfather apparently had a brother named Stefan Babiak which I now nothing about. Please let me know if any of this is related to yourself or your relatives. I am also interested to know what the country side is like there.
Thank-you again for your reply and hope to hear from you soon.
Regards Pat Roth

Dear Lukas;
Thankyou for your reply. I have always wondered what the countryside was like there. I don't know much about my grandparents as they have long since died. I have been told by other relatives that my grandfather did tell them that it would be almost impossible to do any research on past records such as birth and marriage cert. since the country has had a lot of wars in that area and alot of the church records would of been destroyed. That would of been back in approx. 1960 or 1970.
From what I can figure out from a family tree chart drawn up in 1993 for a family reunion, my grandfathers fathers name was Tom & Tom's brothers and sisters would of been Michael, Nicholas, John, Metro Katherine & Domka. Domka was adopted. Their parents (my gg grandparents) where Matthew & Anna Babiak.
Just so you know we live in Alberta Canada. Please let me know if you find anything else out that may help.
Hoping to hear from you soon.
Regards
Pat Roth

Babiak; Jersey City. 1890s to 1900s

Researching the family of Peter Babiak, born late 1860s in the time frame of 1890 into the 1900's. I have reason to believe Peter's wife was my grandfather's sibling. Family resided in the area of Warren and Morris streets. Does anyone have any knowledge regarding the maiden name of Peter's wife.

My Grandfathers name is Stanislaw Babiak, his father died when he was six, so my father, stan's son, doesn't really remember what his grandfathers name was. My father is 45 and i'm 21, so it's more likely that you two might share similar grandparents, as he said that his father was from the area which you mentioned. My grandfather died earlier this year however, my grandmother is still alive and my father will give her a call to find out who my great-grandfather was and if he had any brothers named Stefan, but it sees very possible as Babiak is an uncommon name is Poland. In reference to your question about the countryside, it's very flat with some low hills, you don't see mountains until you go south towards the slovakian border, all the towns are relatively small with larger cities dotted throughout. Przemysl is a town which recently celebrated it's 1000 year anniversary and the buliding where I was born in the old-town center dates back to the late 1700's to 1800's, recently designated for maintenance which, is funded by the European Union Fund for Historical Preservation, my grandmother still lives there and she frequently takes house guests, so if you're interested i'm sure we can arrange something. Hope to hear from you soon,
Lukas
