Elinor Bachelor - Edwin Proctor Gilson

Looking for any further info on this family. Did the daughters ever marry? Would like death dates if possible. Thanks in advance,
Judy

1.	Edwin Proctor Gilson-1[1, 2, 3]. Baptism on Nov 01, 1812 in Putney, Windham, Vermont, USA. He was born Abt. Nov 01, 1812 in Putney, Windham, Vermont, USA [4]. Census 1860 in Chester, Windsor, Vermont, USA. Residence 1860 in Chester, Windsor, Vermont, USA [5, 6]. He died Aft. 1880. Reference ID was 4245.

Notes for Edwin Proctor Gilson: General Notes:

Death date was recorded as March 29, 1844. I must first assue that it was error placed in the data base. If that were the case, then the children wouldn't have existed and he wouldn't have been listed in the subsequent censuses. I have to assume the death date was supposed to be the marriage date.

Elinor Bachelor. She was born 1819 in Vermont, USA[7, 8, 9]. Census 1870 in Chester, Windsor, Vermont, USA. She died Aft. 1870. Residence 1880 in Chester, Windsor, Vermont, USA [10]. She was also known as Eleanor P. Bachelor.
Bachelors of Hamilton & Butler Counties in Ohio

I am researching a family called Skillman who intermarried on several occasions with the Bachelor family. The two families lived in Hamilton and Butler Counties in Ohio. A William Bachelor married Louisa Jane Skillman in 1848. They had one daughter, that I am aware of, named Rose. After Louisa died, William married her sister Anna Catherine. Anna Catherine Skillman had married Boulton Harrison Parsons in 1838. They had one daughter named Drucilla Rose Parsons (she eventually married William Llewellyn). Mr. Parsons apparently died very early on (information about him is very scarce). Anna Catherine Skillman Parsons Bachelor died about 1892 according to my information. I'd like to confirm that. Is anyone familiar with these families?

Hey Paula,
I'm Melissa Bachelor from Fort Payne, Alabama. While researching my family tree I came across your post. My great-grand father was Andrew Jackson Bachelor or A.J. Bachelor as my great aunt called him from Georgia. The dates are similar and I wonder if it could be Sarah's brother. He was married to my great-grandmother Mattie, who was born in 1872. I don't know her maiden name, but their first child was born September 24, 1890, named Alice Ophelia Bachelor. If any of this can help, or if you have any information that could help me please feel free to e-mail mwe at mbachelor0703@nacc.edu. Good Luck with your search.
Do you happen to have any information on Consider and Susannah's daughter Abigail. I beleive she married Samuel Batcheler (aslo seen as Batcheller) who was born in Rhode Island in 1795 and died in Oceola, Michigan in 1881. I am trying to make a connection with one of Samuel and Abigail Batcheler's sons on a Oceola, Michigan census record and if I am correct I would love any information you would be willing to share about Consider and Susannah Bachelor. Thanks.

I've been doing quite a bit of research on this family and would love to swap information.
I have a photo of Joseph and his family that was taken about 1900 to celebrate the new century, and sent to his sister Jane in England. The photo is here http://www.okusgoldens.com/bachelors.htm

Jane was my grandmother's mother. Her married name was Stather, and my Grandmother's married name was Martha Kellington.

Jane and Joseph's parents were also called Joseph and Jane, and there were 2 other surviving girls Ann and Fanny.
Joseph senior lived to be 83. He was born on 25 August 1799 in Marsh Chapel in Lincolnshire and after he and Jane (Blow) married they lived in a tiny village called Little Grimsby, not far from Louth, also in Lincolnshire. Apart from the manor house and the church there was one farm and about 10 cottages in total in the village. Joseph senior was Church Warden and worked on the farm.
Jane senior died when Joseph junior was only 4.
Joseph junior met and married Louisa Bond after he emmigrated to Canada They appear to have had quite a large family, there are 13 children in the photograph.

If I can tell you any more please ask.

Carol

I am researching the family of JOHN BACHELOR (b. 1842 Nuneaton, Warwickshire, England) who married ELIZABETH LYDIA PRITCHARD (b. 1841 Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, England), in 1861 at Mansfield.
Looking for information about Bachelor's in Virginia around 1750

I've reached a brick wall in my Lawson family research so I'm trying to pursue another angle. The last documented Lawson we have is Richard Bachelor Kelsick Lawson born in 1793. I'm reasonable certain that his parents were a Richard Lawson and an Isabel Kelsick married in 1792 in Richmond Co. Virginia. Since I can uncover no information about Richard Lawson and having solid data on the Kelsick connection showing no instances of "Bachelor" I'm hoping this is a family name carried down through marriage to this Richard Lawson. Ideally, it was his mothers maiden name or something of that sort. So I'm hoping to back into Richards identity by getting some data on the Bachelor families of Virginia around 1750-70 or so. Please email me any information you think might be of interest.

Thanks so much!

Anyone know anything about an Emily Bachelor, married N.B. Smith (shown on record as N.S.B. Smith) Oct. 19, 1879 in Sebastion county Arkansas. The only thing I know about her is she passed away before 1885, possibly in childbirth story is there was a child and they both died but don't know when or how or her parents names. Or would anyone be able to get the actual marriage license for them or application for marriage? any help is deeply appreciated.

