I'm not sure about the original origin but so far I've found that it is considered an Acadian name. Thats the Nova Scotia area of New England and Canada. I have been told that Babienau is actually a name created in Acadia no proof just rumor for family that originated from French Daughters married to the native indians Micmacs. The website www.acadian.com has info for sale with the babineau name and a crest as well.
