The Bacik/Basciks were a big family in Davidov! I haven't traced my Bacik link back far enough to tell if we're related yet, but its a good bet we're connected in some way though it might be a ways back. Do you have any leads on his parents? A good place to start is the Synagogue books available on FamilySearch.org: https://www.familysearch.org/search/image/index#uri=https%3A.... Look under Greek Catholic and Davidov. These records aren't in English, but they're not too hard to figure out once you get used to the format. George would be spelled something like "Gjorygy". I took a quick look and didn't see a George baptized in 1883, but there was a George Bascik baptized in Davidov April 26 1884 to Mihaly(Nichael) Bascik and Maria Zdibko.

Edit: There was also a George born Oct 29, 1882 to Janos Bascik and Anna Kondisko. That George is related to my family.

I am doing research on my grandfather "George Bachik" (sp.?) He also indicated he was born in Davido (Davidov) in 1883 and came to the U.S. in 1898 via New York from Rodderdam. Do you see any connections, or have any leads? I can't find anything before 1905. Any ideas of the ship the arrived on? Pat Richard

I'm an ancestry member, but only for Canadian records at the moment. My Fejkos came over later than yours - my great-grandfather Michal Fejko(1891-1953) came to Canada in 1928, and my grandfather John Fejko(1919-2005) came later after the war. Michal's father was Jan Fejko b.1866 and Jan's father was Andej Fejko b.1840. They were all from Davidov from as far back as my grandfather could remember.

my great grandfather John Fejko born abt 1882 shows up on a 1910 US Census. Shows immigration date of 1899. I heard from other family members that he passed away in a nursing home in Ohio but have not yet confirmed that. My family has come from Davidov, that much I do know. My grandmother, Marie was born in Barton, Ohio but unfortunately the court house that housed the records burnt down many years ago. This makes it difficult to trace documents from Ohio. There are many Fejko's and Bachiks in the eastern part of the US - New Jersey, Pennsylvania. I have not yet researched that part of my family. It seems Hungarian/Slovak records take time to get and the names are very common. I do not have exact birth dates for the great grandparents so that makes it harder. Are you a member on Ancestry.com?

When did your Fejkos & Baciks immigrate over? What part of the US did they go to? There is definitely a huge Fejko clan in Davidov, uncluding the current Mayor. My parents met a lot of them when they went there a couple years ago. I am especially interested in tracing the Fejkos, as we tested our Fejko DNA recently through my uncle and it doesn't match ANYONE and is a rare haplogroup (R2) for the area.

Marianne,

Hi. Davidov is in Zemplen County. Zemplén was one of the oldest counties of the Kingdom of Hungary. In the aftermath of World War I, the northern part of Zemplén county became part of newly formed Czechoslovakia, as recognized by the concerned states in the 1920 Treaty of Trianon. The southern half (including the bigger part of the divided Sátoraljaújhely) stayed in Hungary as the county Zemplén. Following the provisions of the controversial First Vienna Award, an additional part came under Hungarian control in November 1938. The Trianon borders were restored after World War II.

I also am researching relatives that were born in Davidov. My family also contains Fejko/Feyko and Bacsik/Bachik. Names were modified when people immigrated to the United States based on how they sounded. I have not yet researched information in Hungary/Czechoslovakia but do have information on family immigrated to the US.

My g-g-grandmother's name was Kristina Bacik, born in Tura Luka, Austria-Hungary (now Slovakia). She married Jan Kubecka. Their daughter, Kristina Kubecka, emigrated to the US in 1904. Any connections to Bacik or Kubecka history would be most welcome.