Thank you for your message. From what I have been able to find out, Rev. Origen Bachelor was born ion 6 Nov 1799 or 1800 in Sutton, MA and married Charlotte Wight Thompson. Jonas Batcheller and Prusha Hayward were Rev. Bachelor's parents. Note the change in spelling of the name Bachelor. Please tell me what you know; I would be very happy to receive it. Are you related to Origen Bachelor? He was my great-great grandfather, on my father's side.

I have a Samuel Jones (brother of my g-grandmother) who married a Jane Bachelor in Wales abt. 1876. Her parents were Henry & Maria Bachelor. Samuel & Jane had several children in the UK, and immigrated to Pittsburgh, PA in 1885 where they had several more children. They had a total of 11 children - 9 listed as living in the 1900 US census. I'm interested in locating descendents of those children.

Janet English
Pittsburgh, PA

Re: Bachelor of GA

I show a Mary Etta Roberts who was married to Hansford Duncan Welch in GA. Their daughter, Anna Elizabeth Welch, b. June 25, 1867, Eatonton, Putnam Co., GA, d. January 20, 1939, Telfair Co., GA; m. December 15, 1882, Eatonton, Putnam Co., GA, Berry Weaver Batchelor, b. March 4, 1860, Eatonton, Putnam Co., GA, d. August 29, 1937, Telfair Co., GA. Both are bur. Bethlehem Cemetery.

It is possible that Mary Etta also went to Telfair Co., GA, and may possibly have married/2 a Batchelor. Some that were in Telfair County were William Henry, Walter Ray, Brady B., James Paschal, Dudley Hugh, Luther Edward, and Hillman Edward.

The closest I can come to your name Lite--pronounced sit--would be Elisha "Lish" Batchelor who married a Jacky Mann on December 12, 1833, in Greene Co., AL, and m/2 an Elizabeth(?) somewhere in AL about 1838. The children by the second marriage were Caroline, William Samuel, Nancy, Elizabeth and Rachel.

Hope some of these names might ring a bell.

Ray Bachlor - bachlor@cox.net

Re: Amanda Bachelor, Alabama

Here is what my records show about Amanda E. Batchelor/Bachelor:

Amanda E. Batchelor, b. about 1838, AL, married James Smith, b. about 1835, d. about 1875, Talladega District, Talladega Co., AL.

Amanda was still living in Talladega Co., AL, at the time of the 1880 census.

Her parents were William Henry Batchelor, Jr., b. c1810, Franklin Co., NC, d. June 25, 1872, Ranburne, Cleburne Co., AL and Elizabeth Baggett, b. c1812, NC, d. c1838, AL.

William Henry Batchelor, Sr., b. 1787, Franklin Co., NC, d. September 1869, Carroll Co., GA; m. 1809, Franklin Co., NC, Martha "Patsy" Gay, b. c1790, d. c1815, Franklin Co., NC.

William Henry, Sr. was the brother of my ggg grandfather, John Batchelor. The Army changed John's last name to Bachelor during the War of 1812 and he raised a family whose name was spelled that way (my lineage). His second wife had his name changed back to Batchelor to dis-inherit the children of the first family. My great grandfather discarded the "e" when he moved to Oklahoma Territory in 1896.

This family is traced back to our original immigrant, William Bachelor, who came to VA in 1648, in the book "The Batchelor Family", 1991, Lyle K. Williams. If you wish to purchase a copy, contact me at bachlor@cox.net and I can give you the address of the publisher.

Bachelor/Batchelor from Lincolnshire UK to Canada and WA

My great grandmother's brother Joseph Batchelor/Bachelor emigrated from Lincolnshire England to Ontario Canada around 1870 where he married Louisa Bond. They raised a huge family in Manitoba.
I have a photograph of them, with their 13 children, taken around 1900 and sent to my great grandmother.
The children were:-
William John
Lottie
Annie
Nellie
Joseph
Gertie
Walter
Louis
Gordon
Hazel
Archie
May
Douglas
I know at William John moved via North Dakota to Renton WA where he also raised a family, but I lose them after that and have no descendants for the others. Lottie at least was married - she is wearing a ring in the photo, but I have no details.
If any one is related and would like a copy of the photo I would be happy to forward it, or if anyone can fill in more details I would love to know more about them. i can provide a full tree for descendants from Joseph (senior's) Sister Jane in the UK.

In due course of time the Bachelor family removed from this locality and the father of the girl has been unable to get in touch with them or learn the whereabouts of his daughter, whom he left here twelve years ago.
Mr. Burke stated that he had heard the child had been given by the Bachelor family to someone else to care for, but was unable to get any definite information as to this. A careful inquiry by the father among the old residents of the community failed to bring any additional light on the matter of the lost daughter and Mr. Burke was compelled to leave the city without having obtained the much sought-after information.
Before coming to this city, Mr. Burke was a resident of Pacific for a number of years and for the past few years has made his home at Marshalltown, Iowa, where he is engaged in railroad work.
Anyone who might know of the whereabouts of the daughter will earn the everlasting gratitude of the father by communicating with him.

Hi, I have question about parents of this Ebenezer BACHELOR. Some have said Ebenezer's parents were Benjamin BATCHELLER (b. 30 Jun 1749) who married Anne BURNAP (1752-1813). However, I have seen conflicting claims. I would appreciate learning about information you have for parents of Ebenezer BACHELOR. Thanks.
