Two John Babingtons fought for Richard III at Bosworth in 1485 AFAIK

John Babington (1425-1501) was based at Chilwell and was the son of Sir William Babington, Lord Chief Justice of the Common Pleas and Sherriff of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.

Sir John Babington of Dethick (1423-1485) was Sir William's cousin and died at Bosworth. I know that the families round here were traditionally part of Hastings Retinue but the two Babingtons plus Sir John Sacheverell (who was based down the road from me) are listed as fighting for King Richard at Bosworth

From "Bosworth Field"
"Sir Thomas North with royaltye,
& alsoe Sir John of Babington,
Sir Humphrey Stafford sware certainelye
that King Richard shold keepe his crowne"

After Stoke it would appear that the now Sir John of Chilwell had greater personal importance - he was asked to ascertain how many archers Nottingham could provide and to see to muster of the same for a military expedition to Brittany (Patent Rolls 1488)

I'm rsearching the Chilwell Babingtons as my group portrays them in events. Any info gratfully received!
