Hello,

My name is Hannah Jones (in California, daughter of Paulfred Jones). We are researching the same family lineage, (Alexandre, Babineaux, Jean, Jim, Jones, John) as several years ago you sent my Aunt Gloria (Jones/Marcellous) and my Uncle Francis (Jones) a copy of your family tree. I ran across your email on Ancestry.com, and thought that I would write to find out if you have uncovered any information on Charles Babineaux and Marquerite Jim.

I haven't found any information on them. Any info you have to share would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Hannah Jones

This is a copy of my 2003 post to the Babineaux board: I am searching for information on my maternal grandfather, Raymond Charles Brown, his brothers John E. & Clemont Brown, his mother, Fannie Frances Babineaux Brown, and his father Charles P. Brown or Walter Brown. I have a SSN document listing Raymond's father as Charles P. Brown, and a death cert. listing his father as Walter Brown. All other information and mothers are exact.

My grandfather's death certificate lists the following:
date of birth - 3/28/1905 in New Iberia, LA
date of death - 7/23/1979 in Lake Charles, LA
mother - Fannie Frances Babino (Babineaux/Babineau)
father - Walter Brown

I found Fannie and family in the 1920 and 1930 Lake Charles, LA census records listing Fannie as 'head', mulatto, and a widow, with sons Raymond, John, and Clemont Brown, but have not been able to find any further information - nor death or marriage records for Fannie or "husbands" Walter or Charles P. Brown.

If you have information or can help me to solve this mystery, please contact me. Thank You - Michelle

Hi Karen, sorry to take so long to reply, I thought you would email my Yahoo account. Any way, I'm pretty sure that you are a relative. I have a photo of our french ancestor (3 Greats) that married my Fathers great-grandmother -- Agatha Babineaux. I know his name was Telisphor/Telesfor Babineaux. He was an overseer, so he may have taken the Babineaux name. But, the story I learned was that he was one of the decendents of 8 or 9 brothers from Nova Scotia (the British through the French out of Nova Scotia after the war of 1812) and many of these Frenchmen came south into the LA Territory. My father is deceased (2003), but he has some cousins living that met and know about Teles and Agatha Babineaux. I will try to have a photo scanned to send you. But it may be faster if you email me your address, I can make some color copies of my family and Agatha and Teles.

Take care,
Karen

Beaumont Article on Agatha Richard Babineaux

Hello cousins,
I have been seeing this mention of an article on Agatha Babineaux and she is linked to my family tree. If you could send me information on how I could receive a copy of this article, I would greatly appreciate it. Here is my family connection below:
Theodor Babineaux was married to Agatha and maybe lived in the New Iberia, LA area in the late 1800's. My family-history stories of Theodor and Agatha were of the Theodor was a white man and Agatha was a slave girl born in Africa. Theodor Babineaux and Agatha had 9 or more Children together, I only knew of the following:
Edmund (b: 18??)
Louis Adam (b: 1880)
Rogers (b: 1882)
Willie Michael (b: 1889)
Paul Benedict "Benny" (b: 1887) My Grandfather
Joseph Simon (b: 1894)
Albert (b: 1886)
Mary Eva Bernadette (b: 1885)
Marie Anne (b: 1896)
Benny Babineaux later had a daughter with Alice Green in 1927, she was named Audrey Agnes Babineaux born in New Iberia, LA. My mother's memories of Benny Babineaux was of a smooth dark-skinned man with black wavy hair, very tall.
She visited Agathe and all of the very tall uncles she had, all my mother can remember is that all of her uncles were big and tall men and that there was a lot of them... ;-) If I could get a copy of the article on Agathe that will give me something more on our family history. Please give me information on how to get the article, I am in Chicago Illinois and don't think I will be in Texas anytime this year.
Thanks for any help you can give. You can e-mail me at ymahone43@earthlink.net

Thank you for responding to my querry. I do research for the Tolsby family and Paula is a descendant of Anders / Johanne who came to the US in the mid 1800's from Norway. I'd like to confirm birthdates and your wedding date and add the city / state where Paula was married.

Paulais the daugther of Deborah Petty, granddaughter of DeLois Tolsby, great-granddaughter of Alan Tolsby, great-great granddaughter of Anton Tolsby, and great-great-great granddaughter of Anders. We do have a family site filled with stories and photos and would like to invite Tolsby descendants to participate at myfamily.com. I would send passwords if you're interested.

I'm always looking for photos of the Tolsby family, and it's been difficult to find those of Alan (Anton's son) and his descendants. Evidentally he left ND because it was too cold (can't blame him for that!) and moved to Texas. All of Anton's children (except one, Clarence, who died in his 20's) left ND for the West coast or Texas.

I will look forward to hearing from you! Cheryl

The first time you check in, the site will ask you a few questions....options, really, that require about a minute or less to answer. There's a family tree to look at besides photos, history, and everyday news. We hope you enjoy it!

Linda,
My grandfather was (Ggnace) Dalton Babineaux. I have his original Certificate of Baptism from St. Peter's Church in Carencro. He was born on Feb.7, 1903. Father: Theophe Babineaux; mother: Azema Royer. There is another Dalton Babineaux whose parents were Roger and Orella - ancestor of Linda Babineaux.

My last name is MacDanel because my grandmother, Inez(Laurants) ignorantly changed my father's name to her second husband's name. I should be Babineaux. I have more information. Contact me at solarmark@msn.com

Please go to the Library and in the
Genealogy Department ask someone for the
books by Father Donald Hebert. His books
are records of the Roman Catholic Church.
Pay close attention to Volume 33 for it
lists the Blacks and Slaves. If your
family was granted sacremental rights in
the Roman Catholic Church they were recorded.

I'm elated to know you identify yourself as
a Creole. While some people take issue
with the definition, we define ourselves.
It is not a race, its an ethnicity and people
often do not want to call themselves Creole
because of its association with Africans
(Slave or Free). But it's a combiniation of
either African, Native American,
Spanish, Portugese, or French. Born in
the New World.

Would you like to know more about your
Louisian Creoles? There's no one like us
in the World. . . . GUMBO, CUSH-CUSH,
Boudin, Cracklin, Debris-Sauce Piquante,
jambalaya, red beans and rice these Creole
delicies can also be found in Africa and
the Carribean and not in Canada or france.

Phil

HI PHYLLIS, AGAIN THANKS FOR REPLYING. I WILL CHECK IT OUT AT THE LIBRARY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. DO YOU THINK MY PEOPLE COME FROM THE SLAVES? THE REASON WHY I ASK IS MY GRANDFATHER IS BLACK AND INDIAN, AND MY GRANDMOTHER IS FRENCH AND INDIAN. I'M REALLY WANT TO KNOW WHAT MY GGRANDMOTHER (MOMMA MARGUERITE) IS MADE UP OF AND HOW MY GRANDFATHER IS BLACK AND INDIAN. I KNOW MY GGRANDMOTHER (MOMMA ROSA)WAS FRENCH AND I GUESS HER HUSBAND MUST BE THE INDIAN. ON MY GRANDMOTHER'S AND SISTER'S BIRTH CERTIFICATES IT READS THAT THEY ARE WHITE. HOWEVER, MY GRANDMOTHER HAS A LITTLE SHADE OF COLOR IN HER (SHE'S THE ONLY ONE). SHE HAVE A BROTHER THAT LOOKS LIKE CLARK GABLE. NEVERTHELESS, MY MOTHER COMES FROM THE SLAVES PLANTATION. SHE DOESN'T HAVE MUCH MIX IN HER. I HEAR THEY HAVE A LITTLE INDIAN, BUT I'M NOT SURE. MY FATHER IS CREOLE AND SHE'S AFRO AMERICAN, SO WHAT DOES THAT MAKE ME?

THANKS AND WRITE BACK SOON, LARONDA

Re: Theodor Babineaux - New Iberia, Louisiana 1860

My mother's father is Lawrence Richard, son of Alphonse Richard, son of Joseph Richard. My grandmother, Evelina Darjean/Dargin is related to the Babineaux's by marriage. One of my great grandfather's (Louis Darjean) sisters married a Babineaux. My mother recalls Telisphore and Edmund Babineaux as her cousins. Since reading Agatha Richard Bobino's slave narrative, I realized her brother is named as Joe Richard. I question whether my great great grandfather could possibly be the brother of Agatha Bobino, since they are all from the area of or surrounding area of Grand Coteau.

Joseph Richard (Joe "Shoot" Richard) is said to have married Julianne Thibodeaux, most of their children were born in Churchpoint. Does anyone know anything about Agatha Richard Bobino's brothers and sisters, specifically Joe.

Okay, there seems to be a connection as my father-in-laws name is Dore. But what I do not understand is that you speak of a Pierre Babineaux and Alyce Romero Babineaux and this was your grandfathers parents but then in the last e-mail you say Pierre and Marie were your great grandparents. I hope there is a connection but could you please claify??? You say in one e-mail they, Pierre and Alyce, had ten children and then in another e-mail you say Pierre and Marie had twelve children. I must be missing something. Please respond as I'm sure I'am not understanding.

Questions - Adonia Babineaux b.1882

Thank you! It's easy to get confused over all the ancestors especially using message boards. So, is Adonia (1882-unknown) the one I'm looking for? Did she marry Eugene Dore? If so do you have any other information to share?
